I'm coming from the very practical everyday use hands free LG Tone 900. I was in the market for a pair if great sounding headphones for pleasure, the Sony MDR-1000x are that pair. Wireless and wired with great battery life. I use them with my phone, my VR headset for 3D sound, and my TV for surround sound. High price point but worth it. Others ask why I would spend as much, I let them use the headset and they understand, then I turn on noise canceling and they're 'wowed.' on my LG Tone, I have to adjust the equalizer for some songs that crackle, does not happen with these on those same songs, I can go crazy with the equalizer. I recommend these to anyone who loves to zone out and enjoy music. BTW, I know these are marketed to those who ride planes for the noise canceling, I don't ride planes; these are for anyone.

Have Bose and Sennheiser wireless and noise cancellation. Bose is the best of the class with an unique sound signature, while Sennheiser has a more "natural" sound signature with good noise canceling - yet the headband can be uncomfortable, there is not padding.
Therefore, when Best Buy had these on sale I wanted to compare them with Bose and Sennheiser. Needless to say, I sold the Sennheiser and put away the Bose. The Sony sound is best for my style and the noise cancellation equals, and maybe bests the Bose.
The earcup controls for your device (iPad Pro) works wonderfully, though needs some practice to be perfect. Battery life is as stated, so no complaints there for me. I would recommend these for those who enjoy the Sony sound and need top of the line noise cancellation. Cheers.

I expect to be traveling more by plane and wanted noise canceling headphones. My first experience with them was trying Bose in their store, and was amazed at how well they work. Through online review searches, I found some complaints with the quality of Bose (on/off switches that stopped working), and several different reviewers (purportedly independent techie sites) all gave the nod to Sony as equal in noise canceling and better at the sound quality. Sony was also $50 cheaper. They are simply amazing. Noise canceling is excellent, sound quality is fabulous and they announce to you when you power on or off, turn noise canceling on or off, or want to check the battery level. You can change sound level or tracks by a swipe on the side of the right earphone, and you can cover the right earphone with your hand to mute whatever is playing and hear (picked up by a microphone and played thru the headset) what is 'outside' that you want to hear. Very enjoyable and high quality.

I've had my 1000X headphones for well over a month now and I've used them on cross-country flights, walking next to a freeway, and just relaxing at home and in every case I can't imagine a better way to enjoy my music. They are very comfortable, even with my large-ish ears. I don't feel the need to get them off my head even after five hours on a plane. I didn't think the touch controls for volume and track control would be useful but Sony proved me wrong, it has become very intuitive to just double-tap the ear cup to pause the music or just cup your hand over it to hear the world around you. The sound quality smokes ANYTHING in its class and you'd need to leave the world of wireless behind to find some comparable.
If you like to be out and about with your music and you don't want wires getting in your way this is a must listen.

I love these headphones. When I'm on the train I can tune out the world. When I'm at work and I need to concentrate I can tune out the world. The noise cancelling is amazing, the sound quality is great, and they are very comfy. The battery lasts a long time as well. Well done Sony.

I am a big fan of Sony headphones. I have purchased a couple of their wired and Bluetooth noise canceling phones from Costco. It was a good balance between cost, quality, sound and noise canceling abilities. I was hesitant to make the $400 investment on what seemed to be the state of the art sound quality, noise canceling and touch sensitivity features. I'm so glad I bought this over the Bose which appears to be slightly better with Noise canceling feature but the sound quality is not as good as the Sony. Bose works out of the box and should satisfy most people. But the Sony has lots of bells and whistles to satisfy the inquisitive minds but requires a lot of patience with tweaking out the best quality sound.
Pros:
Amazing sound quality
Adaptive noise canceling
Touch Sensitive Panel
Excellent Battery life
Cons:
Bluetooth issues - Inability to connect to multiple devices.
- Difficulty in changing Bluetooth to a different device
Earcup Pads are not as supple or comfortable as Bose

I walked into the Best Buy store intending to get the Bose QC35. I started chatting with one of the guys in the Magnolia area and asked if he had anything better as the Bose sound manipulated. Since I wanted over the ear noise cancelling & Bluetooth to travel with my iPhone 7 Plus, my choices were limited. He showed me the Sony. The sound quality is significantly better than the QC35s, I've yet to run out of battery on any of my trips, and the gesture controls are very convenient. My only complaint is that they are a little heavy, so I have to move them around every now and then or the top of my head hurts. Overall, very pleased though.
If I'm plugged in, I'll still use my Shure SE535s. They are fantastic, and these Sony's are much closer to that level than the Bose.

