Will pay for itself in less than 2 years.

I was tired of paying Comcast $10 monthly, bought this to replace the rental modem so that eventually it would pay for itself. Don't want to give Comcast any money more than I do already.

    Cable Box Thrift Move

This cable box replaces the same model from cable provider and allows you the option of, over time, saving money by not paying the monthly rental fee of the same box. Think it through and run the numbers first.

    Terrible customer service

My tg862g/CT has not worked properly since I bought it (it can't handle more than 4-5 devices wirelessly at one time). Arris customer support repeatedly blamed Comcast before finally admitting the unit was defective. They gave me 3 options for replacement: 1) FREE option - send the unit back and they then ship out a replacement (meaning no internet or phone service at all for two weeks); 2) $10 + shipping option - Arris sends a new unit and then I send back the defective option on my own dime; 3) expedited option - pay expedited shipping to send the unit back and receive a replacement is 3-4 days. So bottom line is their product doesn't work and I have to go without service for 2 weeks or pay up. Be warned.

Terrible Return Policy on Unopened Item

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this modem because I was moving out of state and the new cable company required an Arris modem. Best Buy had a good price so I ordered it on July 1st in time for my move. Well, the new cable company would only accept a modem purchased through Arris and wouldn't connect it on July 19th (so I had to rent their modem). I tried to return this to Best Buy, unopened, since it couldn't be used. However, since it was more than 14 days since the purchase, I wasn't allowed to return this unopened, brand new item -- not even for a store credit. I won't shop at Best Buy again. If I had purchased it at Amazon for a few dollars more I would now have $200 back in my pocket.

A bit expensive but will save $ in the long run

This was the only option for me for a Comcast modem that also has the phone line option. It was on the expensive side, but it does prevent me from paying a rental fee to Comcast (which means in the long run, as long as it does not break, it will pay for itself). It was easy to install and activate.

    Works well, better than renting

I purchased this to replace the earlier model that I had been renting. This is the model you need if you have telephone service through Comcast. The setup was easy and it works well. The backup battery from the old one fit this one.

    Terrible WIFI Range

Setup was simple and easy to use. This was a replacement modem as I recently upgraded to xfinity triple play. As stated in the summary the wifi range is awful. I say this compared to my existing Netgear N450. My bedroom is no more than 40 Ft away and the connection speed degrades 90%.

Good router but not a true duel band

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

If you are using wifi for iPad and tv there is too much buffering with xfinity. They say you need different bands for the optimal signal which I can only find if you rent their equipment. Others say they are duel band but are not. Need 2.4 band and 5 band. Any suggestions?

    Didn't work

I'm switching from DSL to Xfinity internet. To avoid renting the equipment from Xfinity, I bought this modem/router. It says "Xfinity" on it, so it's got to be right, right? After two hours, the Xfinity technicians (in my house and at Customer Service) could not get their system to recognize this equipment. Finally, we gave up, and he installed a modem/router from his truck. It worked right away. The two looked exactly alike, but I guess they're not exactly the same. So, back went this one. I don't know why it didn't work, and I guess I never will.

I had to get this because I have a phone line from Comact just like other users, the wireless router is really bad, my 8 year old Lynksys router had better speeds and range, Arris should add the 5Mhz to this modem. I have purchased a separate wireless router ..

This is the exact same modem you will get from Comcast when they install Xfinity. So why pay a monthly fee when you can save money by buying one.

I bought this to avoid rental fee. It costs about a 100 dollars too much. My PS4 now will not connect to the PS network. I have also read there are connection issues with both Netflix and printers with this unit. Don't buy this.
