Sometimes it works and other times, it's a drag. I was expecting something better I guess. Hopefully, there's an update or something to make this thing better.

    Nifty gadget

Some people have been hating on this thing but I think it does its job. Remote play over wifi hasn't given much grief (it works about 4 times out of 5). I think it benefits people who have the Vita more although not all games are compatible. It would've been nice if Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon apps were on it but I already have a Roku so it's not such a big deal for me.

    Lag

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Useless for remote play. Lag make games unplayable

I strictly bought this for the remote play feature as I figured its better than moving the PS4 to another room. The lag on the PS TV is about a second which makes playing games like NBA 2K16 unplayable. For example, I shoot a jump shot and every time get called for traveling due to the lag. Any games that require a good timed reaction, which is about 90% of video games, will not be playable via the remote play feature due to this lag. The wifi signal in my home is great and the PS TV shows all bars highlighted for the wifi signal but I still get this annoying lag. Packing this up and returning it to Best Buy. Very disappointed!

A PS console with many functions!

I play many of the PS Vita games that I own on the PS TV - they look fantastic on television! It's very compact which is a plus. You can also stream PS4 game play although a very fast internet connection and WIFI network is recommended for smooth game play.

Do NOT get your hopes up for streaming.

Heed my and many others warnings about the playstation TV. Do NOT purchase this as an adequate alternative to streaming to another tv from your ps4 as it does not work adequately for most game types. I would recommend this only for playing digital psn vita/psv games full screen. And i truly wanted this to work as advertised. 5g would have been the ticket.

    Great Device But Poor Support

    Posted .

The device itself is amazing if "unlocked" correctly. The PSTV is now discontinued in the USA. However! If you have a PS4 and want to play in your room, you can get one of these and use remote play with it. This is probably the best and most logical way to use this device. 4 stars since it proves to be capable but fails to deliver it due to a failing support system from Sony. If the support for this device picks up pace, this is a true competitor for other STBs in the market.

Not good as a second PS4

The PS TV does a decent job at being a console for Vita games. Don't expect quality if you plan to use it as a second PS4 via remote play. The picture quality is very poor and the lag is unbearable, even with the strongest internet connection.

Great product for streaming PS4 to other rooms in your house. OK product for PS Vita because of the limited library.

PSTV is lacking in several areas

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The PSTV is a problematic system and it is not really an alternative to a PS3/4. The games catalog is limited to PS1/PSP PSN download titles and VITA carts and downloads. The PSP games aren't filtered like they are on an actual VITA and look blocky and low res on an HDTV. More importantly, the PSTV lacks Netflix and Youtube support which is completely unacceptable for a set-top box. You also need a PS3/4 controller to use the system and I would highly recommend buying a Vita memory card as the onboard memory might not even be enough for a single PSP game.

Very nifty and portable device for Vita games

I really like the PS TV system to play my vita games. It plays them on the TV with pretty good quality. It's not PS4 quality but it's actually very nice and a cheaper alternative to the vita that's actually better than it in some ways. The portability of it is awesome. It can literally fit in your pocket, it's super small, like a small notepad for example, or 1.5x the size of a post-it. Additionally, it's pretty durable and you don't really need to protect a screen or anything of the sort. No real downsides to it, it's a good substitute to the Vita handheld. Plays all of the most popular games on Vita so I have no complaints about the restricted selection. The only complaint I guess is touchscreen components are a pain to use, but you get used to it.

Great system! You need top notch Wifi or you won't have great quality, same goes if you have a PS Vita and try to remote play. Wifi is the key. Played GTA V for 2 hours streaming and it was flawless. Also played Advanced Warfare and no lag at all. I'm impressed. Didn't hurt that it was deal of the day for 59.99

    Realize what you are getting

If you're trying to get something to steam your PS4, make sure both are on wired connections else it won't run as smoothly as you'd like. If you're trying to use it as a Vita replacement, realize a lot of features are either missing or ineffective, such as Senran Kagura's dressing room, or a lot of games won't work because either the publisher didn't want to bother, such as is the case with Neptunia Rebirth 1, or is because the game relies heavily on touching, tilting or other features, such as Gravity Rush and Tearaway. Spend the extra money, get a vita.

The interface looks like something from 2004. It does what it advertises however. The shareplay situation could be a little better as well. I'm sure it works great when connected using a Cat 5.

It's pretty much a Vita for your tv at 720p. At the moment, its game library (vita games) it's pretty limited but hopefully with times, developers patch their games for compatibility. PS4 remote play is awesome too!

Sony hit a homerun with the idea but the hardware and interface could have been better for support of the nextgen.

If you want something that will play many (not all) Vita games and PSP games, this does the trick. However, be aware that it comes with a lot of limitations. First off, the picture is limited to 1080i or 720p. Games are not processed, simply scaled up to fit the screen, which results in very blocky pictures. It does work as advertised though and if that's all you need, this does the job just fine. PS4 streaming is not very good. I have a new router with all the letters behind it and the PSTV is hooked up by ethernet. Unfortunately, my PS4 is on WiFi, which results in dropped frames and network drops. This is the thing I bought it for mostly and since it doesn't do that well, I can't use it. One last thing: Despite the fact that the Vita has streaming from Netflix and other providers, it is not available on the PSTV. Don't count on this replacing an AppleTV or other streaming device. It may have the guts of a Vita, but Sony has decided to limit its capabilities in unexpected ways.
