After some research, many of these products require a Hub to operate the peripheral pieces. The WEMO does not, and can operate independently on its own thru your phone or tablet. The WEMO also easily connects to our Amazon Echo for voice command control.

We have had issues syncing each one to the app. However once they are set up they are easy to use. It’s also very easy to set rules so that items turn on and off without having to remember

Bought the Belkin and couldn't be happier with it, you can control a light from anywhere wifi or cellular , set schedules, and it has an away mode where it will turn the lights on and off randomly. The app is extremely easy to use, if you're considering a smart plug go with Belkin!

We don't get up at the same time every morning, so a timer won't work. The coffee pot gets primed the night before with water and coffee, and it gets activated while we're getting up. I'm experimenting with wireless control of some blinds in a room. Just the thing to do either job.
