This movie is pretty terrible. It rushing to fix all the things undone by the previous film while also trying to tell its own story and what your left with is too many stories and an unsatisfactory conclusion, but Palpatine is great. The 4K itself is top notch, and made this an easy option to complete my Star Wars 4K collection. Sound is great, especially in the finale. Picture quality and color is also great. I suggest turning the movie on and ignoring all the convulsed plots and just enjoy the sensory overload.

Having been a Star Wars devotee since the age of four, I've been exposed to both the positive and negative sides of fandom. Star Wars has been a lightning rod for much negativity since 2015's "The Force Awakens" released . . . as it was upon release of 1999's "The Phantom Menace." As they say in my other favourite Sci-Fi's vernacular . . . "This has all happened before . . . and it will happen again."
I love the quality of the steelbook and the artistic design of the piece. Kylo's crossguard saber is iconic - dare I say more so than Vader's own saber? I love the fact that he got the prime real estate on the front of the case!
The interior is beautiful and features the interior of the Falcon with the current SW lineup. Looks great.
As for the film itself, there was a LOT that JJ had to do in one film alone. I won't bash the House of Mouse, as that's the "cool" thing to do in fandom these days, but I will politely disagree with their original plan to have a different writer and director for each of the three sequel trilogy movies. I think the series would have been best served with a solid outline and mapping of story beats, plot lines, and character arcs over the three films BEFORE the first movie even began to film. I think that would have benefitted the series greatly . . . but we can't always get what we want, as hindsight is always 20/20.
There were powerful, great moments in each of the sequel films, and The Rise of Skywalker held it's own. From the igniting of Rey's own (yellow bladed) saber, to my own prediction from years prior about her being a descendent of Palpatine (I called the from her fighting style in TFA) and her taking the last name of Skywalker in honour of her Master (Masters (x2) in this case as both Luke and Leia trained her!), there were unexpected moments including the return of Harrison Ford for a scene, my much hoped for return of Wedge Antilles (YEAH!!!), and some nice call-backs to the original holy trilogy (Luke FINALLY raising his X-Wing from a submerged state on Ach-Two as opposed to being unable to do so on Degobah, for example.)
JJ Abrams had a LOT to do in one movie to wrap everything up the best as possible. As a fan of his since my first viewing of "Alias", "In JJ I trust" is a statement I always stand by. Though the Rise of Skywalker was not a perfect movie, I enjoyed it and, at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

I know a lot of Star Wars fans do not like the new movies. I will readily admit that they are not as good as the 3 originals that we all grew up with. I will also grant that the storyline seems rushed and has many holes, especially if you have been reading the books along the way. There is so much that Disney needs to cover. I hope their future endeavors of The Jedi and The Sith are more thought out. AFTER all of that that I just said, I like this movie. It is not as rushed as some of the others. Leia, Han and Luke will always be the standard bearers in the Franchise. Give the new guys a break. They have big shoes to fill and it is not their fault that the writers and directors fell short.

Good film, just suffered from trying to do too much in one movie. Many of the plot contrivances, were just that- pointless and dull. I won't spoil the ending other than to say that it seemed a bit weaksause to me.

Overall I liked the scale of the film, felt a lot more like a Star Wars movies then the previous 2. Really seemed like a reimagining of the original 3 than lots of original material. There was so much to draw on from the books over the last 30 years it would have been great to see some of that incorporated like Thrawn or the witches of Dathomir. Showed a lot of the power of the Sith through the whole series. Hopefully future movies will flesh out more of the details. Between Solo and Rogue One, I think they felt more like the original series than the last 3 in the new sequels.

It's Star Wars. Whats not to love??!! It's loaded with action, friendship, drama, etc. Even if you haven't seen any of the other movies leading up to this one, you need to watch this one at least once. I've heard some bad reviews, but I don't pay attention to most of that stuff. Some people try to pick apart movies fact by fact, instead of just enjoying it for what it is. Don't get me wrong, I may do it myself from time to time, but I try not to be that way. Why?! Because if you do every movie that way, then eventually nothing is gonna be good to you.

