6 Month Review
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this 65" TV in March 2025. I have had it approximately 6 months and I am thoroughly happy with my decision. I almost swapped it for a Samsung OLED but I'm glad I didn't. I replaced an older 40" Samsung smart tv that I have had for about 8 yrs but used Roku as the interface. It's still going strong and has been moved to my bedroom. This new Sony is Full Array which is the step below OLED and mini LED but I can say is as close to an OLED as you can get. The picture difference between them is minimal and it has blown the older tv out of the water as far as picture quality. I don't use Roku with this unit. The Google interface is good. I have had a few quirks occur now and then, but they are few and far between. This TV is very bright as compared to a lot of OLED models. So much so that I adjusted it down just a bit. I have very light sensitive eyes and white backgrounds especially at night bothered me. After the adjustment it was fine. If you have a bright room during the day, this TV will work great. I didn't find the auto ambient light feature worked well enough to bring down the brightness enough for my taste so hence the brightness adjustment. There are tons of adjustments on this TV which can be daunting to some but I'm a photography buff and very picky. I recommend you google the preferred settings for this unit as a starting point which are available online from techie reviewers if you are having trouble getting it like you want, then adjust from there. I played around a lot experimenting but now rarely touch it. The picture is stunning. The color is rich (Sony is known for their color processing) and rivals OLED and is an older, more proven technology with not as much concern for you news/sports watchers with respect to the banners at the bottom of the screen burning in. There are a few motion and moire issures but from what I have read, these are also present on many OLEDs as well. The moire is an effect that causes a twinkling in some patterns with tiny graphic lines. Think of a shirt with small tight herringbone type patterns. I have gotten used to it and is well worth it as the overall picture is so good. The sound is not as good as my old 40" but I run my setup through a Pioneer AV receiver with Klipsch tower speakers anyway. I would recommend a soundbar if you don't have an AV setup. I do like being able to run the tv speaker as a center simultaneously. This also allows me to switch my receiver to the radio using my receiver remote if I am watching/listening to two different broadcasts. Think of watching football while listening to the radio announcers broadcasting the same game. Many sports folks like to listen to their local college announcers on radio while watching the game. Go Dawgs! Just turn down the TV volume and you are set or you can switch between each audio at will. The over the air channel reception is light years beyond my older TV using the same flat digital antenna I used on my older unit. I attribute this to the atsc 3.0 tuner which is the latest version. Some other TVs in this price range did not have this upgrade. It allows over the air reception of higher quality as local channels begin to upgrade their broadcasts in the higher quality "NextGen" formats of 4k and soon to come 8K. As far as Dolby Vision (DV), etc. goes, I pay for very few streaming services to keep costs down so the premium services that broadcast these formats are of less of a concern of mine, though this TV does offer this feature. I have watched a movie in DV format and I thought it was worse than the standard HDR10. The buzz is that DV will be the format of choice going forward over Samsung's HDR10 and HDR10+. Samsung currently does not support DV so if this matters to you, go with Sony. It's a battle akin to Sony Beta vs VHR that occurred years ago. I originally was looking for a 55" replacement and needed to ditch the old armoire that was limited to a 40" max. I did some measuring and even cut two templates from velum paper to tape on my living room wall to see which size would work best. The 65" was only 100.00 more so I splurged and I'm glad I did. Having larger text at my age is a plus. As far as connectivity is concerned, I was frustrated at st that this TV would not connect to the internet. I am fairly tech savy and after calling the Geeks which was of no help (they only could offer the basics which I had already tried) , Sony and eventually my cable company I finally found the culprit. The cable guy suggested that I check my wireless modem settings. Once I dove into it on my PC, I found that the new IP address for the TV showed "blocked." Two clicks and it was fixed. It had nothing to do with this TV. Thanks to Alex at Best Buy in McDonough, Ga. for his help. He was a Samsung guru but was fine with me going with the Sony and understood my preferences. I don't think you can go wrong with this TV. My viewing experience has definitely been elevated.

SonyX90L is a step above the rest in it's class
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony X90L offers impressive performance and it’s great value for money and perfect for a huge variety of spaces. If versatility is what you’re after, the Sony X90L offers it in abundance. Sony TV’s are notoriously pricey, I've had 4 in total, but the X90L is a surefire way of accessing premium performance with an increased screen size at a much more affordable price point. Admittedly, it doesn't have the cinematic performance of OLED or the brightness of miniLED(not a huge fan personally), but the X90L stands up to those premium models and justifies that you don't necessarily need all of that. This TV is living proof that sometimes value for money and solid performance are just as difficult to beat. So, for those looking for a bright TV that’s versatile for movies, TV, and gaming, this is a PERFECT option to have on your shortlist, and you’ll struggle to find much better out there. Sony for yeats has been offering impressive performance and sitting in the middle of their lineup, the X90L beats all of its competitors. I highly recommend this TV, and at 65in, there aren't many out there in it's range that can compete with all the features and operating system.

Posted .Thank you for this absolutely outstanding and detailed review, ErikL!
We are thrilled to hear that you find the XR65X90L to be such an impressive performer and an exceptional value for money. Your deep appreciation for its versatility—making it perfect for movies, TV, and gaming—is a wonderful validation of our design goals for this model.
It's especially rewarding to hear that even as a seasoned Sony customer (with four TVs!), you recognize the X90L as a powerful entry point to premium performance, proving that you don't always need the absolute top-tier technology to achieve a truly brilliant picture. We designed the Cognitive Processor XR™ to deliver that solid, competitive performance you described, and we appreciate you highlighting its standing against other models in the market.
Thank you again for your incredible loyalty and for the strong recommendation. We're proud to have the XR65X90L as the centerpiece of your entertainment space!

