Customers are saying
Customers consistently note the nature sounds to be a great feature that helps them get to sleep. The compact size of the clock radio is also well-received, with customers appreciating its space-saving design. However, there are some concerns about the display being hard to read at night and the brightness level even at the medium setting. Some customers also find the instructions to be more complicated than expected.

Compact nice unit

Expensive for what it does
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this specifically because I wanted something to make noises at night to help me sleep (ocean, rain, etc) and this was the closest thing to that on the shelf at my local Best Buy. The clock does what I needed, however the volume is very low. The only noise that I can hear over my floor fan is the ocean waves noise (which is the best for sleeping anyway imho). The blue tint light makes a weak, if soft-on-the-eyes nightlight and is easily turned off and on. I don't use any of the other functions so won't comment on them.

Great features for daytime use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unfortunately, I purchased this clock radio for night time use - like most of you, I'm at work during the day. During the day, it's a fine clock radio - good features, pretty good sound quality and a very punctual alarm. The problem is, I bought this so I can see the time at night - as you can tell by the many pictures online, this clock radio does not light the numerals on the screen, but rather lights the entire background and leaves the numbers a different color. What that means to all of us that sleep at night is a 2" by 6" block of blue light that illuminates your entire room. Really good as a night light, but really bad if you like a dark room. Even with a dimming option, this clock radio is too bright to be used at night. I returned it after one night and bought an LG clock radio with 4" illuminated numerals - ahhh, my room is dark again and I can now sleep - until the alarm gets me going again.

Over-Engineered
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Elegantly engineered, it can do many marvelous things... but the simplest task - setting the alarm - is something you do NOT want to attempt for the first time just before turning in for the night. While wide awake, CAREFULLY read the instructions before attempting to set the alarm - there are 209 lines of instructions on the large, fold-out instruction sheet just for setting the alarm. The display is another issue...

Tunes in distant stations!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have poor FM radio reception in our bathroom and this digital tuning radio pulls in the stations crystal clear. It is slim and takes up very little real estate on the counter. I am really impressed with this radio!

Bad sounds for a sound machine
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love the size and material the clock is made from, but the nature sounds were bad. The waves have a seagull cry that repeats every 10 seconds and the rain sounds like radio static to me. Plus all of the sound samples are short so it is easy to notice when the sample starts over. Also, the lowest setting on the display was too bright, but then I can't read the numbers if I turn off the backlight.

Not a good value for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This alarm clock is not what I expected from Sony, first the price I paid nearly 50 dollars with tax for this alarm clock and it is not worth it. For example the display is bright blue with the numbers blacked out, in other words the whole display shines this bright blue then so you can see the time they darken the numbers. This is backwards of the way most alarm clocks work,it makes the display so bright that I cannot sleep at night (also makes display hard too read !!)and even on dim it is too bright for me so I wind up turning the display off. Also the nature sounds repeat themselves in a 3 second loop so it is not like listening to a nature sound CD, this repeats so quickly you can pick up on it right away,it reminds me of when an old fashioned record player used to get stuck. It does have a 3.5mm aux input so you can play virtually any MP3 player thru it, but it only has one speaker and sound quality is not real good. It has a good antenna and digital FM tuner also comes with a AM loop antenna so if you still enjoy AM radio it should pick up most stations.

Great Size, Great Display features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned this alarm clock for about 3 months. The compact size is the most appealing attribute to me. I also like the display how it shows the temperature and which nature sound is on. It also has an auxiliary input. I do think the overall sound could be louder, but its not bad. I wouldn't recommend this alarm clock to those that need a very, very loud alarm to get up in the morning.

Great clock radio
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I saw this clock radio in a hotel in Las Vegas and wanted to buy it, I did research online when I got home and found it at Best Buy. I do find the instructions confusing but I am glad that I bought it.

THIS CLOCK RADIO IS OK.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I PURCHASED THIS SONY CLOCK RADIO BECAUSE OF THE GOOD NAME OF SONY AND THE FEATURES THAT IT OFFERS. HERE ARE THE PROS: THE RADIO IS COMPACT SO IT FITS NICELY ON YOUR NIGHT STAND. THE RADIO HAS A BATTERY BACK UP. THE RADIO HAS TWO ALARMS. IT IS EASY TO PROGRAM THE CLOCK AND RADIO. THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE DISPLAY CAN BE ADJUSTED. HERE ARE THE CONS: THE RADIO ONLY HAS ONE SPEAKER AND THE SOUND STINKS. THE BUTTONS FOR THE RADIO STATION PRESETS, TO TURN THE RADIO ON/OFF ARE ALL THE SAME SO WHEN YOU'RE NOT AWAKE IT'S HAD TO FIGURE OUT WHICH BUTTON TURNS OFF THE ALARM. IT WOULD BE BETTER IF THE BUTTONS WERE EITHER DIFFERENT SHAPES OR SIZES TO DISTINGUISH THE DIFFENT FUNCTIONS OR IF THE BUTTONS LIGHTED UP. OVERALL THE CLOCK RADIO IS OK . THE PRICE IS A LITTLE HIGH AS WELL.

