This Compact Keyboard Changes the Game
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 is a 60% wired mechanical gaming keyboard that really packs a lot of tech and features into a compact form factor. This keyboard is perfect for those who are short on desk space or who need plenty of room for their mouse movements. The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 has OmniPoint 3.0 hypermagnetic Hall Effect switches, which are incredibly fast, boasting actuation speeds up to 20 times faster and response times 11 times quicker than previous models. With an actuation range from 0.1 millimeters to 4 millimeters, it offers gamers a serious advantage. SteelSeries touts this as the world's fastest keyboard and their arguably right about this. I was definitely excited to try it out and see if it lives up to all these promises, especially with all of the features. So, here are my first impressions. * Unboxing, Design & Build * When you open up the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 it's basic, eco-friendly packaging. The box is small, just like the keyboard, and there's very little plastic used, which is a nice touch. Inside, the keyboard is a matte black finish, along with a high-quality braided cable. This cable is detachable, which is a great feature because it means you can easily replace it if needed. It connects via USB-C to USB-A. One of the coolest design touches is the hidden keycap puller, which is tucked under a rubber flap on the underside of the keyboard. It's a really smart addition, ensuring that you never misplace it. The keyboard itself is really small, roughly a foot wide, and it sticks to the essentials. There's no number pad, no dedicated function keys, and no arrow cluster. This tiny layout frees up a lot of desk space, giving you more room for your mouse movements and fitting easily on a small desk. The build quality is top-notch. The keyboard has an aluminum top plate with a hard plastic bottom, giving it a solid feel with no flex or creaking. It's got a nice weight to it, so it stays firmly in place on your desk with the rubber feet and adjustable tilt legs. The keycaps are double-shot PBT with a textured matte finish, which helps with fingerprints, oil and wear over time. The legends on the keys are molded in, so they won't fade. Plus, the bottom row is a standard size, which means you can swap out the keycaps for a custom set if you want. The keyboard also features per-key RGB lighting with tons of customization options, especially if you use the SteelSeries PrismSync software, so you can really make it your own. One of the notable improvements in this Gen 3 model is the sound dampening. There's no rattling, no hollow sounds, and no key wobble. Each key press feels tight and precise, making it a really durable and high-quality build overall. * Specs/Features * As far as the technology in the SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3, the most impressive is definitely the OmniPoint 3.0 switches. These switches have fully adjustable actuation, allowing you to set the actuation point of each key anywhere between 0.1 to 4.0 mm. You can customize your keypress to your exact preference. For example, you can set your movement keys to actuate at a super light touch while keeping your typing keys at a deeper actuation point to avoid accidental presses. This level of customization is really easy to manage through the software and really changes how the keyboard feels depending on your settings. In terms of performance, according to SteelSeries these switches register key presses up to 20 times faster than traditional mechanical switches, with a response time of less than one millisecond. That means every key press feels instant, which is a huge advantage in fast-paced games. The Rapid Trigger feature is another cool feature, eliminating the standard reset lag on key presses. This means that as soon as you start to lift your finger, the key is ready to actuate again, making rapid, repeated key presses much easier. The keyboard also allows you to store up to five profiles, so you can switch between different setups easily. With the SteelSeries software, you can adjust everything from per-key actuation and Rapid Trigger sensitivity to RGB lighting effects. And thanks to the onboard memory, all your settings travel with the keyboard, so you won’t lose your customization if you switch devices. It also features N-key rollover and anti-ghosting, meaning that every key press is registered accurately, no matter how fast you game. * Software * The SteelSeries software gives a lot of flexibility to the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3. You can adjust the actuation of each key, set up custom key bindings, and even assign dual functions. The Prism section of the software gives you tons of preset effects, from simple colors to reactive lighting. Plus, there's a 3D aim trainer built right in, which is perfect for working on your FPS skills. Overall, the software just makes it really easy to personalize the keyboard to your specific gaming needs or a specific game. * Performance * One of the first things I noticed is just how quickly the keys respond. As someone who types pretty fast, around 70 words per minute, I felt like I could type even faster without any fatigue. The keys feel super responsive, and they kind of snap back quickly, so everything just feels really smooth and effortless. When I jumped into a game of Overwatch, it was immediately clear how much of a difference the fast actuation and responsiveness made. Every key press felt instant, and it kept up with all the rapid movements and quick reactions that a fast-paced game like that demands. Whether I was strafing or rapid-firing, the keyboard just kept up perfectly, and I didn’t notice any lag at all. It was just a really smooth experience. And even though it’s designed with gaming in mind, it’s also performs everyday typing well. The sound dampening is great too, so it’s not loud or clicky, which means I can use it late at night without worrying about making too much noise. Overall, it’s a high quality keyboard with tons of features and customization that help with long gaming sessions. * Pros * * Super compact * Switches are incredibly fast and fully adjustable * Endless customization options * Quiet and comfortable keys * App works well and offers a ton of features * Cons * * There’s a bit of a learning curve because of all the advanced features, so it would be great if there were some tutorials or guides to help casual gamers * 60% means there will be keys missing This is the kind of keyboard you just have to feel to notice the difference. Key performance, actuation and customization is exceptional. This keyboard is FAST! Highly Recommended for Gamers.

