Great Cleaning Power & User Friendly
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TLDR: The cleaning power of the Shark Power Detect Pro puts my other vacuums to shame. PROS EXCELLENT cleaning performance Automatic floor-type sensors Automatic edge detection Automatic dirt detection True HEPA filtration (99.99%) Multiple included attachments Lightweight and easy to use CONS Cord is stiff and tangles easily Cord storage is equally frustrating DESIGN At first glance, there is a lot about the Shark Detect Pro that looks like gimmicks. Dirt sensors, edge sensors, “tangle-free” brush rolls, etc. There are so many words and features that if I were shopping for a vacuum, I would probably look right over the Shark. A product with all these features must be a gimmicky product, trying to impress you with words and ultimately comes up short on performance. If this were the case, I would be totally wrong. The Shark Power Detect is the real deal. Does it have a lot of gimmicky sounding features? Yes. But do they work? YES! The new Detect Pro puts all my other vacuums to shame. SENSOR CLEANING The Detect Pro uses a variety of sensors to optimize your cleaning performance. Shark has put air particulate sensors in the suction path to monitor air quality. If the vacuum detects dirty air being pulled up off the floor, it will automatically speed up the brush rolls and increase the suction. Edges? Same. A sensor on each side of the power head detects when the vacuum is within about an inch of a wall. When detected, the vacuum will automatically direct extra suction to the wall side. This virtually eliminates the need to use the included attachments and nozzles for cleaning. The Power Detect has no issues removing items directly against baseboards. Flooring changes? No worries. The Power Detect has ultrasonic sensors embedded in the bottom of the power head that automatically determine the floor type. Whether it be carpet, tile, hardwood, etc. the vacuum will change the brush speed and suction performance to match the floor type. It works slick and within seconds of changing floor surfaces. I have other vacs that don’t utilize this technology and often find they fling more dirt across the tile than removing it. The Shark is a game changer. USE The Shark is extremely easy to use even with its excellent cleaning performance. It remains easy to push and pull regardless of the surface. Additionally, the Shark is lightweight and easy to carry upstairs and down. I’m guessing 2 – 3 pounds lighter than my current vacuum. First picking up the Shark was surprising at how light it was. Between the “total seal” HEPA system and the odor neutralizing disk for the power head, my house hasn’t smelled this fresh in some time. The Power Detect system is a seamlessly integrated system that makes for a surprisingly powerful, efficient, and effective cleaner. FINAL THOUGHTS At the end of the day, how does the Shark compare to its competition? The competition needs to be concerned. I tested the Shark on my upstairs. It is a seldom used area of the house but has both tile and carpeting. I pulled out my German engineered vacuum from “Big D” and swept the carpet. Not bad. Pretty darn clean, with nearly nothing in the dust bin. But rightfully so, it doesn’t get much use up there. I then grabbed the Shark. Ugh. Even after just vacuuming, the Shark had what I estimate as more than 5x the debris in the dust bin. Disgusting! Granted, “Big D” has many more years of use on it, but even so, the results were eye opening. I would never have expected so much residual dirt and hair to be left over. If you are in the market for a quality vacuum with excellent performance. Shark should be on your shopping list. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Bang for your buck vacuum that really cleans well
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark Detect Pro Lift-Away Advance Bagless Upright Vacuum contains a lot of technology to help efficiently clean your floors and carpet. The vacuum contains sensors that figure out how dirty the floor is and automatically adjust suction and brush roll speed to clean effectively. As you are vacuuming, you can tell if the vacuum ramps up the brush roll speed and the suction power if it senses dirty. A pass through a medium pile carpet and you can see all sorts of dust, particles, lint, and other junk get filled in the dustbin. This is a clear indication that the vacuum is pulling garbage out of the carpet. Even though the vacuum is pulling all these microparticles out of the carpet, you do not get any residue particles put into the air thanks to the numerous filters that Shark markets Anti-Allergen. With all the filters in place, you can rest assured that all the dirt will stay in the collection bin and not back in the air. Also, Shark includes Odor Neutralizer technology. This essentially means there is a Febreeze cartridge that you attach to the vacuum and the expelled air comes out of the vacuum smelling like Febreeze. It is a pleasant smell as you vacuum and helps deter any smell of your traditional vacuuming. No more warm plastic on brush smell. There are three settings that come with the vacuum: hard floors, Carpet Low Pile, and Thick carpet. All these settings can be chosen using a simple switch. The vacuum comes installed with both the hard floor fine dust brush and the bulk traditional brush and both work in conjunction with the mode the vacuum detects. Three attachments allow you to get hard to reach places and gentle dusting. The wand disconnects from the vacuum body and is lightweight so that it is not cumbersome when using the wand. Overall, this Shark Detect Pro is much better value than a Dyson and you get a lot of bang for your buck.

