An excellent option for Xbox one

I specifically bought this for my Xbox one so I can't comment on PC or Mac connectivity. It likely works fine on both, but I got it when on a short term sale just for the Xbox. On Xbox one you simply plug it in and the Xbox immediately recognized it and asked if I wanted to format it to store games on. It was up and running shortly and so far, has worked like a charm. I can't notice any speed difference playing games off this external vs the internal drive which is fine by me. I just needed the space since the Xbox one doesn't necessarily have a user replaceable hard drive. So there you go, for Xbox one you get massive space for your games and the performance for me at least is the same as the internal drive, if you can find this on sale, I highly recommend it.

I purchased this to add to my set of rotating backup drives I use to back up my home server. My current set of 3 & 4 Tb drives are getting full so I needed a new drive to add to the set to extend the rotation period of each drive. The drive is easy to use and quiet which is a must for me. USB 3.0 also helps decrease my current backup time by about 30-35%. The bottleneck now appears to be the ability of my home server to push data down to the system the drive is attached to. I have only used it for a short time. I disconnect the backup drive and store it in a safe in between backup sessions so that means it is not in constant use like most external drives. During the ~2 days I had it out and in use I noticed no problems or any thing exemplary about it. I expect this Seagate to last as long as the 4 others I use in my backup set and that is a long time indeed. I plan to purchase more the next time I need a new drive or I decide its time to finally replace some of my much older drives. Until I use it a lot more I cannot say if it is an outstanding drive or simply a very good one. For that reason I will not give it 5 stars. (You have to earn a top score in my book, I never give it without some evidence or experience to back it up.)

I bought this for my Xbox one and I am so glad I did. I have about 40 games for the system and before I got this I had to delete a game to add a game. This thing makes that idea obsolete. It holds a ton of games not sure of how many but I would guess easily into the 100s. I got this on sale for a little over 100 dollars and it was a no brainer for me. The company that makes it is great I have not had any problems out of any of their products in the past. It is the same brand as I build my PC's with. If you can get this at a decent deal and need space it is a nice one to get. The size of it is decently small I didn't measure it maybe in the description but easily sits next to my Xbox one on the stand I have it on.

I bought 3 of these hard drives and didn't have any trouble connecting them via the USB 3.0 connection. They are very fast. I transferred a little more than 2 TB to them and was amazed how quick they were done. These new drives will hold my video and my old 3TB drives will hold my photos. This is a way better solution that cloud based storage. Its faster and in the end a lot cheaper. If you want the ability to access your data anywhere, that option is available from Seagate in a different drive and doesn't have a monthly charges.

Simple But Slow In USB 2.0

The Seagate Expansion 5 TB external drive is not as physically large as the other external drives I have. There are vent holes on the back and the bottom of the case for passive cooling. Two items are included, a power supply and a USB 3.0 cable. After 3 hours of constant USB 2.0 data transfer the Seagate Expansion 5 TB external drive was only slightly warm to the touch so apparently there will not be an overheating concern. Easy hookup since all you do is plug it in and it is ready for drop and drag movement of files. I am currently copying 1.7 TB of video files where each file is 1 to 3 TB in size and using a USB 2.0 connections between the drives. The speed is slower than usual with transfer rates of 13.8 to 16.4 MB/s and the transfer of 1.7 TB of videos is estimated to take over 22 hours. That is much slower than I am use to for USB 2.0 but for me it is a backup hard drive only and not a computing hard drive. I would not recommend this as a fast access data drive when connected via USB 2.0. A USB 3.0 connection should make a huge difference for the transfer speed of the Seagate Expansion 5 TB drive but will also increase the heat output of the drive. If using USB 3.0 for large continuous data transfers I suggest monitoring the heat of the Seagate Expansion 5 TB drive until you are satisfied it will not overheat during several hours of continuous data movement. My plans for the Seagate Expansion 5 TB drive is to serve as backup for my three of my older 2 TB drives.

This hard drive is great if you ran out of space on your Xbox One. It can hold hundreds of games and its easy to install, just plug it in [it takes a minute to read] and a screen will show up for you to format it. It is good if you want to maximize your xbox one storage. You can also use it for pc but after you format it on xbox one you wont be able to use it on pc afterword.

I bought this for my Xbox One and it's been exactly what I needed. Tons of space and since it has it's own power source, it doesn't slow anything down. The other great thing about it is the size. It's slightly taller than the Xbox, but small enough to not be noticed while positioned next to it.

High value way to get 5TB Seagate HDDs

I've purchased 7-8 of them to populate NAS systems. The drive inside is a standard Seagate 5TB desktop drive. Not the highest quality for NAS use, but I keep a spare around in case one fails. To my pleasant surprise, been running most of them over 1-2 years with no failures yet unlike some of my more expensive stand-alone 5TB HDDs from other vendors. They do not run hot and are reasonably quiet.

The amount of storage is insane, but I will end up using it all. I purchased for the capabilities of keeping a backup offsite, bringing my total to 13tb of combined storage space, and this became my main external I use now. Seriously, huge and fast. Best bang for your buck.

Love this drive! Lifesaver when I upgraded my system. Backed up my old drive and never looked back. NOTE: on a Windows system, it's best if you run Win 8.1 or Win 10 (Win 7 might be ok). You need an OS that can address more than 2TB). I use it as a network drive hooked up to my router. Media systems hooked up to your network can stream video and everyone on the network can back-up to it. And if you set up a VPN, you can access the drive anywhere you have an internet connection (NOT just in your house).

Great External Hard Drive for Xbox One

I bought this item about a year ago around Black Friday & Cyber Monday when it was on sale. I've been using it since it arrived in the mail to store the games that I bought after the hard drive. I have 86 games stored on the hard drive with DLCs and updates. However, hard drive storage space is 4.5 TB (0.5TB used for functionality), and USB 3.0 connection gives me no noticeable lag speed. I used up 90% of 500 GB Xbox One storage before I had this hard drive. Now, I only used about 10% total data (I didn't transfer any data I and use both the internal and external hard drive) with the external hard drive for my current new games and expansions. I would recommend this external device for anyone who receives monthly games with Xbox Live "Games with Gold", Xbox 360 games, and buys games on side. This device ended any future dilemmas I had with installing and uninstalling games that to make room for more games. I haven't tried the device on my PC since it has ample storage built in, but I might later in the future when Steam Games and Mods take up too much space. With this external hard drive, I have no concern about size games I install or download.

I'm using this as a Time Machine backup drive on my iMac running Yosemite. For a Mac all you need do is reformat it with the Mac Disk Utility. The drive is quiet and fast and so far rock solid. My only quibble is I wish that they had installed an indicator on the front of the drive.

I have had this item since Sony updated the PS4 allowing the console to extend its storage. I have had 2 issues with it but it's because of the PS4 during rest mode. Make sure to disable the extended storage before you shutdown the console. I have it as a routine to do that and not leave the PS4 in rest mode.

I bought the 5tb harddrive for my xbox one. It's really easy to setup. Took me less then 15 min. The price is really good actually, even without the sale price. (I got mine for $130 because of a sale that was going on) Every single external harddrive I've ever found with 4tb or more normally sells for $240 making this harddrive a must-buy if you want to save money. PLUS it's from a good company.
