Bad product, worse customer service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchase this product in July 2018 after reading great reviews, but it stopped working properly after about 2 months. I contacted Sony and after repeating the same troubleshooting I had done already, they sent me a paid return label to send them the unit and they would mail me a new one upon receipt. The replacement unit was received and had the same problem - on different TVs, the unit would have to be unhooked from the hdmi cable (not the power cable) in order to turn it back on, which did a manufactur reset each time. So I contacted Sony AGAIN and asked for a refund this time given there is clearly someone wrong here. They said no, that their warranty doesn't cover refunds. So I went through the process again to return the unit, wait for them to get it back then wait to be sent yet another replacement. I received that today October 16). It has no power cord or remote in the box. Was told once again that they don't issue refunds, so I demanded they overnight the missing parts as I think a month of dealing with this is enough. The best they can do is try to do 2nd day air. Fine. I asked them if those parts get here and this third unit doesn't work, will I have other options at that point. Not a positive response.

Missing critical component and over-size plug
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This product did not come with an HDMI cable or USB cable with which to connect it to the TV, forcing me to go back out and buy one. It also had a massive plug unit that blocks 1 and a half spaces on a power strip not including the one it draws power from, causing me to run out of power strip space 2 plugs early. One cannot get around this by using the last plug on the socket as it would be resting on the strip's off switch if you did.

Blu Ray functionality is fine

I've gone back to my Roku for streaming (I'm not going to bother with it on the Sony). The price is fine for just the dvd/blu ray.

Won't Boot

It gave good service, so I bought this player to replace it. It was bought May 8, 2016, and in late April this year, it wouldn't boot up when my wife and I decided to watch a video. We only use the unit once a week or so to watch a commercial DVD or Blu-Ray disc. I tried pressing buttons on the panel and buttons on the remote, but no dice - it wouldn't turn on. I unplugged it to take back to Best Buy but some personal situations caused a delay. When I plugged it back in, lo and behold... it worked. Then I was preparing to show a DVD to a bunch of people this past weekend, and again it wouldn't work. It was now out of warranty (less than two weeks), but I unplugged it to take to Best Buy. Again, I delayed. Again I plugged it back in and lo and behold, it worked again. I guess I'm out of luck as far as warranty goes, but maybe I can keep unplugging/plugging back in a few more times before it quits forever.

Sony's Fault

Many websites document Sony's insistence on routing your connection to Netflix through Sony servers. Imagine starting a Netflix movie only to have the streaming video cease 20 minutes into the movie. It happens ALL THE TIME with every Sony streaming device. Too late for me to return it but I am going to buy a Roku device or Firestick for my streaming video.

slow and blurry

Even turning it off using the remote takes about 30sec from button press until it turns off. Picture quality and color from the DVD player looks like 1950s Technicolor movies, ragged and thin. Everything else has better quality than this - the Xbox One, PS4, my elderly laptop. Netflix picture quality is better, but not as good as from my ten-year-old laptop. I was hoping to replace the laptop with this player, but was disappointed by the small selection of streaming apps and poor image quality. It turns out in the fine print that Amazon video isn't supported any more, though the box says it is supported. I've had good luck with Sony equipment before, this one is very disappointing.

It took 3 weeks to ship to Sony and get the new one back. The new one that I got broke a week and a half later. NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!!

easy setup, great picture but problems

I was impressed with the picture quality playing my Blu-ray home movies and the movies I saved on USB drive. Would have given it five stars except.....after one week and several uses it just "froze up" and would not respond either by manually pressing the buttons or by using the remote. I completely disconnected it and removed the batteries from the remote. After several hours I tried plugging it back in and it was still "frozen". Needless to say I put it in the box and returned it. I really wanted to give it a great review but you can see why I would not recommend it until the problem is solved.

Complete rubbish

Owned 30 days, use 2-3 times - now outside of return period and the thing is totally bricked. Assuming bricked because a Wifi update was corrupt - won't power up unless it is unplugged and plugged in again, just sits with green light on and on the Bluray screen, can't access menus, tray won't open and unresponsive to remote. Even changed batteries hoping it might help, it didn't. Search the Internet as this is a known issue since 2017. SONY should be embarrassed and I am amazed at the rating of this product.

Stay away from this one

We are currently boxing Up the third one to send it back. All units have had the same issue. They won't power off, won't bring up the menu, freeze on the menu, or the software won't update. Normally we've had great luck with Sony products. Save yourself a lot of headaches and don't buy this.
