After having a DSLR for the last 9 years, I was wanting something new with higher resolution. My choice for a new DSLR was way over my current budget would allow ($1500). So I decided to go back to a point & shoot and chose the HX400 because 1, Sony is what I've been using and am very satisfied with the products. 2, my daughter has a HX200 and I really liked the capabilities of her camera. And 3, I feel that at $350 on sale, this was a lot of camera for that price. So far I am very pleased. Love the WiFi and ability to use my phone as a wireless remote. I've even been 25 or 30 feet from the camera and remained connected. It will be great for taking family pictures. Still learning features and what all I can do with it but that's going to be half the fun.

I bought the HX400v model. Its been a fantastic camera. I have taken brilliant outdoor photos, as well as great photos of my kids. I specifically got this camera for aviation photography. From airshows, to airports, the Sony can pick airplanes out of the sky in great detail. Enough detail to read tail numbers perfectly. My favorite features are WiFi, and the super zoom. You can send photos directly to your phone on the spot. Download the easy to use Sony app, then your camera and phone sync up fast. For the price, I highly recommend.

Usually I used to carry some of my DSLR bodies and lenses for small trips or occasional events. This camera replaces all of that in a simple design, weight and performance for the money. The quality of the photos is excellent due to the Carl Zeiss lens (not included in other model from the competition). That gives this camera the advantage and performance needed for a great picture. Outdoor photography: SUPER (for the average photographer). Of course, if I was going to capture some cheetah hunt on some African safari I will have use something else like an A7 or similar but for the all day, semi pro, to have the advantage of carrying only the necessary equipment, feeling free, this camera is a great choice. Ok, indoor: that is a 50/50 answer and I explain: you first need to understand that if you are not going to be the weeding photographer or sport photographer for the event, you only need to catch that especial moment as the spectator for the event. The quality of the photos in manual mode (the one I use 99% of the time) depending on the illumination inside the dome (if it is a sport stadium) or a basketball court, will depend on when to change from Manual to Superior Auto. I used this camera on a religious event and I was able to catch from one side of the coliseum to the other side of the coliseum (about a 100 feet’s) with good quality, very good pictures. The video was of a very acceptable quality for the distance, lens, camera body (I was asking so much but filled the expectation). It is very easy to transfer photos and video using the Wi-Fi connection (moving photos to your phone; first you need to install in you phone the Play Memories App from the App Store – it is free). For the average photographer and for the money this camera brings all she/he will need. As said before, if you are covering the event and like greater quality pictures you should look to a different camera like a DLSR in the range of $900.00 or more and some quality lens (about $2,000) and the gear and so on. If you only want to have a great photo, carry a small bag and also enjoy the party, this is the camera, you won’t regret it. Be sure to by a spare battery. The first one lasted about 4 hours a lot of pictures with 4 clips of a bout 7 minutes each. Then change the battery for the other remaining 2 hours of the event I was covering. As said, great pictures for up load in a PC, Internet, print, also print to a big 8 x 11 without loosing quality. Great camera!

I cannot take good pictures but this camera helps me to be a better photographer.
The 50x zoon is great. I took a picture of the moon FREE HAND. it turns out pretty good. The camera took several pictures of the moon and re-compose them into one which I call it cheating. The craters are visible without magnifying much on my laptop. The other pictures are sharp and exposed just right.
The Firework program is not that great. Maybe I don't know the camera well enough. I did not have any pictures to bragg about. The night portrait program works well. it cuts down the blue tint from the sky to virtually nothing. The colors are true.
The battery ran out on me once. I am considering to buy a spare.
It will be great if Sony or Best Buy can make some small pouches which can be attached to the strap to carry small items like spare lenses and USB cables.

My wife and i were going on a cruise to Alaska and I wanted to get a 1080 video, digital SLR. This Sony was on sale and had great specs after previously looking at Nikon, Pentax, etc.
Video is one of the best videos I have ever seen, truly amazing with great color. Was disappointed in the zoom at first, because some pics were blurry.
However, I came to realize it was my unsteady hand that caused the blur. Excellent night shots of the moon, seeing great detail.
Fun camera to use, easy to focus with auto-focus or manually. Get a high-end, large SD card as your photos are high resolution.
Thanks Sony, my first camera from you and I'm impressed.