Shark does it again - Excellent!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have long been a fan of Shark appliances. Excellent quality and performance, and I have never had any problems with any Shark products. This vacuum is no exception. There is a quick start assembly guide printed right on the box. All there is to setup is pop the powered floor brush into the main unit, drop in the wand and hook the hose up. There is an “odor neutralizer” cartridge that does add a nice scent while using. And now you're ready to use. The power button has on / off, but also functions to control the powered floor brush and vacuum motor for different type of floors and dirt level. The “headlight” illuminates the area well. There are two storage tabs for the crevice tool and the small brush. The cord storage hooks are large enough to fully wind the cord. Wind the cord in a “figure 8” fashion, you will minimize twists occurring over time. I started using in the “basic” full power mode, and this machine is amazing. It easily picked up pet hair and dirt form the carpet. Then on to experimenting with the “Detect” mode. The vacuum varied the motor speed depending on level of dirt it detected. Also the edge detection worked well, and increased the “headlight” light level at the edge to see any small debris. The main vacuum unit and hose are easily detached to use in “Lift-Away” mode, and the small brush or crevice tool attached for cleaning stairs, cushions, etc. Cleaning the vacuum is a breeze. The dust bin pops off, and the top and bottom lids open for easy cleaning. The self cleaning brush roller is also easily removed for additional cleaning if needed. In addition to the dust bin, there are three additional filters to assure all dirt is trapped. There is a middle foam filter, then a felt filter, and a final HEPA filter. The filters can be rinsed to clean. Overall, I find this to be an excellent product, works well, and certainly would recommend.

Great Option
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have tried so many vacuums over the years and feel like I'm not easily impressed but the Shark Detect Pro® Lift-Away® ADV Bagless Upright Vacuum with DuoClean Detect, Anti-Allergen, Lift-Away®, and Odor Neutralizer Technology has actually managed to impress me after a few uses. I'm very familiar with the Shark brand so for a long time I just felt like most of their upright options were just slight tweaks of each other but nothing big. This one felt a little different. The detect technology is similar to a cordless version I have from the brand (which works well but the design of the actual vacuum needs some work) and it works excellently. It almost makes you a little ashamed of how well you THOUGHT your previous vacuum was cleaning because it lets you know the spots you need to keep going over to truly get it clean with the dark purple/lighter purple/white indicator alerting you. The suction is excellent on this machine BUT this is perhaps the noisiest Shark vacuum I have ever owned. Initially I thought maybe I had accidentally left some packaging on it that was causing the noise but nope. It just appears to be the way it works. It doesn't appear to affect the actual functionality of the vacuum though. The Odor Neutralizer Technology does make it a little easier to forgive the noisiness. An included pop simply snaps into the base of the vacuum and while vacuuming releases a fresh scent. I thought it would feel gimmicky but I actually like it. We'll see how well it performs over time but so far it's a nice touch. If it lasts for a decent amount of time before needing to replace it then that will be an even better touch. The attachments are what I have come to expect from Shark (this one includes 3) and I like that at least 2 of them can be stored on the vacuum (for some of their vacuums they seemed to go away from the storage spots meaning you had to keep the attachments somewhere else instead of having easy access). There are a lot of other attachments you can purchase to truly personalize for your needs which is nice. Overall, I think this is a great option from the Shark family. I also really like the 5-year warranty included to give a little peace of mind when choosing this vacuum.

The Cleanest I've Seen My Carpet In A Long Time
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.CLEANING 10/10: Let's be clear, I'm still not a 'vacuum guy.' After my Shark Vertex AZ2002, I thought I had found the one machine that could make me tolerate this chore. I honestly didn't think it could get better, and I wasn't looking for a new vacuum. However, this Detect Pro model has managed to do it again, adding a layer of smart technology that makes cleaning faster and, dare I say, even more satisfying. The Shark Detect Pro technology includes DirtDetect, Edge Detect, and FloorDetect technology. Regarding the “DirtDetect” system. It has a two-brush roll system, with four sensors to automatically react to hidden dirt, debris, hair, and will in turn increase suction and brush roll speed to get that all up. It also has “direction detect” where it will recognize which direction I am vacuuming and automatically directs the powerful suction to that direction for max cleaning both forward AND reverse. You can actively see this working as the light on the front of the vacuum will go from a white to a violet along with hearing the vacuum increase suction. This technology saved me a lot of time. As I didn’t have to go over things as much and clearly worked. As here's the crazy part that sold me: After the vacuum's purple DirtDetect light kicked on and the suction boosted over a high-traffic area, I went back to test it. I vacuumed that same spot again, and... nothing. The light stayed