This is a really solid old-school beat-em-up fighting game. You punch your way across the screen solo [or with others in multiplayer] - and while the story is straightforward and lacking complexity, it is fun to see how it plays out. This isn't about twists-and-turns. You'll get classic and straightforward progress, going from easier to harder levels along the way. Recently, I've played similar games in the same genre like Streets of Rage 4, Absolum, and Double Dragon Gaiden. Those games are better in terms of game play complexity - with Absolum being a highlight in terms of complexity. But here in this game, you're playing with super iconic characters like Beta-Ray Bill, Cosmic Ghost Rider, Spider-Man, Captain America, Nova, Iron-Man, Venom, Phoenix, Wolverine, She-Hulk, and Rocket Racoon (among others). There are even two DLC characters you can buy (The Thing and Cyclops). I didn't buy the extra characters, but even so, the characters you get in the base game are a big reason to play this game. Marvel fans are definitely going to play through this game over-and-over with different characters just to experience the differences in how they feel and can be used. The characters are well represented in terms of their unique strengths and weaknesses, which is a significant reason why I'm recommending this game. The depth is in the differences between the characters - and for completionists, there are challenges to try to achieve in each level. This adds some incentive to replay levels - which is necessary for a good beat-em-up game. As you play, you earn experience - and while the upgrades are not huge or really all that noticeable, it is fun to learn how each character can be used to maximize their effectiveness. The fun is baked into the gameplay. You're not trying to get overpowered so much as trying to learn how to get better with a slightly different play style (*even through each character is going to feel fundamentally similar when you begin). Here's what I mean: the characters that can fly do have some benefits with the air born enemies - but there are weaknesses inherit to each character too. Some can block while others dodge - so when you pick your team of two characters that you will be switching between, you need to think about how you're going to swap between them as you play. There's some strategizing - and I imagine you can play the game without much strategy too, but the option is there to think about how you might want to get better as you play. The challenge is solid. I think the emphasis is on fun. Playing the game in co-op, we didn't have much of a problem on the standard/normal mode until the last levels. The final boss is challenging - but if you learn the pattern, you can do it (with some focus and decent timing). In terms of length - I will say that it could be longer - but what is here makes sense. You have options in terms of levels - so that definitely adds to the replay value. One or two levels stand out, like the Rainbow bridge section, and I wish there were more "wow" moments like that one - but what is here is good. The music is good too - but it does get drowned out by the chaos of the fighting action a bit. The graphics are solid and appropriate... I don't think this game looks as good as some of the others in the genre. The character animations are fun. Overall it is charming as an homage to older arcade games... games like Turtles in Time or X-Men the arcade game. I think Streets of Rage 4 and Absolum are technically better games in terms of things like graphics and gameplay. But this is a worthy game in the genre, especially for Marvel fans.

A genuinely fun game in the classic beat them up style. Happy to see that the entire Games content is on the cart. No download needed except for the DLC. Price is a little high, but it happens sometimes.

Super fun, retro-style beat'em up. Online play and 4 player couch co-op. You can save some if you get digital, but I love physical.

Its a great coop game, runs great on switch 2, no issues. lots of characters to choose from.

I've been playing this game with my kids. It's fun and the art direction is great. It's a great tribute to 90's game.

The definition of middle of the road. Not bad not great not even really good but not a total failure. Hopefully they make a sequel and it’s better.

Very fun game that reminds me of the classic 16-bit beat-em-up games on SNES and Genesis. Similar to TMNT Shredder's Revenge in gameplay and style with some added gameplay modes. If you enjoyed that game, you will like this game.
