I've had my eye on Yamaha's Aventage 10xx series for a few years now. I'm sort of a cheapskate, and wanted to wait for the receiver to drop a $100 or more. Long story short, my local Best Buy received one by accident and sold it to me for that $100 less. Moving up from an Onkyo, Pioneer Elite and Denon, this receiver has not disappointed. The sound is much richer and clearer without maxing out the volume. The features/goodies provided are a lot to play around with. Previously paired the three aforementioned receivers with Bose Acoustimass 5.1 setup. Nice sound, but when I paired them with the Yamaha 1070, the sound was much louder and clearer. I now have them paired with Klipsch floor standing, center, surround and surround back bookshelf. I'm in cinema heaven. Hoping this receiver provides as much satisfaction to others.

I got this receiver as an upgrade after returning my Aventage RX-A770 Receiver, the only reason I returned that one was because I needed more HDMI inputs and I also needed the Component input to accept 480P to have the best possible Gaming experience on my older game consoles like my Nintendo Wii, PS2 and GameCube. Some of these consoles automatically switch to 480P when their is a specific game and some ask for permission to upscale to 480P from 480i and on the RX-A770/870 it wont accept the 480P signal only 480i. But I am pretty happy with this 1070 version.
The good part: All the rear HDMI ports are 4K HDCP2.2 compatible and from my testing have accepted the lowest signal I could possibly through at it which is 480i all the way to 4K Native with HDR support and the two Component inputs accept signals from 480i to 1080i which is awesome if you have older game consoles that use a component cable,
there are also Composite inputs that also work for other devices, but the upscaling isnt that great for composite but works well if you just choose the video "direct" instead of video "processing" for the inputs.
the decoding for movies has been amazing with a lot of detail and the voice of the center channel sounds plenty loud. Pandora internet radio works great, wifi signal remains strong and Bluetooth seems to have improved vs the 2016 model, i was able to get 43ft distance from the RX-A1070 and my samsung Galaxy Note 5 playing music from it till it started to cut out a bit at 44 feet.
I cant speak for the other services as i am not subscribed to them but im sure they work well, this is the receiver to go for Period!
Now for the Bad part: Yamaha went cheap in the inputs and are now using internal automatic switching between devices once it senses a voltage signal which means that the HDMI 1 and HDMI 2 signals are being shared with both Component 1 and component two. To get audio from component you must connect the left and right RCA cables to the AV1 and AV2 inputs accordingly and have the audio input on the receiver set to auto so that it can switch automatically. If you have a DVR that doesn't fully power off and have something connected to the component inputs DO NOT CONNECT YOUR DIRECT TV OR DISH HOPPER DVR TO THE FIRST TWO HDMI INPUTS! or you will never be able to get it to auto switch. There is also no way to control that so If you have a Bluray player connected to HDMI 1 and a Wii for example to component 1 keep in mind that they share the same signal with AV1 for auto switching and The device you are not using will have to be powered off completely in order to enjoy using The component signal and The same goes for HDMI 2 and component two and so on and so on with AV3 AV4 etc.
I fell like they should have separated all of those inputs or at least mention this very important information in the specs.
Another thing I noticed is that certain music seems to have quite a bit of distortion and muddy at medium volume and gets worse as you turn it up using my Klipsch Reference premier speakers vs the Yamaha RX-A770 which sounded amazing with music but good with movie audio decoding.
The bottom line: this is a great receiver to own, everything works pretty well for what it is, there is plenty of power to push your speakers and in all honesty there has not been any issues with 4k hand shacking and both my tvs Samsung UN65JS8500 and LG 65 OLED E6 have been working great with it with the LG OLED being the main tv that was permanently paired with it after the test I did.
I highly recommend this receiver to anyone looking to have a real future proof receiver, well at least till they come up with a new HDMI design that is.
The cooling fan unit on top of my RX-A1070 is a AirCom T8 by A.C. Infinity

Originally went with Marantz, i had issues with it and decided to go with this model for the HD up-scaling. i find this easier to use and IMO sounds crisper. Also, it is also cheaper than the Marantz for the comparable model.

