If your time is worth nothing Tracfone is for you!

I have been going round and round with Tracfone since 2/24/16 (now 4/9/16). Tracfone's website claimed my Verizon iPhone 5c was eligible and compatible with BYOP. I paid for the activation sim. Tracfone sent the wrong size. While trying to convince the rep that they sent the wrong sim and send me the right size one the rep insisted I also needed a network activation code which I then purchased. I received the code but still no sim. Another bout with customer no-service and found that the rep with whom I spent over an hour with last time did not bother to record my address. Finally received the correct sim and the phone seemed to work great. My previous minutes transferred fine, all was good. A few days later I found I could not access cellular data. After a week and maybe twenty hours with customer service a rep decided I needed a new sim card. I received the third sim and phone was working great, call, text, data, all working. Only problem was no one could see my minute/ text/ data balance. I could not check on phone or internet and customer service could not check it. I spent two weeks off and on clearing the phone, pushing profiles, checking settings etc. and being told "Wait 24 hrs", "Wait 24 hrs", "Wait 24 hrs", and then "We are escalating to a higher level", "We are escalating to a higher level", "We are escalating to th HIGHEST level". After two weeks a Rep tried manually adding time to my account or so he said and "look at that" I could check my balance but could no longer access cellular data. So now, after wasting in the neighborhood of 60 hours of my time they tell me that maybe the phone isn't compatible with Verizon and Tracfone. It worked with Verizon for the past two years. It worked with Tracfone except no one could check my account balance on the phone or off it. Now they want me to walk away empty handed. I have begged to be put in contact with someone that has authority to make this situation right. I have been given voice mail to a person who never calls back. I have been told I am being transferred to someone in "Corporate" only to be back with a agent that has no authority. I have a balance of over 6000 minutes. I have been lied to (we'll call you tomorrow, we'll connect you with an account executive etc, please hold for my supervisor (and after 20 min of hold the call is dropped)). My last offer for them was for them to send me a comparable phone that they could get to work ($49 on their site). They feel I'm owed nothing. I am not going away quietly.

Smart Phone Service for Less than $20 a Month

Mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) are the industry's best-kept secret. Companies like TracFone resell surplus airtime on the leading cellular networks, at a fraction of the cost and free of recurring monthly obligations. Pop this SIM into your unlocked smart phone (works well with iPhone, not just Android phones), purchase airtime on the TracFone Web site (requires initial Internet access, of course), and you'll have affordable cell phone service tailored to your actual usage. What differentiates TracFone is that you need not choose a recurring monthly plan. You can, if your usage remains the same every month, but you also have the option of strictly "paying as you go". The text messages, minutes of talk time, and megabytes of cellular data that you purchase are not for one month at a time. They carry over indefinitely, as long as you make some sort of purchase to keep the SIM active. Data is by far the most expensive component of cell phone service. I recommend using iOS or Android settings to limit cellular data usage. For example, why pay a leading carrier for unlimited data, just so you can download software updates? Update at home, over WiFi! Do you really need your phone to check automatically for new e-mail messages every minute? Can you buy your favorite songs and sync them to your phone (storage capacity at a given price point doubles every year or two), instead of paying over and over again to stream them on the cell network? Best of all, if you use GSM (this kit contains TracFone-branded SIMs for the nation's two leading GSM carriers, and for one of the two CDMA carriers), upgrading to a new phone requires no intervention from a carrier. Just pop this SIM out of your old phone and pop it into your new phone! TracFone does have some limitations: - TracFone-branded SIMs work only in the US. To make calls while traveling, buy a SIM in the foreign country. - TracFone-branded SIMs allow receiving SMS text messages from foreign numbers, but not sending to foreign numbers. On an iPhone, iMessages to and from other Apple users all over the world will still work. On Android, use a third-party messaging app. - TracFone has horrible customer service, all of which is outsourced to the Philippines. If you stick to buying airtime on the Web site, you'll never need to call. (Porting your phone number from another carrier occasionally requires calling in.) - Support for WiFi calling is uncertain. - There is no support for visual voicemail.

