Purchased to replace an older, no longer supported external drive I use as backup for my laptop. My old case's power supply failed, would not provide starting power for the Seagate Barracuda drive within. The drive itself was fine, Needed a new power supply, and replacing the whole case and electronics made sense. This unit has a heavier supply which spins up the 'cuda fine. The case and stand aren't great; the cover is a thin, springy piece of sheet metal that holds its shape only by the tension of the screws securing it. The base is plastic; mine came brand new with stress cracks radiating from the screw holes. The assembler in the factory must have been new with power drivers! Internal frame and circuitry/connectors seem fine; unit is built for IDE and includes adaptors for SATA, not elegant but works well enough. Means I'll be able to swap the 'cuda out with a bargain SATA multi-terabyte drive some day. My old cast aluminum case was way better structurally, but this unit works. Install your drive, set it out of harm's way, and go about your business.

The geek squad recommended this product when my old desktop crashed and couldn't be be repaired due to XP being installed among other things. I had a lot of pictures and music saved as well as other important documents I didn't want to lose. When my order came in, Tyler with the geek squad explained how to use it and helped me retrieve everything I wanted to save. When I got home, I plugged it up to my new laptop and copied everything from my laptop to this device and moved everything that was on my desktop to my laptop. It was so easy! Tyler and Aaron of the Jonesboro store geek squad are awesome and have helped me with everything I have purchased.

Bought this to transfer information off of an old IDE drive. Connected up to the drive in just seconds. Got the information off. Then hooked up a newer SATA drive and am using as external storage. Cables connect and disconnect quickly, power connections easily changed. The drive works well. the blue lights are easy to see so I know if I left the drive powered on at the end of the day. Very satisfied!

This Hard drive enclosure is the cat's meow. Wished I would have saved my old hard drives from some even older PC's. After building my new PC I was concerned that I would not be able to recover information from the old PC that gave up the ghost. But the Star Tech Enclosure was the fix. It took me 10 mins to install. I was able to view the drive as if it were my old PC. Wow!!! Just wonderful. Love the cool look to it as well. With this handy device, you never have to worry about losing your stored info from failed PC's. Great cost, great device. Best money I have ever spent.

Purchased this enclosure to remove the data from a hard drive I was no longer able to access due to being an older IDE connection and all I now have are laptops. There are connections for both IDE and SATA drives along with the appropriate power connectors. I have been able to use this enclosure 2 additional times on computers that had catastrophic hardware failures but the hard drive was undamaged. I was able to extract necessary information and then reformat. When it is not used for troubleshooting, I have an old 1 TB drive in it that I use for extra backup and storage. Very handy, easy to use and a very safe way to access hard drives without any damage to any additional hardware. A simple USB 2 cable is all that is needed. Great product!

Used this product to reclaim my daughters old computer hard drive. We thought her pictures and music were no longer accessible when her computer was filled with viruses and wouldn't boot. Now, years later, took out her hard drive and installed in this case and ran Norton 360, cleaning lots of malware, etc. Removed unnecessary files and copied her pics and music to a small jumpdrive for a special Christmas present! Now, I can use her old hardrive in this case as additional memory space for my computer. Great, low cost solution! I can also swap in a SATA drive if I want to.

I have several of these external drive enclosures and plan to buy more. Good price, easy to set up, nice looking, works with both ATA and SATA drives.

This drive enclosure is good for adding a hard drive as secondary storage. However in order to install the drive you need to remove several screws through the stand base. I've owned other drive enclosures that were easier to assemble but for the price this unit works well.

Let me give my daughter all her old pictures and music without copying them to new computer. Very easy to setup & use. Excellent product.

I have been using this for a few months now. It looks very nice and it glows with the blue led lights under it but where the sata cable connects it broke really easily. It is a little tricky to fit a hard drive in it because the sata cable has to be placed perfectly but if you wont be changing the hard drive much that should not be a problem. In the picture I attached the plastic piece on the hard drive is supposed to be on the circuit board.

I am not one who is a computer specialist but this one looked like something I could handle. Except for a few minor snags all went well, what didn't was quickly solved with a call to the tech support. In a matter of minutes, the tech told me exactly what I did wrong, gave the steps to correct. The rest is history. Great buy and highly recommend this item to all.

Bought this case to transfer some data to a new computer and decided to keep it as an external hard drive. If I ever need to transfer info from another hard drive it would be incredibly easy to switch out!! Love it.

Excellent way to get some use out of the old hard drive when upgrading your computer.

This very simple to set up external drive enclosure was just what I needed to utilize a former computer hard drive as an external drive on my current computer.

I bought this product to transfer my files from my old computer's hard drive to my new one. Old system was XP and the new one is Windows 8. The Documents and Settings folder that would have all the files would not show up until I used it on my friend's computer that was Windows 7. I don't know if it was simply the difference between Windows 7 and 8 or if there were other factors, but it was frustrating I had to use another computer. Other than that the transfer was fine

I was very surprised how fast the shipment was.This enclosure has good ventilation and it only took me like 5 minutes to install my hard drive.

I needed it so I can use old hard drives that I still have to store things that I still need. Plus it gives me extra space on my hard drive that I'm using. Works good for me anyway.

I would purchase this again, it was easy to use and set-up. My computer recognized the box right away.