I recently purchased my Yamaha Aventage receiver and used the Geek Squad guys to assist in set up of the new unit. This receiver replaced a 12-year old Sony receiver and the change is remarkable. Very high tech with more features than most will ever use! We downloaded the Yamaha app on my smartphone, and now I can control all functions from there, plus it really allows for easy playback of my downloaded music from my device over the receiver- it really sounds great. I had checked several reviews before making this purchase and the vast majority of those people spoke very highly of the Yamaha receiver- they were correct! Very well put together with a solid frame, I am sure that it will provide years of solid performance for my home system!

This receiver is easy to set up and very powerful. It is like I have a band and a real movie theater in my leaving room. I use only 2 front speakers, 1 center and a sub, I am good.

After upgrading to a new LG 4k OLED I had to upgrade the rest of my Home Theater equipment to HDMI 2.0 specs. This was the least expensive Yamaha that I could find which had all the features I needed such as Pre-amp outputs for all speakers as I have Monoblocks powering everything.
I've run various Yamaha receivers for the past 20 years and have always had wonderful luck with them. Yamaha makes a quality product and the YPAO is amazing how it's able to exactly map distance to speakers from the listening point.
The Network apps are nice, but I tend to use the ones already built in to my LG OLED over the ones in the Receiver, but really not much difference between the app versions of the TV vs Receiver. They both work just fine.

Having been a prior owner and user of DENON AVRs, I can honestly say that since taking my first step into the Yamaha brand of AVR, I will NEVER go back to the inferior quality I experienced with my last DENON AVR (AVR-S910W), which, with less than two years use, started exhibiting some glitchy behavior.
Even without the glitchiness in my DENON AVR, the Yamaha RX-A1070 I purchased from Best Buy far surpasses in both sound and video quality my DENON. While the DENON runs much hotter and produces less quality in terms of sound and HDMI video, the Yamaha in contrast produces superior sound and video with a much cooler running temperature!
I'm sold... it's Yamaha from now on!

Excellent home theater receiver. My only complaint is that to get the best sound with audio sources requires using pure direct setting, which can only be accessed from the Yamaha remote, not the app. But it does sound fantastic.

I purchased this receiver as part of a home theater upgrade, replacing a very good Denon receiver purchased back in 2009. I have this driving Def Tech 9040 center and side speakers, rear surrounds and sub woofer. While shopping, I probably did about 10 trips to the Magnolia room at my local Best Buy to do comparison "auditions" between each of the various units, and definitely feel that I made the right choice with this Yamaha. Music and movie audio tracks seem crisper, cleaner and more detailed when played through this receiver; and this was the most "musical" sounding of any of the units I listened to. Arguably, any of the high end receivers I heard sounded fine, and would probably have delivered excellent performance for my home theater. This unit, however, seemed to me to be just that extra bit better. Additionally, since Yamaha sound equipment is used in many professional applications, I felt that this placed them a bit above the other companies as a manufacturer of audio equipment. Thus far, I think I have been right about that--this receiver seems on another level in every respect and is user friendly to boot. As a result, I would highly recommend this unit to anyone desiring pro level performance from their system. I also doubt, from my experience, that there are too many better sounding units out there in this price range. Go for it! You won't be sorry!

Very pleased with options that came with this unit. Connectivity to blu-tooth is easy, plenty of HDMI ports, room to expand to add other accessories later on, and quick set-up out of the box. Excellent sound for the price!

My 2nd Yamaha Receiver - for a reason. This, like the predecessor, has great sound and interacts well with other components. The set up microphone is a bit wonky. Got several unfounded error messages. Called Yamaha, who has US based support (BIG plus) and straightened all out. Wish the remote was better, but that came with a newer and much more $$ model.

Choosing an AVR is haaaaaard. Mostly because there are actually so many decent offerings. I'd actually looked at the next models down in the series, the 870 and 770. They all do a fantastic job of handling 4k, HDR and ATMOS. Plus, I really think 5.1.2 will be more than enough for my family room. The upgrade to the more powerful 1070 got me better options for the second display and the zone 2 audio. This AVR has more capabilities than I'll likely touch in its lifetime.

The way it looks and functions And the fact that it is so easy to operate is amazing. If you are looking for that perfect receiver this one is definitely it.
