I got it only because my old player didn't have HDMI. The remote may do better with fresh batteries.

You need to buy HDMI cable and use it connect to TV. Remote control should be better.

Does a good job displaying normal DVDs on my 43 inch 4K TV. Only goes up to 1080p, and you have to change the display settings each time you put in a disc or it auto changes to 480p. Make sure to have the remote handy and read the manual and it’ll work just fine. I spent some time messing around with the settings to customize to my liking, I would highly recommend this to someone who has a collection of DVDs and doesn’t want to spend big money on a Blu Ray player.

Pretty good for the price. Easy to set up and use. Feels light and cheap, but it is anything but.

No stranger to shopping for 'the best/lowest price' on tech items from this to building computers. Looked into the available reviews on BestBuy site, plus several found via BING search AND at the Sylvania site. All this to get information to form an opinion if "the price is right" for the item. All things considered, you offered a very good price for a device that has a "Howard Confidence to buy Rating" of about 85%. Which is very good for me and indicates an "I will buy this" trigger for me. Why? First, any manufacturer is going to give itself A+ ratings for their product. Second, people, being who we are, tend to exaggerate good performance/bad performance evaluations. Third, Sylvania is in my estimation a reasonably reliable builder of electronic devices. These are Christmas gifts for grandchildren. Christmas eve, we hooked them up and they didn't exhibit "noise, not reading DVD/CD media, track selection failure," or anything else mentioned in "negative reviews." In these two weeks following initial power up, the grands have said they are enjoying using these devices. This equates for me that my "Confidence to Buy Rating of 85%" is thus confirmed. Plus, being aware of warranty replacement options is a good idea. I have faith that these devices will perform as they should until a "newer" version is built.

I bought this DVD player for my elderly parents and set it up for them. It seems to play their DVDs well and the picture is clear as expected. To be fair, this is a fairly cheap device so the remote is pretty clunky and the buttons on the device face are not spectacular (or all that responsive to touch). If you are looking for an affordable and simple device for standard DVDs, check this one out. It is simple to set up and easy to use.