Great 60% Keyboard With All The Right Features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 is a great keyboard for competitive players. It sports a 60% design helping you stay comfortable and keep your mouse more in front of you instead of out to the side. Its got what it claims to be the fastest Hall Effect sensors on the market, Rapid Trigger / Rapid Tap switches, adjustable actuation and Double Shot PBT keycaps. Build Quality: The build quality of this keyboard is pretty good. The keys are constructed with double shot PBT and feel really good to type with. The base is sturdy with a little bit of weight which helps it from sliding around due to pressure from your hands. It has the legs underneath to allow you to raise the back up for more comfortable typing. There is also a cover underneath for storing a keycap removal tool. Finally, the USB-C cable (included is a braided, decent length cable) is detachable. My only complaint with the build quality is the RGB for the long keys doesn't fully illuminate through, so at the end of the word like "ENTER" the lower right side of it is dark. Another minor issue you may experience is if you have another USB-C, it might not plug in due to a raised lip. I have a cable from another keyboard I was using that I had to replace because it had a fatter lip on the connector which prevented it from seating. Performance: I had no performance issues with this keyboard. The Rapid Trigger/Rapid Tap worked really well. It also has a built in sensitivity sensor that will prevent accidental presses on neighboring keys. It doesn't deactivate them entirely, just raises the actuation level of those keys so it doesn't accidentally get triggered by a bump. The adjustable Hall Effect switches are really nice too. They allow you to adjust between 4mm and 0.1mm actuation so you can set the experience to just how you like. I personally set mine to 0.9 as the pressure needed to move these keys is relatively high compared to other keyboards. The Rapid Trigger and Hall Effect switches can really give you a competitive edge in competitive games like CS:GO doing quick peeks and whatnot. Software: The software for the most part is decent. There are lots of options in there for customizing the keyboard, from performance to lighting. Its very lightweight as well. It doesn't bog down your system or waste precious CPU cycles while its in the background. The interface is intuitive, so finding what you need is easy enough. It even has a built in aiming trainer (I haven't used it yet). One thing that I didn't like about it, that I still haven't figured out, is it can mess with the lighting on your keyboard. One example of this was with League of Legends. I was playing the game, using a set lighting profile, and out of nowhere certain keys that weren't really used were changing colors or turning off completely. The number keys at a couple points started all turning the same color (green, blue). I thought it was a gaming profile but I couldn't find it, nor did the lighting patterns make any sense. Closing the software completely fixed that. Typing Experience: I really love typing on this keyboard. The sound of the keys and the lower actuation distance makes it a breeze to type with. The sound of the keys has more of a hollow but thick thunk, though its hard to explain. Its not an obnoxiously loud keyboard nor is it high pitched. Its almost perfect in sound. Overall this is a very good keyboard for a competitive player. The Rapid Trigger/Hall Effect switches help to level the playing field with other competitive players, the typing experience while limited due to it form factor is great, and the ergonomics of the 60% design make your more comfortable while gaming.

