These headphones sound exceptionally well. I am always on the quest to find a product that are both durable and have sound quality that is literally music to my ears. These have a stainless-steel headband, with a stitched leather cushion at the top, as well as leather wrapped cushioned earpads for ultimate comfort. When I first received the Sennheiser HD1s, I paired them to my Galaxy S8 and listened to a variety of music, Miles Davis to orchestral soundtracks to Tupac albums. I was incredibly impressed by the clarity and detail of Sennheiser HD1s when listening to music, especially over a Bluetooth connection. These headphones support a technology called aptX, which results in better sound quality over Bluetooth, in products that support it, including my S8. For more info on aptX, please use your favorite search engine to find the technical details behind it. I have also used these headphones with Bluetooth connected to my desktop computer for gaming, connected to my Nvidia Shield for watching streaming content (using an A2P2 profile) and too one of my Sony 4K televisions (also using an A2P2 profile). I have found that the best sound quality over Bluetooth for the discerning audio listener was through my Galaxy S8. This was seconded by using the supplied “earphone cable” which allows you to connect these via a “wired connection”. They do not recommend trying to watch video with Bluetooth for the audio as the audio may not be completely in sync with what you are watching. I found this to be the case with my Nvidia Shield. Even though the Shield has a setting for A/V sync, I found speech and sound to be slightly off from whatever I was watching, noticeable enough to me, but perhaps not to everybody. Did I forget to mention that these also have Active Noise Cancelling capabilities? They do in fact, and it works either in wireless of wired mode. The noise cancelling works incredibly well, using a proprietary method called Noisegard. This is accomplished by using 4 external microphones to reduce most of the noise around you. While other products with ANC set out to completely isolate external noise such as products by Bose and Sony, the Sennheiser HD1s do not do this. I do not find this detract from this feature. I still need to hear some of the environment around me. Sennheiser finds a great compromise between Active Noise Cancelling and still being able to hear around you just enough to be safe and avoid acting as if you are wearing earplugs with audio passing through them. The battery claims to have a 22-hour life between charges with Bluetooth and Active Noise Cancelling on. I have not tested them in this way to confirm this. They are also capable of being paired to multiple Bluetooth devices, up to 8 I believe. This can be a bit frustrating if these multiple devices are all in the same place, i.e. using them with my computer while having my phone nearby. It tends to cut off the audio from my PC to play a notification sound from my phone, then after several seconds, it reverts to audio from my PC. Sennheiser prides itself on offering “Reference” quality sound for Headphones in this price range. The intent is to provide sound as close as possible to how it was originally recorded. While the Sennheiser HD1s do not tend to “brighten” any particular frequency range, they reproduce them exceptionally well. If you are looking for headphones that will rattle your teeth with overwhelming bass, or only sound well with certain types of music, the Sennheiser HD1s are not for you. If you are looking for headphones that sound exceptionally clean, natural, sturdy, and well made, then you these should be at the top of your list. In this case, you do get what you pay for

I love the fit of these HD1's, however, the sound quality isn't as impressive as I had anticipated. I honestly like the fit and sound quality on the Bose Q35 II's. Also, I can't seem to connect Bluetooth to my Lenovo Yoga, fine connection to Samsung Note 8.