It's finally working now and I'm happy with the cheap phone service, but it was a pain to setup and I'll explain some of the issues I had. My ZTE valet tracfone I had for 3 years was painfully slow and I needed an upgrade, so I thought okay with this $1 activation kit I could then buy a used galaxy s5 on ebay and transfer my number/minutes. Easy right? I get my new phone in the mail and attempt to transfer the number to my new phone online and... the website is broken. There are some serious programming issues going on with the tracfone website which made it impossible to activate the sim card & phone on my own. Because the website is worthless I contact a live-chat helper through the contact us page and ask them to help me activate the card & transfer my old phone number/minutes. I gave them all the information they needed and they tell me to wait as they "check my account settings". The first attempt at activation completely failed and I waited as they tried again. The second attempt at activation allowed my phone to recognize the sim card, and I could see the transfered number in the phone settings but I couldn't make any calls, send any texts, or access the internet. After a bit of run around the live-chatter decided to gave up and gave me a reference ID for the chat log in case I decide to call later. So now I was completely without a phone because my old phone was deactivated and the new one didn't work. I really needed a phone for work tomorrow and I was desperately looking for a solution to the problem. I connected to my home wifi and downloaded the tracfone app on google play; when I opened it I noticed it detected my sim card and my deactivated phone, but the minutes/text/data was at 0. The live-chatter I spoke to told me my minutes would transfer over but I wondered if that was really the case. I went ahead and bought a $10 aircard through the app just to be sure and low and behold, calls worked, texting worked, 4g LTE internet worked. I finally had a fully functional phone with my old tracfone number. ================ Here's a short version for those who don't want to read all that. 1. Tracfone's website is broken and I had to contact a CSR. 2. CSR was wrong about the minutes/text/data transferring over between phones. 3. I lost all of minutes/text/data I had saved up and had to start over with a new air card. Service days did transfer over though. 4. I now have an affordable fully functional smart phone that I only have to pay less than $12 a month for. CHEAP.

    Mostly Easy Setup

OK I have an old 3g Iphone on Verizon that I wanted to give to my wife to replace her old flip phone on Tracfone. I read the reviews on the mini kit for bring your own phone. To me tracfone did not make it clear as to whether I could do this. I finally found some references in the reviews where someone had activated a 3g iphone. I pulled the trigger on the $1 kit. It was actually $1.48 They had to collect the 911 fee. I did not need any of the sim cards in the package. I did need the CDMA Network Access Code. I read the red START HERE paper and followed the instruction to go to TracFoneBYOP an register the phone. I entered the MEID number and the Network Access Code. All went well and I got a confirmation the phone was registered. I then proceeded to Activate your service instructions. I already have a TracFone account so did not need airtime card. I again entered the MEID number and the phone number of the account but thats where it stopped. Said activation failed call customer support. I called support and the person checked that the phone was registered and only needed activated and that he would be glad to help me with that. H e sent me a text message to my then current phone to verify identity and then proceeded. The only thing he did different was he used the IMEI instead of the MEID number. After he did his thing, I called *22890 and after about 20 seconds I got a recording saying congratulations my phone was activated. The rep then had me make a call and also pull a web page to verify that I had data. All went well. He checked and talk, text and data carried over and all is good. Some have said that theirs worked for a couple of days and then stopped. If this happens I will post but all are now working. Good luck with yours. Thanks Roger

    Easy Solution

This kit is an easy solution for those wanting to participate in Tracfone's BYOP program. No need to worry about what SIM card your phone uses. The box has standard, micro, and nano SIMs for both GSM (AT&T) and CDMA (Verizon) networks. Unused SIM cards may be used to activate additional phones. If they fit, of course. Remember, you also need airtime to get online. The SIM only gets you access to a network. Determine your network type and card size, then (carefully) punch the card out of the surrounding plastic. Read the setup instructions for your network type, then read them again. The setup process is not difficult, but it demands that you follow the steps carefully. The only difficulty I had was in getting a Windows Phone onto the AT&T network. Almost everything was automatically set correctly, but there was no Internet connection on the cellular service. (Voice was fine.) If you encounter this, dig down into the SIM setting for "Internet APN" and "MMS APN". You can find help online, or try Tracfone's tech support.