Gaming at its finest
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First time using a mini or 60% keyboard *****PROS -Small form factor great for gaming -Customization -Solid Plastic Shell -USB C compatibility -Aluminum Top Plate -Great Feel Keycaps -Good Quite Switches ****CONS -Wired, non-wireless -[Opinion] Not necessarily the best for productivity As I mentioned earlier, this is my first time using a 60% form factor keyboard. I have owned most, if not all form factors but this one, and it is the best for gaming. For starters, in the box you get the keyboard, cable and some paperwork, I like that they keep it simple. Once plugged in, you have the option to download the software to access all the features. In the keyboard, one has the function button, and the shortcuts are labeled on the side of the keycaps. On press the OmniPoint switches feel great, at first the actuation point is a little too high so lowering it will help the keypresses register faster. There are other features like rapid trigger which helps with counter-strafing in Valorant and in COD. There are also other features like Protection Mode which reduces sensitivity in other keys not used while playing. Personally, I am an old head, and get used to not using many of the features keyboards usually offer. I usually set the default settings on keyboards and get used to it. All the previous are personal, and the features offered can enhance gameplay, especially in FPSs. I do like that the keystrokes are more quite, than blue and brown, even some red switches. Overall, I am happy and feel better while playing with the MINI GEN 3, but I will be completely honest, I do go back to my other keyboard with a keypad when I need productivity. If you are a gamer and want a keyboard strictly for gaming, I recommend you this keyboard.

Absolutely a Game Changer!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 60% Wired Mechanical OmniPoint Adjustable Gaming Keyboard with Rapid Tap is arguably a game-changer in the world of gaming keyboards. This keyboard is mini in size, but it is mighty and it is solidly built. Weighing in at about 1.5 pounds, this mini keyboard doesn't feel cheap or plasticky at all. At only 60% the size of a full-size keyboard, this takes up much less real estate in your gaming area but still has the 61 keys you need to do your best gaming. And you actually do have basically all of the rest of the keys available - the function keys, arrows, insert and delete, etc. as kind of a secondary layer on the keys when pressed in conjunction with the "SteelSeries" key. If you're going to use this keyboard for gaming and productivity, this feature comes in very handy for the productivity part. I am actually typing this review on the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3, and I'm managing to do everything I need to do. And in fact, my typing is very quick on this keyboard as well - it has a fantastic feel to the key press. I love the chiclet style keyboards and thought I was long over the mechanical keyboards but that evidently is not so. This particular keyboard as brought me back into loving mechanical keyboards! For connection, this has a detachable USB-C (to USB-A) cord included, which for me is a positive - you can use the one that's provided or use one of your own - choose the length that works best for you. This keyboard has a Key Cap Puller brilliantly located underneath the keyboard. So if you're having an issue with a particular key or you just want to change or personalize any keycaps, the puller is there in a little covered compartment. Based on the full size Apex Pro Gen 3, but only 60% of the size, SteelSeries claims it is the world's fastest keyboard, and it is fast. It is all based on what they call the "OmniPoint 3.0 adjustable HyperMagnetic switches" which leads to faster actuation and response times. You pretty much need to install the SteelSeries GG app to utilize most of this keyboard's features such as Rapid Trigger, Rapid Tap, Protection Mode and more. When you utilize Rapid Trigger, it basically eliminates the latency from the key-press. Your action will start when you press the key and stop when you lift your finger. It's actually really cool to use to help my characters stop on a dime so that I don't get killed quite as often! Protection Mode makes the keys around the one you are pressing less sensitive. This should stop "fat-fingering" - I sure wish I had this feature long ago! You are also able to use pre-set configurations that are all ready to go for certain games such as Valorant, Fortnite, or Minecraft. These can kick in as soon as you load one of those games. You are also able to edit those pre-sets to make them yours. Another thing in the GG software is the 3D Aim Trainer where it is fun to practice shooting in different situations at different difficulty levels. This is really helping me get my shooting more accurate. The SteelSeries Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 60% Wired Mechanical is a game changer for me for sure. The settings and adjustments to individual keys or the entire keyboard or a set of keys, pre-set gaming configurations, Rapid Tap, Rapid Trigger and Protection Mode, 3D Aim Trainer and more make this keyboard a sure-fire competitive gaming keyboard. I highly recommend this keyboard to anyone looking for a solid gaming keyboard. And it is compatible with Windows, macOS, Xbox and PlayStation.