Hold on a sec, please... ...ok, sorry about that, but I had to go burn all of my other headphones. Where do I begin? Packaging? Build Quality? Design? Insane bass response? Crystal clear highs? Comfort? Noise cancellation? I could on and on (and I will..) When I ordered these Sennheiser HD-1 Noise Canceling headphones, I told my daughter about them. Ignoring all of the potential benefits of a high quality set of headphones, her first question was, "Why do they cost so much?" I admit, the price point made me feel like I was reliving the Ice Water Challenge. However, out of the box, the Sennheiser HD-1 headphones offer amenities that can't be ignored: The headphones are housed in a very solid, hard canvas case for storage when they aren't in use (given the extent of your investment, it would make sense to take particularly good care of them). Within the hard case, they're encased in a satiny drawstring bag. They are foldable for easy storage. The headphones paired in seconds, which is great because I couldn't wait to try them out! They also use NFC Connectivity. While they are wireless, they come with a cable you can use when your battery dies. After the first bar of music, I understood why these headphones were so expensive. The sound quality is...Amazing! The richness and tone is unlike anything I've ever heard before, and trust me, headphones are my thing, I own dozens of them. As usual, I took them through a range of music. I began with classical, which any decent set of phones should handle effortlessly. I then moved on to jazz, pop, classic rock and R&B. Same level of unparalleled excellence. My litmus test with headphones ( or speaker systems) is heavy, deep bass response. I test for distortion. So I played that deep bottom, hip-hop bass that south Florida is famous for, and try as I may, I found no amount of bass that these headphones could not handle. There was absolutely NO distortion. When you listen to the music that you've owned for years, you will hear instruments/vocals that you hadn't noticed before. I own several sets of noise canceling headphones, and they're all adept at drowning out the steady drone of airplanes, machinery or the din of a large group of people conversing (coffeeshops). These headphones shut down everything. I had the television playing while wearing these headphones, and I could not hear it. Low quality headphones struggle with individual noise. These headphones are very comfortable to wear, (in fact, I fell asleep in bed while wearing them). I apologize for the length of this review, but honestly, I could have written a novella to fully extol the virtues of these headphones. The Sennheiser HD-1 Noise Cancelling headphones fully exhibit the fine tradition of German Engineering. They are expensive, but you absolutely get what you pay for. Once you experience them, the sticker shock will be cancelled, just like all of the noise around you.

Sennheiser HD1 Wireless headphones are perhaps the most elegant and luxurious headphones I have ever witness. I have never used headphones this premium before. The leather-covered headband feels so nice to the touch. Build quality to the HD1 is unmatched like anything I used before. Sound Quality: The headphones have phenomenal sound. Its so clear it blows my mind every time I hear them. The bass is a strong point here while not drowning out the sound. I imagine this is what it's like having real studio headphones in a mixing room. Keep in mind that this is all through Bluetooth where sound does lack but with these, the Bluetooth sound is downright perfect.I have never had a pair of headphones that had this level of detail to the sound.the headphones does come with a 3.5 plug and Inflight adapter. Build quality and design: Comfort is the game here, While they do look elegant the focus on their headphones seem to me to be comfort. it has amazing comfortability where I can wear these all day. They are extremely light and the cups are made of amazingly soft leather which feels great to the touch. The mics is clear with phone calls and no echo between phone calls at all. According to the HD1 there are 4 mics in here and well if anything it was worth putting in there because call quality is sharp and clear with people hearing my voice. Battery life: I was able to go a full 2 days without charging on medium use. Good but I've seen better battery life before in others, Then again no other headphones is this good or this royal. Bluetooth and Setup: Bluetooth works fine with my iPhone 8 Plus and I'm sure it works great with all other phones that use BT. For my Android users, APT-X (CSR) is apart of these headphones so you can take full advantage of it. NFC works fine with the Google Pixel of mine as well. Just to throw this out there I used these headphones on a 4K TV with BT and they work fine so you don't have to wake up the house when enjoying entertainment. Setup was easy (not as easy as NFC) but it's easy to get yourself up and going fast. Noise Cancellation: It could be better, I have other headphones that "improved" on its Noise Cancellation over the years with firmware updates so maybe that will be the case here with HD1 but as it stands I give it a 8/10. As much as its a selling point it's also the shortcoming of the device and I see them improving this over time. Still, it's not as bad as others make it out to be. You certainly will drown out sound around you with these and I would still be careful if you plan on wearing them out for a walk. The world becomes a mute sound instantly. Overall: I love them and they are very luxurious and comfortable. They last a decent amount of time with battery and they feel outstanding. Its hard to complain about headphones as good as these. These headphones do lack features but it makes up doing the things it does extremely well. Sennheiser knocked it out of the pack with these and the craftsmanship shows. If you finally want to put down the toy headphones out there and get something real, Sennheiser HD1 is the first I would go to.