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7. Inserted correct SIM with no problem. Went to Tracfone web site and verified it would work in my area. Entered personal & phone information. Got to the point where Tracfone wanted me to personally register. Got all check marks and then entered e-mail address. Tracfone did not approve of e-mail address or password. Enter two more times again with no success. Tried another email address with same problem. Could not proceed. Called toll free number with automated questions. Pressed 0 to get a live voice. Automated system acknowledged that I did this but insisted I continue with automated questions and answers. I checked my phone and there was a toll free number listed on my phone screen because apparently the phone recognized that a SIM card had been inserted. To my surprise I got a live voice. However, it was a Verizon operator who listened because I guess it was their number that was stored in the phone. She got the Tracfone number for me which I already had and was very courteous. Because of this experience I decided to stay with Verizon. The next day I went to the Verizon store where they inserted a SIM card in my Samsung Galaxy S7 at no charge and transferred my phone number from my old phone. It was hassle free and took only a few minutes. Yes, it costs more but I felt more confortable dealing with Verizon than the automated system with Tracfone. Sometimes I think it is easier when you can talk to a live operator in the USA.

Amazing for just $1.00 can enables Tracfone pre-paid use of latest 4G LTE phones on Verizon CDMA/SIM or AT&T CDMA/SIIM networks in the US. Plus can use international calls from same at lower cot than available through these network 2 yr. plans. Packet contains standard/micro/nano SIM for Verizon or AT&T plus CDMA and network passwords for Verizon and AT&T. What a bargain. 1. Check first on Tracfone web that your new phone is compatible, need EMAI #. 2. Register online at Tracfone - I called tech to guide through steps. 3. Call Tracfone tech support for actual activation. 4. If you already have a Tracfone account, have that phone on while doing transfer of account. Tech. will explain patiently steps. Very difficult to find out about above, Probably serious threat to standard expensive 2 yr plans of US phone companies.....

I needed an adapter for a SIM card I had, it was a nano size SIM card from Verizon but the phone I bought needed a micro size SIM. I got the idea to purchase this pack and see if it came with these adapters or not. Best Buy carries a micro-nano adapter but it cost $10 and has to be ordered. I picked this up for $1 and it had adapters for nano, micro and regular. Salesman at cell phone desk wasn't much help, he said they didn't keep any adapters in the store and when I suggested buying this $1 kit for the adapter he said, "If you open it, you can't bring it back". I thanked him and reminded him it was a dollar, I wasn't bringing it back! But the main thing to take away is that it worked great as a cheap SIM card adapter.

Although I have no problems using this product, my only big complaint is that when I had to call up their tech support to use a different phone for my Tracfone account, the process took just about 2 hours to do. One person I spoke to from Tracfone before I bought this also told me that I needed to do extra things which I had the feeling that she didn't have a lot of experience. As much as I hate to say it, sometimes it is better to call up tech support at a company twice, and talk to two different people and see if they at least give you the same answers. Still, if you can put up with being on the phone for 2 hours to get this done after you've figured out exactly what you need to do, get it.

Purchased an iPhone 3 years ago & have been paying $40 monthly for service. I have USED a TOTAL of 17 hours in that 3 years ...as I only use phone for emergencies/occasional outings. Some months I don’t use at all. I have a landline at home. (So, basically, I’ve spent 2k for 17 hours of cell phone use in 3 years.) Love the phone I have & was able to keep it with a much lower plan by switching this SIM card out. It uses the same network, works EXACTLY the same. If I needed more minutes, I could buy them. Great plan for limited phone users, seniors who may use it for security/away from home emergencies, etc.