I'm a Star Wars fan. I thought The Last Jedi was a massive disappointment where the theme of the movie was "trying is stupid." This one attempted to bring a little hope back into the message. It was better. There was a lot that, upon first viewing, I could just enjoy the movie. After a second and third watching, there's a lot that makes absolutely zero sense, logic goes out the window, and they trust that you won't think about it too much. I still liked it and I thought it wrapped up the story well, but if you haven't watched the other ones, do not start here. The 4k version has really nice picture quality. I don't regret picking this up. It completes the collection, even if I would rank it towards the middle.

The Rise of Skywalker's 2160p/HDR UHD immediately fixes the most glaring Blu-ray weakness, light blacks behind the opening crawl and across the first shot. The familiar yellow text is a bit more subdued here but very effective in pop and over the inky star field. Black level improvements are also noted in chapter 13 when Kylo Ren, clad in black, telepathically communicates with Rey while standing in a bright white room. Both his costume and the star field through the porthole are much more deeply pronounced on the UHD, and it's also perhaps the best example of white balance betterment in the entire movie; this is a more pure, intense white compared to a flat, creamy color on the Blu-ray. The picture is by-and-large perfect. Color saturation and tonal extension are terrific, from densely colored natural green during Rey's training early in the film to the bleak grays that dominate much of the film's third act. 3PO's golden body is a more sublime, thoroughly saturated color. Lightsabers dazzle with newfound intensity over the Blu-ray and high yield luminance that allows the beams to leap off the screen as the most dominant tonal force in the movie, followed closely by hyperspace light and Palpatine's lightning. The image is not as bright as the Blu-ray, but it's more accurate with improved overall depth and nuance. It's very pleasing beginning to end.
Textural improvements are surprisingly not as dramatic. While grain is more natural and more flattering (though it's unproblematic on the Blu-ray) and overall image clarity and sharpness are improved, there's not a night-and-day difference here. The picture enjoys more thorough filmic stabilization accuracy as well as generally crisper and accurate details, but the improvements are more fine than they are far-reaching. Viewers will note improved clarity and steadiness to wear and tear on robots and Resistance fighters, more intimately revealing skin and hair elements on humans, and sharper environmental elements, ranging from sandy deserts to dense jungles, from the weathered Falcon interior to slick and smooth First Order bridges and meeting rooms. Make no mistake, the UHD improves on the Blu-ray's resolution limitations, but even at native 4K the differences are not dramatic, albeit vital in the big picture. Source and encode flaws are entirely absent when viewing from normal distances. This is the best way to watch The Rise of Skywalker at home.

I have been a fan of Star Wars all of my life. While the original movies hold a special place in my heart, I found the latest trilogy to be a bit of a disappointment. There's no doubt that the special effects are incredible and the movie moved a quick pace for its length, but so much of the plot didn't make much sense that it was hard to stay engaged. First there was little to no explanation how the Emperor returns from the dead and then the head-scratchers continued all the way until the weird ending. The movie was watchable, but not the ending that I had hoped for.

I had skipped this in theaters because, 1 the girl at the theater on opening day was extremely rude so I left, and 2 because after that I kept hearing how awful the movie was.
Little secret... Stop listening to the whiny loud people on the internet and don't let them stop you from stuff!
I waited until it was on disc and watched it at home. It's a good flick! Everyone always expects the bar to move up, but sometimes you just gotta accept the bar isn't going to move and enjoy it for what it is! It's a Star Wars movie, not some moving work of art that's going to change your life!

The best way to experience is in 4K and Atmos. While it’s a descent movie and ending to the 9 chapter trilogy, these last three movies don’t hold a candle to the stories told in chapters 4-7.

The Rise of Skywalker is the last in the series of 3 Star Wars trilogies. It was supposed to tie up the lose ends from the previous 8 other films. It does this but it left me wanting more. There are some great cameos, lots of fighting and an old story line. Really nothing new to get real excited about. Although the movie lacked in different areas, it didn't lack in special effects. The 4K version is spectacular! This is a great movie to show off your 4k A/V system. Other the than that, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi were better films.

Thinking back to Return of the Jedi with the end celebration in the Redwood-like trees and beautifully set sky and fires, I was hoping to see something like that for just the dramatic and beautiful effects that only a movie can bring. After a so-so story and some predictable scenes we get a hasty, poorly conceived ending that not only should have been much stronger and visually capturing out last views of this incredibly long journey, but one that anyone with creative talent should have been able to exceed, leaving us smiling and pleased. Not so with this. Many TV shows have much stronger endings, even without the big budget CGI possibilities. Really disappointing