white. The suction stayed normal. That's not a gimmick; that's just smart, efficient cleaning. Nice! The “FloorDetect” technology also worked well. Automatically switching from carpet to hardwood floor. The only problem I had with this system is throw rugs. As when I went over them in detect mode it would increase suction and then try to eat it. Making me have to switch to manual mode for those (hard floor, carpet low pile, and thick carpet). Which is done by turning the knob on the top posterior right of the dustbin. Picture is attached. I also enjoyed the “Edge Detect” which uses sensors to register when you are near an edge. You can see this in action too. As the device has lights on the front of it. During normal operation the two front “headlights” are on. However, when you are near an edge it will turn off the opposite light keeping the light on just the side it is going against while boosting the suction. And it did a great job at picking up everything in the corner where I didn’t have to go back behind it and pick it up or come from a different direction. By the time I was done I had a full Dillon’s/King Soopers bag full of dust and debris. And dang did my carpets look great. BUILD QUALITY 10/10: Like all the other Shark devices I own it is built not only with good quality but with attention to detail to try and make it as user friendly and intuitive as possible. Everything clicks together nice, isn’t loose, and when picking it up and manipulating it is very smooth. I like that you can pull out the long tube to hit higher up places, edges of stairs, or in-between the refrigerator and cabinets where dust accumulates. Along with being able to lift off the entire base to carry around giving you more versatility. On the vertex you can lift the base off to go under tiny spaces. But with this it lifts off the brush roll making it so you cannot do that, which is a minor negative. Each of those buttons feel satisfying and click back into place nicely. But the shape is a bit odd and not fully satisfying. Almost built to be more low profile over useful. The dustbin comes off easily, has a dual opening, one on the bottom to dump stuff out which is a button. It doesn’t immediately open though so I tended to have to open it manually getting some dust and debris on my hand. The other one is on the top, that you kind of peel off. Thankfully, it requires just the right amount of pressure to not happen accidentally or hard enough you end up forcefully opening it and spilling everything. But I love when vacuums come with plastic containers that are reusable and cleanable over bags that you have to keep buying. The entire thing is relatively lightweight at 15 lbs and the handle is comfortable, causing no fatigue during an hour of cleaning. It moves easily where I want it to go. However, my main usability complaint is the start/stop button. Because the vacuum pulls you along slightly, it's a two-handed operation to turn off: you have to lock it upright with one hand or your foot, then reach to press the power button When it is in the locked position, the vacuum suction keeps running but stops the roll from spinning. The lights on the front do a good job at making me see the debris on the carpet/floor. Even in dark rooms. Overall noise of the vacuum is quieter than most while still providing great suction power. OTHER: Shark has also impressed me with their anti-allergen seals and HEPA filter trap to capture 99.99% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum. I’ve never had any issues with things not staying inside the vacuum. The five-year warranty is appreciated. It also comes with some cool tools. The normal pointer tool for hitting corners or stairs. Along with a brush. But uniquely has a wand that helps flat surfaces suck up dirt. Which is hard to explain. I’ll take a picture of it for the review. But is something unique which I think I’ll use a lot. My only aesthetic complaint is the 'Evergreen' color. In person, it comes across as a drab, dated shade of green that makes a high-tech vacuum look like it's from a decade ago. It's a minor point, but the Vertex definitely had a more modern look and makes it look like a more premium device. Cord length is also a bit short. PROS: - Smart-Detect technology is the real deal; you can see and hear it actively working. - Edge-Detect works perfectly, saving you from having to use other tools for corners. - Feels like an upgrade; it's lighter and easier to manipulate than the Vertex. - The transformer versatility is still here, letting you clean everything with one machine. - Headlights are super bright and reveal dirt you can't normally see. CONS: - The automatic mode is too aggressive for throw rugs and tries to eat them. - The power button is in an awkward spot, requiring two hands to turn off. The Vertex did this better. - The "Evergreen" colorway is horrendously ugly and makes it look dated. - Lift-Away pod detaches from the floorhead, so you can't use it to vacuum under low furniture. CONCLUSION: Is it as good as my Vertex? I’m not sure. It’s at least as good if not better. It is lighter, easier to manipulate, has newer features with the sensors, and this is the cleanest I’ve seen my carpet for quite some time. Granted I’ve been having automatic vacuums do the job for quite a while now. Which just don’t provide the same level of clean as one of these bad boys. Overall, I don’t like vacuuming. But having a top-tier vacuum like this makes it a lot more fun and pleasurable experience. As I look forward to it because I can interact with it in several ways, can see it doing a phenomenal job at cleaning, and that reminds me of mowing the lawn. You get a very stark before and after picture which makes the effort not feel wasted.