I mainly use this to cut out the ambient noise in the office when I'm trying to focus. The noise canceling in these cans is really good! They sound very good - clear highs and mids, and the bass isn't thumping, but not weak either.
The battery lasts a few days (I haven't timed listening time) with regular use, and it is very comfortable to wear. I'd highly recommend it.

I specifically bought these headphones to use while cutting the grass with a 23hp zero turn lawn mower. I've used the headphones each week and the results are spectacular. I no longer have to turn the volume all the way up to hear my music and drone out the noise of the lawn mower. Now I can listen to my music at the volume I choose to. I would recommend these headphones. In fact, I would purchase these over the newer version if your looking to save some money. The newer version just seemed to update some of the user interface options.

These headphones are awesome. The sound quality is very good. It’s certainly not home theater quality but still impressive. They’re lightweight, comfortable and hold a charge for a relatively long time.
For the right price, they’re the best on the market.

I went BestBuy to purchase Bose QC35. Unfortunately, QC35’s noise cancelling put too much pressure on my ear drums; I believe it is something to do with individuals. So, I went ahead and purchased Sony 1000x. Here is what I like, and don’t like about this Sony headphone.
*** Pro ***
- Head support is covered with synthetic leather instead of micro filter cloth like QC35. So, I don’t have worry about soaking with hair creams over times.
- If I cover the right ear cap, it instantly stops the noise cancelling, and boosts the ambient sound.
- When I’m on the phone, I could choose different ambient sound option so that I can hear my voice.
*** Cons ***
- I’m not a fun of touch control. If I accidentally touch it, it could change sound track.
- A little bit heavy, and not as comfortable as QC35.
All and all, the pros out weight the cons, and I’m happy with the purchase of Sony 1000x.

I've been in the market for a while not for a nice over the ear headphones, after many reviews and hours on YouTube I went with these.
NOISE CANCELING: I bought these right before a vacation to Florida, I will say the noise canceling and the ability to set it to ambient so you can hear the flight attendants and people near you if you want I awesome! I even used the noise canceling with no music to sleep a few nights when it was loud where I was staying!
BATTERY LIFE: is just like they said around 20 hours with no issue and charge time was a little over an hour as I recall.
SOUND: Sound was great on all ranges crisp clear, really nice, BUT For $420(with state tax) I do not feel like these perform any better than say a mid-high end skull candy or even the Bose QC35 which is $50 cheaper or Sony 950N1's. Also I do like some rap/hip-hop/EDM style music and I feel as if these headphones lacked the more potent bass sensation I was looking for.
PROS:
Clear and Crisp throughout the sound range
Great Battery life, and can be used with supplied cable when dead.
Great Noise Canceling
CONS:
Bass wasn't very punchy
In the end I believe most people that purchase these will be happy, and would recommend if you aren't a big bass head like myself.

Bought these for wedding gift for my wife. Then liked them so much I got one for me.
The noise cancellation is excellent, we have used them travelling on airplanes, etc, and you cannot hear babies crying around us, or the noise of the plane.
They are extremely comfortable to wear for long periods of time, the longest I have worn them straight is 6hrs
I am by no means an audiophile, but I do like good music. And I have compared them to other headphones, and my opinion is these are by far superior to others I have tried.
I do wear them while exercising, which they do work well. However, my head shape is more oval, and they are a bit loose; so be aware of that for yogi's who frequent the downward dog position. Also, when raising your arm above the head, could cause the music to cut out due to the feature of cupping the earpiece to have a conversation. Just something to think about. .

These are better than my sennheiser studio monitors by far. Never used the app to adjust the NC and ambient noise but at stock settings they are great. Hear around you, hear your music. They apparently don't cancel noise out as good as the bose quiet comforts but who cares if they sound better have several microphones for noise around you to be heard when you want it, and they have a super long lasting battery for listening times beyond what you would use. Also, unless you're listening to these headphones at a concert venue for some odd reason during a concert than you won't be hearing anything around your. Go for these, not the Bose. The price point is justifiable given all that these can do. But you can also get better sounding headphones with that much money; keep in mind that they won't be noise cancelling and will also not have ambient noise hearing and listening when you want it.

I have a home theater system that cost a bit over $4000, not including the cost of the 65" TV. That's $4000 for audio, these headphones easily match the audio performance of the main system, plus with a $20 Bluetooth dongle I can use them with my desktop PC, and using the Bluetooth on my smart phone I can use them with my phone. Probably one the best valued tech upgrades I've ever made.