Very satisfied with my Sennheiser HD1 headphones. Was not overly nutty about the retro look of these cans but the design is very comfortable and adjustable. I don't "ear sweat" as much with these either compared to some other similar headphones I have owned. The HD1 sound quality is very good. I mostly listen to modern modern alternative, old skool hip hop/rap, grunge, rock and metal streamed from online services such as Google Music. Those genres sound great and are very well balanced with no tweaking. The phone app has a nice EQ feature which helped me boost the sound a bit. I never got quite the "thump" you get from other headphones with "bass boost" features but at the same time, I am beyond that phase in life. The well-balanced bass is just as tight as the mids and highs and does not distort. The noise canceling is average with no noticeable muddying of audio quality. I wear my headphones primarily in the office and effectively lock out everyone around me. (They all think I am concentrating super hard on my work!) I was able to pair my headphones to both my laptop and Moto X4 via bluetooth but was never successful pairing via NFC. I took a few phone calls and while I heard everyone quite well I apparently sounded like I was in a tunnel talking through a tin can. I took away a star for the one earmuff controls. You can do all the pause, skip, answer, transfer, etc. other high-end cans do but I am never going to remember that "push push push hold" rewinds a song. The "one button does it all" feature means you have to memorize a lot of commands to control music and calls. Volume, pause, answer and hang up are easy to figure out--the rest take some learning. There are equal and better noise canceling muffs on the market but none that were quite as well balanced straight out of the box with 22 hours of battery life. These are definitely 4.5 star headphones if audio is your only concern, especially if you can set the EQ for one specific genre and never have to tweek settings again. The only way you won't like these cans is if you are going to rely on them for phone conversations or if you jump across musical genres and feel the need to constantly tweak settings through Sennheiser's slightly clunky EQ app.

    Luxurious noise-canceling headphones

Bottom Line: luxurious build, Sennheiser sound quality, noise-canceling functionality that makes the rest of the world disappear, coupled with all-day battery life. Yeah, these are NICE headphones. Introduction: I've listened to many Bluetooth headphones over the years, and the audio quality they convey has improved considerably. I started with the Motorola S9 and made many stops along the way. I tested these with high bit-rate AAC files from Apple Music or highest-quality iTunes rips from CD, with music streamed from an Apple iPhone 7 and an Apple Retina Macbook. The Good: These are by far the most luxurious headphones I've ever used, with soft leather ear cups, brushed stainless leather-covered headband, and high-quality plastic earpiece bodies. Build quality is impeccable, with no sharp edges or visible mold marks. Sound quality is very good, with excellent detail throughout the musical range. Bass is very detailed and well-balanced. Range is very good - even when used as a bluetooth headset for calls, the connection was stable and usable 20ft away, through two walls. Noise cancellation works very well - without music playing, constant noise around you disappear, though you can still hear people speaking. With the music on, the rest of the world disappears - you can't hear anything going on around you. The Bad: Bass is well-balanced, meaning it's not very loud. While not an issue for me (it sounds realistic) the lows will sound weak compared to other headphones. Slight but audible hiss from the noise-canceling system which is noticeable when music isn't playing. (Fortunately, unlike other headphones I've tried, the hiss becomes inaudible once the music starts.)

The Sennheiser HD1 headphones came in a very nicely packaged box that you would expect from a premium brand boasting a $500 price tag. Out of the box, the carrying case is fairly large but, again, feels very nice to the touch and shows off your high-end headwear. After slipping the headphones on you notice the luxurious feel of the leather headband and ear padding. Press the power button and it almost immediately connects to your phone when in pairing mode. I also enjoyed the female British voice. I think anything British always adds a nice touch over the American accent. I immediately began to play my favorite tunes and noticed the precision clarity that the Sennheiser HD1s deliver. Every note, every nuance. The bass won't rattle your ear drum, but it did deliver solid performance and I think most would call it a good balance as some can come over juiced with bass these days. Noise cancelling was good, but not fantastic. I would say slightly less than your Bose QC35 or Sony 1000X MKII. It blocked out most ambient noise and did it with less 'pressure' that I feel with the other two. In conclusion, the Sennheiser HD1s are an excellent pair of headphones--especially for those of you who appreciate the intricate details of music in all it's forms. They carry a premium price but definitely deliver a premium product. Pros: -Clarity (high, mid-range, lows) -Comfort -Quality -Style (they will definitely differentiate you from all the other black headphone wearing execs on the plane...in a good way) Cons: -Not quite as much bass as I want, but the clarity and solidness of the overall performance made up for it -Carrying case seemed larger than most