Fantastic suction and great features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have had several Shark vacuum cleaners over the years, ranging from stick models to full blown uprights. I find that generally, the Sharks perform very well and last a long time. The Detect Pro Lift Away has a huge number of innovative features that make it stand out in the sea of uprights available. Setup To start with, the overall initial assembly was very intuitive. Being a Lift Away vac means that you can leave the brush bar assembly behind and just grab the motor and go. Shark has kept it as streamlined as possible by making it bagless. So you can see when it needs to be emptied thanks to it's clear dust cup. This whole assembly is well thought out and allows you to not only remove and empty the dust cup by itself, but also take apart the inner pieces to remove anything that gets trapped. The dust cup is attached directly to the flexible hose which is connected to the handle. The handle itself is removable from the tube it sits in, and you can connect any of the included attachments to this handle piece to clean as you need. This is also true for the tube the handle sits in, as it can also be removed and used with the attachments allowing you to increase your reach. You can do this with the Lift Away portion either disconnected or still attached to the base unit. Using On Floors The brush roll assembly has two different brush rollers installed in it. One is smoother and very soft for hard floors, and the other is more of a traditional roller brush for carpets. The brush assembly also has s series of sensors installed in it to detect things like left and right edge cleaning when the brush unit is run along a wall and also a general dirt detect sensor. All of them are designed to boost motor speed when cleaning what the vacuum sees as dirtier areas. Not only can it detect edges and analyze the amount of dirt it sees, it will also auto detect the floor type and increase the suction and also the brush speed for better performance. The two brush rolls work together to pull in more debris and hair. The vacuum also has an air freshener pod built into the brush roll assembly. You can increase or decrease the amount of scent you want, and it does smell quite nice and gives the room a fresh smell. This helps to keep the dust cup clean smelling as well. And as a bonus, the dust cup area has HEPA seals to keep any allergens locked inside. Power Button The Detect Pro has a unique On/Off button. The button itself is able to be rotated to select the mode you want to use it in. You can choose auto, hard floor, deep carpet or smooth carpet. When you power on the vacuum, there is an illuminated display around the button that lets you know which mode it's in. Personally, I've kept this in the auto position to allow it to detect the floor type itself. Shark also claims the vacuum applies the same amount of suction in both the forward direction as well as reverse. Judging from my experience with this machine, I believe that's a true statement. It does pick up debris in both directions. Actual Use My experience with the Detect Pro has been very positive. The first thing I noticed was that the vacuum actually pulls itself forward on deep carpeting which makes it easy to push forward. The suction power is really good and leaves my carpeting thicker feeling. On hard floors like in my kitchen, vacuuming along the cabinet baseboards engages the side sensors and the motor power kicks up. The two included headlights are small, bright and well placed to show you what's in front of the machine. When I'm done, the dust cup is amazingly full. It's very easy to empty the cup by removing it from the vacuum, positioning it over a garbage can and pressing the release for the bottom door. Anything that doesn't fall out on it's own is easy to remove by reaching into the cup and pulling it out. And along those same lines, there are access doors in any place that might be needed to clean out any clog that might occur. This includes underneath the vacuum. Tools I really like the included tools this vacuum comes with. There's the standard crevice tool that's for, well vacuuming crevices and tight spaces. There are two different brush tools included as well. The first one I use all the time for cleaning the stairs in Lift Away mode. It's actually got two different ways to use this tool. The first is with the brush clipped on. This is a pretty standard vacuum tool as well but it's a larger brush than most other vacuums come with. You can remove the outer brush and use the tool without it. This is great for getting more suction on the stairs, and it also has two short strips on it to snag pet hair. This works great and cleans the stairs better than any other tool I've used. The third tool is an angled brush tool and will come in handy for a variety of situations. You can store two of these tools on board. Your choice. Cons If there was anything to complain about on this vacuum, for me, it's the actual cord. I know, I know, I'm reaching. But when you use a corded vacuum, some cords are easy to work with and some are just not. I also found it to be on the shorter side. Not short exactly, but not as long as other vacuums I have, and use. Another thing I have a problem with is that no matter how I wound the cord on the vacuum cord holder, the plug end was never at the right place to clip it to the cord. It was always either at the top hook or the bottom hook. Which means the plug is always flopping around whenever I pull the vacuum out to use it. Likewise, the cord clip on the handle never kept the cord for very long. It just wasn't small enough to keep the cord secured while vacuuming. I can deal with the cord complaint because the rest of the vacuum is easy to love. It has a lot of cool features, comes with three really useful attachments, easily doubles as a portable vacuum to work on stairs or take out to the car, and at the end of the day, just works really well and leaves our carpets feeling plush.

A Vacuum that Greatly Exceeded Expectations
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had heard nothing but praise for Shark vacuums over the years, but I was always the type of guy that simply bought the 'good enough' vacuum when replacing them. I never understood getting excited about a vacuum. This vacuum changed that. There is so much consideration in the design, and the performance far exceeds that of lower end vacuums much to my surprise. Pros Smart Design throughout Really strong suction Smell neutralizer Auto Detect flooring Cons Could do better on hardwood, but its not bad The build quality and overall design of this vacuum is superb. It is all plastic obviously, but it doesn't feel brittle. The cable comes in at 25ft which I feel is adequate. The tank on it is easy to remove with simply one hand, and the latches to empty it are study while also being easy to use. Performance of this thing is on another level. As stated earlier the suction of this is much stronger than my previous vacuums, rivaling that of my shop vac. Its design allows it to get really tight into corner and up against the walls, making it less likely that you're going to have to use an attachment or the detachable handle to finish cleaning (though I still had to use it occasionally). The smart features of this vacuum really make it fun to use. It has the headlights you would find on some vacuums, but it detects while its being used if its against a wall, and if it is it switches to that side shining on the wall and the area right in front of the vacuum which is really neat. It also has indicators showing that it knows what its doing. It has a clean detection sensor on it, letting you know that its detecting what its drawing up. Once clean, the indicator turns from purple to white and the suction/roller slows down until you move to a dirty area. Its not just a gimmick either, I went over an area previously cleaned and it went back to white. Additional nice touches are the detect flooring and smell neutralizer. In my house I have a mixture of hardwood, tile and carpet. I can switch between all flooring types without having the manually change anything. Not that manually switching is hard, but its a minor inconvenience that you don't have to worry about. The smell neutralizer is really nice because I have dogs and it has no problem helping getting the dog dander smell out. I think anyone with a German shepherd will appreciate this feature. And while I have only used it a handful of times, I do have a German Shepherd who sheds like crazy. My old vacuum I would have to spend time unclogging from the sheer amount of dog hair that would get caught up in the roller and in the tank. I haven't had to clean this out yet and its removed multiple tanks of dog hair alone. I got to say I've never been more happy with a vacuum and would highly recommend this to anyone else.