Tracfone is one of the more popular of América Móvil's prepaid wireless service. They offer access to the four nationwide networks. You are able to use the same towers as direct Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile customers for a fraction of the cost. One of the ways Tracfone is able to keep prices low, is by having lower grade customer support. For most customers, this isn't really a problem, but if you are a BYOP customer porting an existing number, expect a bit of pain. Also, this kit only includes SIMs for AT&T and Verizon. If you need T-Mobile or Sprint access, you will be run through a gauntlet of repeated questions, transfers to other clueless support people and the occasional bright helpful That said, after the pain all is well. Good service at a great price.

For a buck (the same price as on-line) you can have your Tracfone BYOP card immediately - works for me! My only warning is about the Tracfone website - after you enter the SIM card number, the following screen has a field for the phone IMEI - DO NOT enter the actual IMEI for your phone! It will be prefilled with digits from the SIM card - leave those there. (This is for a GSM phone, it may be different for CDMA.) If I understand correctly, Tracfone registers the SIM card, not the phone.

I opened the package, chose the CDMA based SIM card for a new Moto e4 plus unlocked smartphone and followed the online (TracFone) process for a fairly straightforward startup. I had already purchased a One month service plan as a trial, when I purchased this Activation Kit. Their WEB Site is workable, but may not be the most user friendly one around. The phone could work with either the CDMA or GSM network SIM cards. I chose CDMA since others I know get better reception on that network in some of the more remote areas we sometimes visit. I have not yet tried most of those areas since our visits are seasonally driven, but the reception in our metropolitan area is fine so far.

With more and more prepaid carriers charging $10+ for a nano sim + adapters that can break your phone, it's awesome that you can get all the sim sizes you might need in one box for just $1. I ported an iPhone 6S Plus and Nexus 5X. Both worked without having to mess with anything on the phones - just had to pop in the correct size sim for the carrier I wanted. I suggest initiating the port on a weekday; I initiated one port on a Friday afternoon and had to wait until Monday for it to complete. Tracfone is a great value if you are a light user. I love that I can buy airtime based on my average usage since everything rolls over. With traditional monthly plans you are either throwing money away every month or paying extra for overages.

I bought a tracfone byop sim and a 120 minute/ 90 service day airtime card on 1-27-2016. I ported my number to tracfone on the sim, adding the card (you HAVE to add a card to do this). My phone worked for an entire hour. I have not had a phone since. I have heard every excuse from their "customer service" reps. 1. number is still porting. 2. no service days on phone. 3. Wrong sim, please use your other sim WHAT?! there is no other sim. Useless customer service. Please, save yourself the money and time, avoid tracfone. Don't waste $45 dollars like I did

The price is cheap enough that if it doesn't work I can replace it again however, I don't want to waste my time til I know it's compatible.

This was relatively easy to set up, though it took a few days to transfer my phone number. I called customer service to see how that was going, and they were very courteous and got back to me quickly. It is average to take a few days to transfer a number, no matter which carrier you switch to. I now have Verizon service via Tracfone, and have had no problems with it. Good coverage, fast data service. This is a good deal for the casual user who just wants a back-up to their landline and cable data service. I have the bring-your-own-smartphone plan that is less than $20 a month for a decent amount of minutes and data. I can't complain.

Most cosumers do not know that Tracfone uses ATT, Verizon, and Sprint networks and is the 5th largest cell phone service provider with sister companies. Since my wife is not a data or talk hog a yearly Tracfone plan works great for her. We just were not happy with their cell phone choices. So, when we could buy a new iPhone 5s forv $149.95 and the activation kit on sale for $1 we upgraded her tracfone using the BYOP SIM kit and were able to stsy on the ATT network as a SIM option. Some US terriories are only supported as roaming by Verizon.

Best Buy has the tracfone bring your own smartphone SIM card kit you need to activate your old iPhone or other smartphone with prepaid tracfone plans. They now have 4G networks nationwide so the plans are very attractive. If you have minutes left over from an older tracfone they will transfer over and all purchases get triple minutes onto your "new" phone. Best Buy makes the whole process easy with their in store online pick up. A good experience all around!
