I purchased a brand new unlocked iPhone from Best Buy. With this Bring Your Own Smartphone SIM Kit, I was able to lock my phone to the company I use with a quick 10 minute call to my phone service provider. Wish life was this easy for everything! Lol

Never knew BestBuy sells this kit for only $1.00. Purchase with hesitation but after insertion into an unlocked iPhone 8 and activated a $20 unlimited talk text and data plan from Tracfone, the service works as good as a contract wireless plan.

Best Buy has the tracfone bring your own smartphone SIM card kit you need to activate your old iPhone or other smartphone with prepaid tracfone plans. They now have 4G networks nationwide so the plans are very attractive. If you have minutes left over from an older tracfone they will transfer over and all purchases get triple minutes onto your "new" phone.
Best Buy makes the whole process easy with their in store online pick up. A good experience all around!

Easy Solution

This kit is an easy solution for those wanting to participate in Tracfone's BYOP program. No need to worry about what SIM card your phone uses. The box has standard, micro, and nano SIMs for both GSM (AT&T) and CDMA (Verizon) networks. Unused SIM cards may be used to activate additional phones. If they fit, of course.
Remember, you also need airtime to get online. The SIM only gets you access to a network.
Determine your network type and card size, then (carefully) punch the card out of the surrounding plastic.
Read the setup instructions for your network type, then read them again. The setup process is not difficult, but it demands that you follow the steps carefully.
The only difficulty I had was in getting a Windows Phone onto the AT&T network. Almost everything was automatically set correctly, but there was no Internet connection on the cellular service. (Voice was fine.)
If you encounter this, dig down into the SIM setting for "Internet APN" and "MMS APN". You can find help online, or try Tracfone's tech support.

Smart Phone Service for Less than $20 a Month

Mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) are the industry's best-kept secret. Companies like TracFone resell surplus airtime on the leading cellular networks, at a fraction of the cost and free of recurring monthly obligations.
Pop this SIM into your unlocked smart phone (works well with iPhone, not just Android phones), purchase airtime on the TracFone Web site (requires initial Internet access, of course), and you'll have affordable cell phone service tailored to your actual usage.
What differentiates TracFone is that you need not choose a recurring monthly plan. You can, if your usage remains the same every month, but you also have the option of strictly "paying as you go". The text messages, minutes of talk time, and megabytes of cellular data that you purchase are not for one month at a time. They carry over indefinitely, as long as you make some sort of purchase to keep the SIM active.
Data is by far the most expensive component of cell phone service. I recommend using iOS or Android settings to limit cellular data usage. For example, why pay a leading carrier for unlimited data, just so you can download software updates? Update at home, over WiFi! Do you really need your phone to check automatically for new e-mail messages every minute? Can you buy your favorite songs and sync them to your phone (storage capacity at a given price point doubles every year or two), instead of paying over and over again to stream them on the cell network?
Best of all, if you use GSM (this kit contains TracFone-branded SIMs for the nation's two leading GSM carriers, and for one of the two CDMA carriers), upgrading to a new phone requires no intervention from a carrier. Just pop this SIM out of your old phone and pop it into your new phone!
TracFone does have some limitations:
- TracFone-branded SIMs work only in the US. To make calls while traveling, buy a SIM in the foreign country.
- TracFone-branded SIMs allow receiving SMS text messages from foreign numbers, but not sending to foreign numbers. On an iPhone, iMessages to and from other Apple users all over the world will still work. On Android, use a third-party messaging app.
- TracFone has horrible customer service, all of which is outsourced to the Philippines. If you stick to buying airtime on the Web site, you'll never need to call. (Porting your phone number from another carrier occasionally requires calling in.)
- Support for WiFi calling is uncertain.
- There is no support for visual voicemail.

Faster than dealing with Tracfone

For a buck (the same price as on-line) you can have your Tracfone BYOP card immediately - works for me!
My only warning is about the Tracfone website - after you enter the SIM card number, the following screen has a field for the phone IMEI - DO NOT enter the actual IMEI for your phone! It will be prefilled with digits from the SIM card - leave those there. (This is for a GSM phone, it may be different for CDMA.) If I understand correctly, Tracfone registers the SIM card, not the phone.

This kit contains multiple sim cards. The phone I transferred to Tracfone was previously a prepaid Verizon phone. I used the sim card to fit my Verizon phone but still have sim cards to fit an Att phone or other carriers. The extra sim cards can also be passed along. Very good deal. I've been with Verizon for over 10 years and didn't want to pay $30 a month for a phone for my 10 year old. Tracfone's service has exceeded my expectations so I'm switching once my contract expires with Verizon.

Amazing for just $1.00 can enables Tracfone pre-paid use of latest 4G LTE phones on Verizon CDMA/SIM or AT&T CDMA/SIIM networks in the US. Plus can use international calls from same at lower cot than available through these network 2 yr. plans.
Packet contains standard/micro/nano SIM for Verizon or AT&T plus CDMA and network passwords for Verizon and AT&T. What a bargain.
1. Check first on Tracfone web that your new phone is compatible, need EMAI #.
2. Register online at Tracfone - I called tech to guide through steps.
3. Call Tracfone tech support for actual activation.
4. If you already have a Tracfone account, have that phone on while doing transfer of account. Tech. will explain patiently steps.
Very difficult to find out about above, Probably serious threat to standard expensive 2 yr plans of US phone companies.....

This SIM KIT is a must-buy for anyone who want to use prepaid cellphone plans provided by Tracfone. This sim kit is suitable for almost all the compatible phones on the market. It is very easy to use. What you need to do is just to insert it into your phone and contact TracFone customer service, activate your plan as instructed. It worked flawlessly. I would recommend it.

Easy setup. Package includes 3 sim cards to increase compatibility with your phone (T-mobile network, AT&T and/or Verizon Network). My phone was universally unlocked so I could have used any 3. So technically speaking, I believe I can use the other 2 sim cards on other phones?
Tracfone has been working great so far (I used the Sim for T-mobile network). I'm also able to use wifi calling.
The price of their phone plans is very inexpensive. Their website is easy to use as well.

I'm a very light cell phone user, and the TracFone plan meets my needs perfectly. For about $20 I get 3-months of service with 180 minutes of talk, 180 texts, and 180MB of data. If you run out, you can add on a block of data, talk, or text for very low rates. What is left over at the end of 3 months rolls over to the next renewal period. I used to pay more for a dumb-phone plan with just voice.

I bought this to use in a new Unlocked MOTOROLA G6. It's $1.09, which is money well spent as far as I'm concerned. Easy instructions. 5 minutes later my brand new unlocked smartphone was up & running, connected to Verizon antennas powering my Tracfone account! FYI it's actually free if you ask Tracfone to mail you a new SIM card, but instead of waiting a week for the SIM card to arrive in the mail, I was able to do it myself and all it cost me was $1.09. Yep. It's that easy, and it's that cheap.