Great solid gaming keyboard
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A great small-sized keyboard THE GOOD ~ Feels sturdy ~ Very responsive keys ~ Programmable ~ Colors ~ Heavy ~ USB-A to USB-C connection ~ Includes key puller ~ Can change switch distance ~ Quiet THE BAD ~ Nothing THE MEH (Could go either way) ~ Heavy OVERALL I generally prefer full keyboards with number pads, but I wanted to try a smaller keyboard to put on another computer build. The first thing you notice when you pull this out of the box is that it feels solid as steel. It's relatively heavy. To be honest, I think it weighs a little more than my full-sized keyboard in the pictures. Because of that weight, I doubt it will move much during intense gaming or typing. Every now and then, my main keyboard will shift little by little. The keys are very quiet. I chose my other keyboard because I like the clacking usually. But sometimes you want or need a silent keyboard. This one is as quiet as they come. You can be on the phone and typing without anyone knowing it. Travel distance and trigger time are short. It's very responsive. People playing first person shooters where lag and miliseconds can kill you will appreciate the rapid activation. On that note, you can change the switch travel distance from 4mm all the way down to 0.1mm. That means you could just about type by coughing on it (LOL). It comes with its own key puller too so you can make changes without fear of damaging your keyboard. You have to download the SteelCase GG program to change colors and stuff, but it is very simply to use. Like many other programmable keyboards, it comes with a variety of patterns and adjustable colors. The connection is USB-A to USB-C with a sturdy cord. I like this because it means if something happens, like a rotttweiler puppy chews your cord (it's happened, trust me), you can easily replace it. THE BIG QUESTION Would I recommend this keyboard? ABSOLUTELY! I would definitely recommend this to any person who is a gamer or types a lot, especially if they don't need a full 108-key keyboard. SteelCase has done an excellent job creating a keyboard geared specifically for gamers, but still fully functional for every day use.

Tiny, but really nice
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, this thing is so tiny. It's adorable. That said, really nice gaming keyboard for those in the market for a 60% one. I know some die hards need their wireless keyboards but this one performs very nicely and have had zero issues with it so far. Normally, I use a full size (100%) keyboard; both for gaming and productivity. Wanting a little change in the gaming setup, I opted for this 60% one so that I can keep both keyboards on my desk without taking up too much space and so that I can easily swap as needed. The keyboard itself is really tiny. Took a bit to get used to coming from a 100% size one but it's for gaming so I don't really need all the "extra" keys. There are a number of gaming profiles you can choose for this keyboard/layouts. Some of the more popular titles like COD, Fortnite, etc. Within the Steelseries app, you can select/customize these as needed. I think the RGB on this is a tad weak but that's a personal preference. Could be brighter is all I'm saying. But the key stroke customization is where it's at. With more and more keyboards these days, you get snappier, more customizable keys that feel great. Whether it be the rapid tap or rapid trigger setup you want, you can tailor the keys to operate how you want them to based on which keys are pressed, last key pressed and how hard you press the keys. For FPS games, which is what I mostly play, these are great in getting the extra millisecond drop in enemies.

Love It
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is exactly the keyboard I was looking for. Typing actually feels great on it. But of course you are not buying it for typing. The form factor is perfect for FPS games and the build quality is second to none. I love how the keyboard and its cable can be disconnected. This allows me to hot swap another usb-c keyboard (I also have a TKL version of this keyboard) for work/production. One thing I didn’t know is you don’t have the ~ key (by default anyway) on this keyboard, which might bother some people if you use that key often in game.