Great for PS5 Gamers
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The color and vibrancy of the TV is great for the price point. It's quite beautiful and big for a beginner TV as well. If you're a big fan of Google products it comes with Google TV installed so you can link your Google account and it links up whatever subscription you have under that address. Love that. Also if you have a PS5 like me and my partner do, it has a specific HDMI for the HDR setting for your PS5 and will also detect, turn itself on, and switch the HDMI to the PS5 when the PS5 is powered on. So not only is your gaming going to be beautiful it's going to be so convenient and seamless. I've been enjoying Death Stranding 2 with my partner on this TV and the visuals just do not disappoint. You just have to see it for yourself honestly. OLEDs are still way better and just fantastic to view but again, for it's price the quality just cannot be beat.

Very Happy Customer
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Our old TV was looking like every scene was filmed at night with a bad filter. We started looking for replacements online first, looking for the best prices. My husband and decided on a few models and went to Best Buy and 2 other locations. Best Buy was the only place that has sales people to ask questions and that actually had answers. We had not originally planned on the Sony but after viewing it in the store and talking to the salesman we started to lean that way. We did our due diligence and looked up other reviews and we were blown away by the quality and the reviews. We purchased our 65" Sony TV and we have not been sorry one moment since! Yes it is bigger than we originally wanted, but we had the space for it. Yes, it was slightly higher than we originally planned to spend but the difference in price is negligible compared to the value of what we received. The picture quality, the color quality and the ease of use would have me recommending this to everyone. We had 3 people we talked to at Best Buy. Each one agreed that this was one of the best they have and one of the best brands that they carry. Our last TV was over 15 years old. We hope this one last just as long or longer. Absolutely not sorry we bought it!!!!

Very impressed!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just purchased 3 65-inch X90L TVs on Black Friday, 2023. The image of this LED/LCD panel is impressive. I am coming off the Sony X900H 65-inch panel I purchased from BestBuy back in 2021. The image of the X90L is head and shoulders above the X900. The X90L has a slimmer body than the 900H and it is thinner. It has a maximum of *85 dimming zones compared to the 900H which has 30 zones according to the RTings.com review (It might be thinner than the 900H but it is definitely heavier,) The image does not require a lot of adjustment either in my opinion. It is so life-like, you could almost sunbathe in most sunlight scenes. The only two things I dislike about it is the Sony Logo, it's off to the left. It should be centered. My other complaint is the small remote with the hotkeys and numeral keypad removed. You have to fish through sub-menus to get through basic functions which is unnecessary. I upgraded remotes, I bought the metal remotes with backlit numeral keys with the convenience of the hotkeys. The clicky haptics on the metal remote is satisfying to use.

Great TV!! At a good price!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV looks awesome!! Color is great. Picture is great. Got this for my other living room. Already have a LG C1 OLED. And I think this TV looks nicer. The colors are amazing. I like the interface of the software. Netflix/prime video/ect.. , all easy to set up. Also i like how there is different stand height according to if you use a soundbar or not. At $1000 price point, this has to be the best Tav at its price. First sony i ever owned. And im glad i got it. Only negative, im going to need a soundbar. Sound is not that great. Normal TV sound is fine, but when watching a movie music is super loud and can barely hear the talking.

Once again a Sony came through
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Without a doubt this is the best television I have ever owned. I am blown away by how crystal clear the picture is. And this is before I get a 4k box from Verizon. The depth of color is truly amazing. If I have any knock on this TV it would have to be the initial setup. I had a problem with the picture and audio sync. It was off by less than a second which isn't catastrophic but it is annoying. Thankfully I have a son who is a thousand times more teçh savvy than I'll ever be. I'd like to thank a young man who assisted me in the store when I was looking around. He wasn't an employee at the Newport News store but he was a Dept manager at the Williamsburg store. Not sure why he was in Newport News that day but I'm truly grateful he was. Kalique, I greatly appreciate all of your knowledge and assistance that day.

Better quality than expected
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I think the video is great. I already had a sound bar and subwoofer so the audio is amazing. The only thing that I haven’t figured out is how to find my remote. There’s supposed to be a way to do that and I receive an error message saying that “the remote control in use is not supported” which is odd because this remote came with the tv. I lose my remote every other day so I resort to using my phone as the remote until the “non-supported” remote is found. Other than that I sometimes sleep on the couch just to enjoy the large screen and fantastic audio. I should have purchased the 75.”

Amazing picture
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Couldn't be happier with this TV. The picture is absolutely amazing. The pics I posted for this review are from Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. I took the pics while the movie was playing, not paused. The true horsepower and beauty of this TV can't really be appreciated until you watch something in DolbyVision or IMAX Enhanced. I'm telling you it will knock your socks off. I also have an XBOX Series X hooked up to this TV, and once you change the the settings in the XBOX to HDR10 and DolbyVision, the difference is unreal. The only complaint I have about this TV is the sound quality. It's not terrible, but it's not great, either. Just so-so. The sound shouldn't be a dealbreaker for you, though. If you're hesitating to buy this TV, just STOP IT AND BUY THIS TV! I promise you will not be disappointed.
