Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent sound quality, ease of use, and Dolby Atmos capabilities of the 1155W 7.2-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver. Many also appreciate the receiver's power and straightforward setup process. While some users noted the unit can get warm during operation and that the menu system could be improved, the positive feedback on sound and ease of use outweighs these concerns for most buyers. The price point is also frequently cited as a positive aspect.

THIS SONY AVR IS UPGRADING A SONY 1050. THE SOUND IS OF A MUCH FULLER, ROUNDED VIDEO STYLE SOUND REPRODUCTION. THE ATMOS IS WORTH THE WAIT TO BE ADDED TO THIS LINE OF AVRS. HARD TO FIND WHEN I WAS BUYING THIS ONE. OPEN BOX SMALL DENT IN THE ROOF STRAIGHTENED IT MYSELF IT HAD NEVER BEEN NEVER UNWRAPPED. MY THIRD UNIT AND ALL THREE ARE RUNNING.

This is my third Sony receiver, and though I have liked them all, this is by far the best. Controls and setup are intuitive, well organized and accessible to even a novice at surround. Great guidance in menu's and the Theater Surround sound I get is amazing even for a guy who wears hearing aids. For the money, you will be hard pressed to get a better unit.

This is a great receiver with Chromecast built in. The labelled HDMI inputs match about any device you can attach to it. Has and audio and HDMI zone 2 output. Sound is great. Compatible with 4K video. One quirk is that it is an FM receiver but not AM. Having said that, you can use Chromecast to listen to most AM stations from your phone.

This receiver was the perfect edition to my home theater system. It is extremely user friendly so setup was a breeze. I also recently purchased the Sony - 65" Class A8H Series OLED 4K UHD Smart Android TV. so this receiver was obviously highly compatible with this TV. The work great together and the sound it delivers is outstanding.

I bought this to replace a pioneer receiver that had switching issues between devices. Hookup was easy. Visual interface is great. This receiver has 2 “phantom” speakers that truly give great surround sound. You can place them evenly around the room or closer to the rear speakers. I was skeptical of this at first but they work great. In addition, I will purchase 2 additional speakers for true ATMOS effects.

Fine 4K 2-zone A/V receiver for the money

I have a home theater set up and I was upgrading my TV to 4K, so I decided to upgrade my A/V receiver to be able to easily switch between 4K sources (which due to the lack of 4K content, probably won't really be an issue for a few more years!) I wanted independent 2 zone control (meaning 2 sources can be handled independently) so my kids can watch TV while I listen to music on my deck. The Sony offers this (as does Yamaha) but they BOTH require programming a button on the remote to accomplish this, which is a pain (my OLD Yamaha offered simple, direct control of both zones, a better solution!) Anyway, the Sony does all that is was advertised to do, and it works fine. My only complaint is that when I turn it on, there is a rather loud "clunk", like a relay closing, that is very annoying! The sound is amplified by the metal receiver enclosure or something (and my receiver is behind a glass door in an A/V cabinet). It wasn't annoying enough to return the unit, I don't think it is a defect, just a cheap component that should be a lot quieter!

My last receiver had some issues and I reluctantly purchased this receiver. It ending up being a treat. The audio quality was noticeably better than my previous receiver. I was impressed with the menus. My one gripe is, I can’t tell at any given moment what the receiver is decoding the audio as. The displays only reads the “channel” it’s on, tv, dcd, etc.

Sound quality paired with the Elac Debut 2.0 series is amazing. The interface is relatively easy to use, and the speaker calibration works pretty well, I would adjust it slightly to balance out the different seating positions though. Runs a little warm as it stays on even in standby unless you turn off the Bluetooth wake up feature and standby pass through. Overall highly satisfied.

This is a great receiver. I love the good-looking UI and the intuitive way the receiver interacts with my TV and other A/V equipment. Our family room is not very big and it's rectangular in shape, with the A/V equipment in one of the corners; I had to drop four speakers (2 surround, 2 rear) from the ceiling because running them through the walls was not a reasonable option; even so, the receiver optimized everything for 7.1 surround sound and it sounds great. The kids and I have watched a couple of Blu-Rays recently and the sound is superb. It feels like you're IN the movie. The purely audio experience is excellent, too. You can get 5.1 surround sound from a Google Chromecast (video) if you plug it into one of HDMI ports on the back of the receiver (5.1 is a limitation of the Chromecast device, not the receiver - the receiver still plays sound through all 7.1 speakers, just in a 5.1 kind of way); the sound is much better than the 2-channels of sound I was getting when it was plugged directly into one of the TV HDMI inputs with digital audio out to my old receiver. We love that Google Chromecast Audio is built into the receiver. We've added the receiver to our "Home Group" and now the whole house shakes when the kids start their dance parties. I even broke out my old Sony 5-disc CD/DVD player and listened to some old albums on CD. Everything sounds great.

I'm about ready to buy a hubbed harmony remote for 500 bones. I've got 6 remotes right now and a harmony 780? Last of the it hubless ones. Haven't set it up to this reciever, so I only have an opinion on what it's like trying to have Mr Sony auto pickup HDMI's arc'ing. And well even arc is 50/50. More than likely I have to switch my tv output to optical. Optical totally disconnected it won't pick up arc (I've got 30+HDMI cables and it makes no difference how much or what they are including bi directional or not). It sounds great. Nice not to have to use Arduino amps to conjure up 7 our more channels. Although I have yet to get 7.2 just 7.1 unless the other .1 is zone 2. All and all I suppose I should just say it off Denon(always be my favorite with Onkyo), Samsung, Onkyo, pioneer, 5.1 Sonys, and finally Yamaha, I've never had to turn a single page of a manual, but I think that's what it's needed for this. Two 8” Yamaha mains with 4" tweeters, 2 3" insane some random brand 1 contained unit 250wattsrms center, and Sony bookshelves for the rest side from ceiling and they're in ported rca boxes

This receiver has it all, Dolby Atmos, 4k passthrough, spotify and google built in, wifi capable, and it's nice and sleek. I bought a couple of USB fans and put them on top to keep the unit cool as it does generate a bit of heat even when it's turned off. I've been using it for over a year now and I don't have any complaints.

Total soundholic, here. I've owned and experienced plenty of amps/receivers. This Sony, right here, is not only one of the best-sounding I've ever encountered, but it's outright the EASIEST to set up and use. So simple and intuitive, and that plus the great sound and affordable price makes it the best one I've ever owned.

I bought this to replace an older Sony unit because I needed more HDMI inputs. It would have been cheaper to just get an HDMI switch but this was an excuse to get more power and all the latest features and technology.