Extremely light and powerful
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first thing I noticed upon unboxing and easily assembling the Shark Detect Pro, was just how light it was for a full size vacuum. The maneuverability coupled with the suction power make this one of the most effortless vacuums I have ever used. Having owned several Shark products over the years, including vacuums from over a decade, I have first hand experience with the brand and certainly their longevity. As a matter of fact, I still own an older model Shark vacuum that I have had for over 10 years. Besides running over the cord a few times and only having to change filters every once in a while, it still runs like new. That said, it feels like it’s almost double the weight of the new Detect Pro, and the roller is a hair magnet. The new Shark Detect Pro uses PowerFins on the brush roller, which is way beyond what the older standard brush roller vacuums offered. With PowerFins, the vacuum not only picks up debris easier, it also alleviates the annoying mess of having hair wrapped around the roller. In my family we have a lot of long hair and after using this vacuum all week, the roller doesn’t even have a single tangled hair on it, which is incredible! Long gone are the days of cutting massive amounts of hair off of the roller with scissors. For the PowerFins feature alone, I would give this vacuum five stars, and that’s not even mentioning the other positives. As previously mentioned, the weight of this vacuum, coupled with the suction power, makes this the easiest vacuum I have ever used. It’s almost as if it is self-propelled. I don’t know if it’s the PowerFins, or the power/suction in general, but maneuvering this vacuum around the room is almost completely effortless. We have a lot of carpet in our basement and I would get a little fatigued using the old heavy Shark. When using the new Shark Detect Pro, there is no fatigue, even when using the lift away feature with the hose. Whether you are using this vacuum on floors, or lifting away the canister to use the hose in hard to reach areas, the power and suction is very strong, and offers plenty for my needs. Two of the technology upgrades in newer vacuum cleaners that I am thankful for, include weight, and power. The suction power is among the best I have used. With kids in the house, I vacuum at least a couple of times per week. The first time I used the Shark Detect Pro, I was both surprised and disgusted by the amount of hair and debris it had in the canister when I was finished. I had already vacuumed a few days prior, and this new vacuum still managed to get even more out of what I thought was already pretty clean carpet. The floor and direction detect features both work incredibly well. When setting the mode dial to the auto detect, this vacuum will change its behavior from hard floors, to carpet, automatically. The power and suction will also change depending on what surface you are on, or whether you are pushing, or pulling the vacuum, which makes for a very efficient cleaning path. When I run it upstairs with both carpets and hardwood floors, I use the auto detect setting. When I am downstairs where it’s all carpet, I switch it to the low pile setting. Both settings work perfectly and make cleaning quick and easy. This vacuum also has LED headlights on each side of the roller, which makes seeing debris, especially on hard floors, so much easier. They have also designed this vacuum with a replaceable twist-in odor pod that lets the user select how much odor eating scent you want released. While I do not know how long the pods will last, I do appreciate the fresh scent that this vacuum puts off while in use. Lastly, this vacuum uses HEPA filtration, so I never have to worry about fine particles of dust escaping into the room while I am using it. Keeping the filters cleaned or replaced every so often is important if you want the HEPA filtration and suction performing at peak levels. It may sound strange getting excited about a vacuum cleaner, but when I see what this thing can pull out of the carpets, even when they look clean, is both disgusting and satisfying at the same time. This is a fantastic vacuum cleaner from Shark and I would expect nothing less.