I'm not a professional photographer, just a regular person who enjoys taking pictures of beautiful scenery. The zoom on this camera is unbelievable! I took it to NYC and caught really great pictures of the Statue of Liberty from the Staten Island ferry. I zoomed right to her face! The best part about the zoom is that it comes with the camera; it's not an additional $1k lens attachment. I also love that the lcd screen folds out so you can still see it even if you change the angle. I really haven't used it much but I'm certainly very pleased.

As someone who has shot with SLR cameras for the past 50+ years I wanted a camera for birding and was impressed with the 24 to 1200 mm lens. It is awesome for shooting birds in trees but not as good on flying birds or moving targets. I guess I just need more practice. The zoom is slow but the pictures are sharp. I have gotten many compliments on the pics I put on Facebook. Over all I am very pleased with my camera.

I love this CAMERA!!! Best one i have ever owned so far in my life. I wish I had it sooner. I am not a professional but I have been taking photos for years and I love take them. There are so many setting that i am still learning the camera but I have enjoyed the pics I have taken with it so far. I just wish I knew how to get the exposure to process faster because I miss pics because it takes so long to reset after taking a photo.

Had a 300 and loved it. This one has some problem with refocusing after taking a photo and the time between photos is too long for me. Missed some quick shots because of the wait. Great camera and hope I figure out the focus program and how to leave the viewfinder onthe eye all the time rather than the screen.

I have been using Canon products for more than 10 years. My most recent Canon was a 7D MarkII with a Sigma zoom lens. My favorite subjects besides my grandchildren are birds, or any wildlife. I decided I wanted/needed a point and shoot for convenience. After much reading and looking and talking with others....I chose this Sony product. Long story short...I had invested A LOT of money and my shots were mediocre. First day out with this Sony point and shoot I captured pin-sharp photos of birds like I never had with the Canon products. Without a doubt this Sony point and shoot is a dream to handle. FYI...recovery between shots is slower than the Canon, and low-light is an issue. However, the Sony brings a more consistent and pleasant result with each photo shoot!

Wonderful camera-next best thing to a DSLR. I have a DSLR, and my Sony HX 400 takes photos that are just as good. The zoom is terrific and comes in handy especially at sporting events.

I purchased the camera because it would fulfill all that I wanted. I specifically wanted the Zeiss lens. I've have great luck with the Sony with the Zeiss lens. They take everything from stills to fast action, i.e.; racing. I am extremely happy as the zoom was fantastic. Took pictures of the moon and was able to bring in the moon so that it looked like I was standing next to it. Excellent.

This camera is packed with more features then I care to mention. I'm not even sure if I will ever use them all. It takes excellent photos, zoom to macro. It's easy to use manually, or auto. The only drawback, and it is a big one, is that dust eventually gets inside and collects on the lens. Since the lens is not removeable, it cannot be cleaned. This will eventually render the camera unusable. I've gone through two of these so far. Kudos to Best Buy, and their warranty. If Sony could make it so the lens could at least be removed to clean, it would be a perfect set-up for a beginner, or a photographer with a little more experience that doesn't want the baggage of too many lenses, and the waste of time, changing them. For this one big reason, I would hesitate to recommend. I have attached some of my photos taken with this camera to show what it can do. (Copywrite) Unfortunately, without means to clean the lens, it is a disposable camera. I wish I could give it a better review.

When I was in the store shopping for a office desk, I noticed it in the display case. When I returned the next day to purchase it, I was glad to see that it hadn't been sold yet. I just wish it came with a case like my first Sony -DSC-HX400V I bought at the Sony store on Madison Avenue some 4 years ago.
It affords me the opportunity to bring my AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHER skills to a new level.

I purchased this camera for a trip to Tennessee. The camera has great auto modes, yet a lot of manual control when needed. The 50x's digital zoom is amazing! I've taken photos of the moon and the craters are crystal clear! Battery life is awesome as well. Very happy with this camera!