The Good: Lightweight headphones with ear pads that are super cushioned and soft — I was comfortable wearing them for hours. They’re collapsible, making them travel-friendly. If you’re looking for active noise-canceling headphones that just work, these are a more design-focused alternative than Bose. The music is very accurate, with crisp highs and not overly heavy bass. If you value music quality first, comfort second and noise-canceling third, you’ll be happy with the HD1 Wireless. Watch Out For: You can’t turn off or even adjust the noise cancelation, which is actually a pretty big deal. When using as wireless you’ll always feel the suction to let you know that its noise cancellation is on, and this is isn’t ideal for listing in quiet environments when you don’t actually want or need noise cancellation. Also, the same button is used to pair and power on/off the headphones, so when I tried to turn them off they often went into pairing mode.

    Magnificent Sound

I’m glad to see that other headphone manufacturers have jumped on Bose’s active noise cancellation bandwagon - it is an excellent technology that keeps you from hearing noises in your environment thereby keeping your music distraction-free. And these Sennheiser headphones have added that technology to some magnificent sound reproduction. The M2 AEBT headphones have the best sound I have ever enjoyed from bluetooth headphones - full rich bass, crystal clear treble, and a smooth equalization of the sound that reproduces all music the way I expect it to sound. The Sennheiser sound is nothing short of amazing. Their literature attributes the quality of the sound to something called aptX® audio coding which helps overcome that thin sound that some bluetooth transmissions can have. Music sounds more fully present and complete - the first music I heard was startling. The headphone earpieces are very thickly padded and quite comfortable. And Sennheiser includes a nice case for transporting the headphones - also included are a cable (for non-bluetooth usage) and an airplane adapter so you can use the headphones while flying (without the distractions of horrific plane noises!). For me, sound is the most important thing to consider when evaluating headphones and that I why I gave them five stars for this review. But I do have a few negative comments that others might want to consider before buying these. Their quick guide is basically useless - somehow the illustrations don’t quite capture the operation of the headphones - their instruction manual (online) has better illustrations and is available in single languages but runs on at 30+ pages which seems excessive. Their patented NoiseGard (yes, that’s how they spell it) hybrid active noise cancellation technology works very well but it cannot be turned off - I can imagine situations where you might not want to be in a state of near complete audio isolation - it seems like a strange omission. Finally, apart from an on/off/bluetooth switch, every other possible control is done through one multi-function switch. And while moving it up or down might be obvious for controlling volume, the series of presses you need to remember for all other functions is like trying to remember morse code. Press once to play or pause a song, but also press once to accept or end a call, but if you press once and hold you reject the call. Press twice to move to the next song and press three times to move to the previous song (also press twice and hold and press three times and hold have their own functions and pressing three times when no music is playing tells you how much battery you have left). I hate multi-function buttons. But most of those annoyances I listed don’t bother me because I’m old-fashioned and prefer to control my music from the device playing it and I prefer to answer my phone on my phone. And, ultimately, they are petty complaints in the shadow of the great sound I’m enjoying.

I don't know how manufacture's continue to blow me away. These headphones destroy my Bose 35's out of the water. The noise cancelling work perfectly. The fit and finish is amazing. The smoothness of the adjusters feels so good and fluid. I wore these for pretty much an entire day and had zero issues with function or discomfort. The packaging and travel accessories are very well made and look great. I still prefer the quality of my M&D headphone but these will end my go to when I need or want noise cancelling.