A Great Vacuum (for hard floors, rugs and carpets)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've now gone through about 9 robot vacuums. Several still work, but few have done a great job in a long time. In fact I still have a Kirby G5 I kept as a backup. It's heavy and does a good job on carpets, but not so much on hardwood/tile floors. The last upright vacuum I got was in 2019 a Shark DuoClean. It did a FANTASTIC job on hardwood and tile floors (so, so on carpets). I live in a 2 story split level home. I need 5 robots to cover each level. This week I came home from a vacation and with the afternoon sun streaming through the window I noticed how much dust had accumulated while I was gone. I checked the run schedule for my robot for this area, and found it had not run for 6 weeks, guess I was not paying attention. I recalled what a good job my last Shark did. I recently saw an ad for the new Shark Detect Pro and was intrigued, could various sensors detect and adjust a vacuum for multiple surfaces? Over the last 5 years almost all my floors are now hardwood or tile with various throw rugs all over (except for my stairs which are still carpeted). The new "Shark Detect Pro" has two sets of rollers, one 'smooth' the other with a beater bar built in. It also has a squeegee Bristle strip behind the two rollers. It also had 4 dirt detection sensors (one on side, on ob bottom and two in the nozzle area. It uses these sensors to increase the suction speed when it detects extra dirt in the various areas. In my initial tests they are very effective, you put the edge of the vacuum against a wall edge or a piece of furniture, and that edge gets more suction power. When cleaning my wooden floors, the detector lamp (purple) only came on when I went into areas with more dust (under the piano bench) and behind furniture where the robot could not reach. The front spinning roller gets up dust like I can't believe (and on the back it has a 'comb' that prevents hairs from winding up around it. The Shark passes over/across dusty areas leaving a clean strip of floor behind. The grittiness the robot's seemed to leave behind is a thing of the past (YEA). The Detect Pro has 4 modes of operation: Detect Mode and Manual (Hard Floor, Carpet/Low Pile and Carpet/Thick). The outer shell of the on/off button rotates to make this selection (the icon selected will be illuminated). On the head of the unit to the right is a Dirt Detection indicator, it will be white under normal circumstance, but it turns purple when a surface is dirty, it then goes into "Cleaning Boost" mode, as lond as heavy dirt is detected. To each edge there is an arrow, when this is illuminated the headlight to that edge will brighten, if more dirt is detected the purple boost light will also light up. When I first used my Detect Pro all of the edges caused boost mode to be detected. when I went back over the same areas boost mode was not triggered (I guess most of the dust was gone). If something is wrong the headlight will blink red/white to indicate the problem. The other feature I missed was the ability to "lift away" the vacuum from the floor cleaning head, and use either the long floor wand or the short handle with various accessories (3 are provided, a crevice tool, a small brush, and a wider longer fine brush (perfect for fan blades and dusting or other high objects). Two of these tools can be stored on the side of Detect Pro Vacuum. If that's all there was, I'd be most pleased, but then I go to use the Shark on my still carpeted stairs (no robot currently does stairs (duh)). The Shark is quite light and the long wand reaches more than half way up the stairs (Hay Shark, a lighted wand would be nice!!), so after finishing 1/2 I take the Shark to the top and work my way down (not too difficult). And the handy little tools make getting behind and under things is much easier. The new attachment to better clean ceiling fans is most welcome. The bright LED lights on the front are also a nice touch and when they brighten for corners it makes a real difference. And it's very easy to empty the dust container. You simply lift off the canister (and pop open the bottom to empty it).The Shark will likely get emptied with each use, it's that easy. It also has a powerfully self propelled motor for use when vacuuming the floor within the floor cleaning base. The great job the Detect Pro does on hard floors as well as on carpets makes this a most impressive vacuum cleaner.

Powerful!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark DetectPro vacuum is quite impressive. I haven't owned a corded vacuum in a while because I dislike how the cord gets tangled. Even though that issue still occurs with this one, I'm willing to overlook it because the vacuum's power is amazing. The set up is straightforward; all parts snap together easily without any issues. Once everything is in place, you're ready to go. The Shark vacuum features Odor Neutralizer technology, and the odor cartridge has a pleasant scent. After each use, you can adjust the intensity of the fragrance or choose not to use it if you're sensitive to smells. I appreciate that this Shark vacuum offers a variety of suction settings. It automatically adjusts to different surfaces using the DuoClean Detect mode, or you can manually set it based on the type of floor you're working with. Another excellent feature is the Edge Detect, which has worked wonders compared to my other vacuums. It also has headlights to make debris more visible. There are different cleaning modes, including one that allows you to remove the handle for easily cleaning the couch or picking up debris from tables, and another that lets you take off the wand for hard to reach areas. This Shark vacuum comes with three additional accessories, and many more can be purchased separately. I love that everything is washable, allowing the vacuum to last a long time without needing to replace filters anytime soon. However, this vacuum has two rollers, one can be removed, and one cannot. This became a problem when I accidentally ran over a shoelace that got stuck in the roller due to a knot. It took me a minute to figure out how to remove it without breaking anything. In the end, I had to cut the shoelace to pull it out, but thankfully, nothing broke. Nonetheless, this was quite frustrating. The Shark vacuum is on the heavy side and sometimes it can be difficult to maneuver around. The maximum fill is extremely small compared to the size of the dust cup which is not ideal. If you are looking for a powerful vacuum, this one is it.

Very versatile bagless vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a very versatile bagless vacuum. It is a powerful upright that can also be used as a kind of cannister vac too. The main part lifts off the floor tool and can be held or securely placed where you need it to reach those cobwebs in the corners of the ceiling or the tops of the curtains. The vac comes with an assortment of tools including the standard crevice tool, upholstery tool, Pet/Multi-Tool and a novel anti-allergen dust brush that is great for dusting wooden blinds. It also has a manual surface mode adjuster, but the best part is the Detect Mode. In Detect Mode, the vacuum detects floor type and how much dirt, then automatically adjusts the suction level. It also has a dirt detection indicator, edge detection indicators and headlights that flash or turn red to indicate the vac needs your attention. It comes with a booklet that includes how to do required maintenance, too. Other cool features include the Oder Neutralizer. This consists of a replaceable and adjustable cartridge. No more stale vacuum smell! You can also use the vac without this cartridge if you choose. The HEPA filters are also a plus for our allergy prone household. And emptying the dust bin is straight forward. I have to say that I am impressed with this vacuum. I ran it over a couple of throw rugs (that had been vacuumed by my robot vacuum just a few hours previously) as a test. I was shocked at how much dust and debris came out of two little, supposedly clean rugs. This thing has power. One small thing that is an annoyance we will certainly just get used to, is that the foot pedal that releases the lift-off part of the vac looks like and is in the same place as the pedal on our old upright that starts it and releases the handle so you can push it. Right away, my S.O. stepped on the pedal and the vac came apart (like it is supposed to…) This is a habit we will both have to break. Overall, this is a really nice versatile upright vacuum that gets the job done quickly and efficiently. If you are looking for a vacuum, check this one out.