Very good
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I found this easy to set up and program. I like that it is small and really like the nature sounds. Sound quality could be better but I did not pay that much for it so I was not expecting Bose quality. Overall it was a good purchase.

just the gift he wanted
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband had requested a small radio that fit on a counter top that had a large digital display. This radio is perfect. He can see it clearly, has great sound and isn't too big. The price was great too!

Bad choice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to replace another nature sounds alarm clock that had broken. I liked the compact size and as far as the alarm functionality goes, it works well. Now the bad....the back light is blue and you only have 2 brightness choices. My prior clock had an orange back light that had a dimmer so you could adjust the brightness. This one does not and the blue back light is way too bright in a dark room so I opted to turn it off. The other bad point is the sound quality. Compared to my prior clock, the nature sounds are extremely poor recordings. They aren't as clear as my prior clock. I paid about the same price for my previous clock and it was a much better quality product all around so I was expecting the same quality, but this clock falls way short.

ok but way way way to bright!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice feature. Easy set up but the display is way to bright. Lights up the whole room even in dim mode. Too bad because if it was not for the display I would keep it.

This Clock/Radio Settings Are Too Complicated
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It took me a long time to read the 4 pages of instructions (pages size "10" X 14 1/2")just to set the complicated settings. This was NOT an easy task. Nothing is simple or easy with setting the settings. Too many steps just to change "one" thing. And every time that you make "one" change to the settings the back screen goes blank and you have to wait several minutes before you can continue to program any of the settings. The instructions says, [quote] "after a while" and after several minutes of waiting it still doesn't happen. In the end, I couldn't get the month, day, year to stay on the back screen. I couldn't get the alarm to stay on the back screen. This clock radio needs to be redesigned with easier to use friendly functions.

Waste of money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this as a gift and will be returning it. Programming is a pain, it is convoluted and the screen is hard to read. Make a mistake and it is back to square one. Choosing an alarm sound is even more frustrating because instructions say A B or C but you finally figure out it is radio, buzzer, or nature on the left side of screen. The screen itself is hard to read, especially at night. The radio reception is very, very poor even with the antenna. But the absolute worse part is the alarm buzzer makes a sound (even with highest volume) softer than an oral thermometer. I can barely hear it when I am wide awake, much less asleep. Shame on Sony for this piece of inferior equipment

traded it in on a real table radio from Best Buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wanted a small radio w/ presets & audio-in. Those & nature sounds are easy (though Rain is just static to my ears). Didn't need or try the sleep & alarm stuff: directions = over half the manual, just get an alarm clock or wake up to the weather. No use for AM or a room temp sensor. OK sound from a small speaker, needs a 2nd one at the other end except there's another version with a time projector there. Just loud enough for a small kitchen with the water running. See my review elsewhere of the iHome full-size radio I returned this for.

Compact with many options, Poor sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This radio is nice if you want to be able to turn off the light at night and it has many options, (multiple alarms, different background sounds, audio input, preset stations) but the sound quality is pretty tinny. Fine for a wakeup radio but not a good one for listening too all day unles you listen to talk radio.

It's an alarm clock
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This clock was chosen because it is one of the few that still offers AM/FM frequencies. In addition many clocks are specifically iPod compatible and not a feature that is of interest. This is replacing an older and larger stereo alarm click with a CD player. Not a huge fan of Sony but it had the features of interest and the price was reasonable. It only has one speaker so if great sound and stereo is high on the option list then this is not for you. It offers sounds, typical alarm tone(s) and AM/FM radio. It also measures room temperature which is a nice add-on and seems accurate. I honestly would prefer a better sounding stereo model but are difficult to find unless it is iPhone/iPod centered.

Cheap build quality
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is ultra cheap, very flimsy, has cheesy switches and buttons and a huge pain to program. As stated on the box the date was set but the correct day of the week wasn't. Wish I hadn't recycled the box or it would be back on the shelf as an open box deal for the next poor guy who thought Sony was a name you could rely on. I will pay better attention and try before I buy in store next time.Spend the $50 on a cheaper brand name with better build quality.