Good mid level Shark vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my third Shark upright vacuum cleaner. I have a two story house and I like to have a vacuum on each floor. This one operates fairly similarly to the others, but the power button is not on the handle, which is where I’m used to it. I have to bend over (first world problems, I know) and push it, after trying to just turn it on or off with the handle which is already in my hand. The detect feature is okay, I have tile and Berber-like carpet and a few area rugs in between. At this point I prefer just selecting a pile height and leaving it there. The odor neutralizing technology is fine. I don’t think it does a whole lot, but I have it installed on my vacuum. You can also not install it if you don’t like the way it smells. The cartridge should be replaced every 6 months according to the instructions. Pros: Self-cleaning brushroll is great and doesn’t accumulate hair like old vacuums used to. If you have never owned a Shark vacuum with this feature, you will like it. It is hard not to like. I have cut hair off of many a vacuum roller, and you definitely won’t have to do that on this vacuum. The dust cup is large and easy to empty. Don’t forget about the upper part of the dust cup which spins long hair into a tidy clump on the cone shaped part. There are headlights on the main vacuum brushroll unit. This is really helpful for seeing dust and pet hair in your house that you didn’t know existed. Cons: Not crazy about the power button location. The other Shark vacuums I own have the power button on the handle, which feels more intuitive. There is no light on the handle, so if you use the attachments you have to rely on your own lighting. No turbo stair upholstery tool is included but there is an anti-allergen dust brush. Use the wand release extension to use the wand and attach the dust tool to it in order to vacuum underneath a deeper piece of furniture like a couch or a bed. The dust tool can be maneuvered in order to fit in various ways. There is no button to turn the rollers off if you are using the wand attachment and the rollers are on a surface that might be affected by them, put the body of the vacuum on a different surface. Although the rollers are soft, I had this situation happen to me once with an older Dyson model, which did have the off button, but I forgot to push it. The roller chewed through my softer puzzle piece-like gym flooring. It is a nice feature to have in a vacuum. I feel like this model is more of a base model than my others. If you want the additional features, just look into a higher level Shark vacuum, because I’m really happy with those.

Good Upright Vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve generally been a fan of Shark vacuums and have owned a few over the years. They’ve always been powerful and reliable. The LA802 has been living up to that so far and it’s a good upright vacuum with great suction that works on a variety of surfaces. I have some nitpicks with it but overall I think it’s a good vacuum. The box includes the vacuum and 3 basic attachments, which are the crevice tool, a pet/upholstery multitool, and a dust brush. There is also an odor neutralizer cartridge, which is supposed to prevent odor buildup inside the vacuum. The assembly was simple and everything snapped together and was ready to go in just a few minutes. The vacuum has a nice look and build quality feels decent. All the buttons and latches feel solid and everything pulls away and attaches cleanly. In terms of general ergonomics and use, The LA802 is pretty intuitive to use. You can lift the pod off of the floor nozzle and carry it in one hand while using the handle in the other with the included attachments. The attachments can connect either directly to the handle or at the end of the wand, depending on what you are doing. One thing you cannot do is lift the pod away and still use the floor nozzle, which is pretty disappointing. On my old Shark upright you could do this and essentially turn it into a stick vac with a handheld canister and it made getting into tight spaces really easy. The LA802 does have enough clearance between the pod and and the floor nozzle that it can get a good amount of the way under couches and beds, but the farther reaches will require something else. The vacuum isn’t lightweight, but it’s not heavy either and carrying it around wasn’t bad. The cord is 25ft, which is just a little too short for me - I was having to reposition the plug a bit more than I’d like and I think an extra 5-10ft would have been helpful here. The cord holder is at an odd position behind where the hose is and I noticed it would fall off a lot while I was vacuuming. The LA802 has great suction and with the roller and soft brush it works great on both carpet and hard surfaces. Even with the best cordless vacuums it’s hard to beat the power of the cord. The power switch goes between 4 modes that are Detect, Hard Floor, Carpet, and Thick Carpet. The Detect mode is the automatic one and uses the sensors to figure out the floor type, how much dirt there is, and if you are close to an edge and it adjusts itself accordingly. Overall I found the Detect mode to work really well. It quickly adjusted between different floor types and was consistent at detecting edges and upping the suction power. It only really struggled on an area rug I had with a lot of varying surface heights and patterns and for that I had to change to the Carpet mode. The other modes are more manual and don’t utilize the sensors. The noise level was quieter than I expected and generally as inoffensive as a vacuum can be when it’s on, though the Carpet and High Carpet modes do introduce this grinding sound that isn’t as pleasant. The dust bin is 0.8qt and big enough that I could vacuum most of my house without having to empty it. I did find it odd to see the “Max Fill” line at the bottom of the bin though. That seems like a mistake to me as you hit that line pretty quickly with plenty of room still left in the bin. I’m not exactly sure what the purpose of the odor neutralizer is. It’s a cartridge that Shark says should be replaced every 6 months. At first I thought it was supposed to be like a carpet deodorizer, but from what I can see it’s supposed to keep the vacuum itself from smelling, which is not an issue I can say I’ve experienced. Overall I’m happy with the LA802. It does have its quirks but it still adds up to a good experience if you’re looking at a corded upright vacuum cleaner.

Got the basics right, but tech is so-so
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ordered this vacuum because my current Shark vacuum is about three years old and does just a so-so job on carpets. A bit about me and household: I have a 4000 sqft one-level home. All the common areas are done in real wood flooring, while the bedrooms and family room are done in carpet. We have tons of rugs in the house, both on the wood floors and the carpet. In the home are three adults that spend a lot of time outdoors gardening and the like, along with two large (90lbs) doodle dogs. Neither dog sheds much, if at all, but because of their curly hair, they are very reminiscent of a duster pad…and they definitely can hold onto dirt and dust. We tend to clean the house about once every ten days, usually because of the dust from the dogs. Vacuum notes Good 1) Lots of tech., including side sensors for stronger suction on the sides of the vacuum head when pushed against a wall, and dirt/debris monitor that increases suction when needed for extra dirty areas. My first time using either of these techs. 2) Lightweight for such a strong vacuum. My guess is that it’s one of the strongest sucking vacuums out there but it weighs no more than my older Shark. 3) Long power cord length. 4) Duster attachment works really well on window blinds and shelves. 5) The side sensor tech works really well. Within a second of being against a wall, you can hear the added suction engage. 6) I love the power knob. It’s a button/knob combo on top of the vacuum base. It also includes a small screen to show which height and mode you have the vacuum set at (auto vs. manual modes, hard floor vs 2 carpet heights). It’s not always as convenient as using your thumb to change the height via a handle switch, but you’ll never accidentally hit it either. 7) Carpet settings do a great job on carpet. Auto and hard floor settings do great on hard floors. Carpet mode especially works well, sucking up leftover stuff immediately after I ran my older Shark over the same floor. I noticed my allergy symptoms decrease after vacuuming my carpeted floors. 8) I dig the Odor Neutralizer. It comes with one cartridge and is adjustable in intensity. The included scent smells like fabric softener. No, it doesn’t have to be used if you don’t like the scent. I’m hoping for a citrus scented refill. Nice bonus! Bad 1) The ‘auto’ surface detector does a good job figuring out what surface you’re on (carpet vs. hard floor), but it wants to default to the lower power/suction mode even when on carpet. Most carpet requires the higher suction levels to do a good job. Plus, the low vs high suction modes switch on and off constantly when on carpet and rugs, making it really annoying to use. In the end, I just started manually selecting the carpet mode when I was on carpet. This mode defaults to the higher suction, so no other adjustment was necessary to do a good job. 2) The power cord is very stiff for a vacuum cord, almost feels plastic-y. Hopefully this will work itself out, but it’s currently 10x as stiff as my old vacuum’s cord. Weird thing to complain about, I know, but it can be hard to work with if it gets tangled. 3) When vacuuming under something, like a recliner or a end table, the vacuum will stop with even light pressure on the top of the vacuum head. I posted a video of this happening under an end table, but it’s also done this with my recliner and bookshelf. Requires a power cycle to get it back up and running. 4) Generic included tools. You get a duster device (that is pretty good, actually), but then a crevice tool and a bristled brush head. I would gladly give up the two later heads for a power-type head for the hose…something that I can use to deep clean bed spreads or cloth chairs. 5) Speaking of hose…it’s too short. It may claim 6 feet, but good luck actually stretching it that far. At about 4 feet, it’s so taut that the vacuum falls over when you pull anymore. I figured this out when vacuuming window blinds. I had to eventually get a step ladder to use for the vacuum to prevent the stretching from pulling the vacuum into my leg. 6) The vacuum is really powerful, but sometimes that’s not a great thing. If you have a lot of thin, lightweight rugs in your home, you’ll want to move those out of the way when using this guy. It will suck up the rug and make you power cycle to resume the chore. 7) It has a huge dirt bin, but it claims ‘max fill’ is at about 20% capacity. See picture. Overall, I feel like the Shark Detect Pro gets the basics right: Great power, easily maneuverable, long cord. Some of the technology incorporated in the vacuum is hit and miss though, so I wouldn’t buy the vacuum for the tech. However, that tech is likely what makes the vacuum pricey at $400. Not sure the value is there at that price. If your home is mostly done in hard floors, the tech works well enough to splurge for the vacuum at this price. If you have mostly carpet, wait for a sale.
