This is an interesting instrument. My 12 year old grandson had no trouble learning to insert iPhone and finding fun things to view. The head straps required a bit of analysis because we don't usually wear stuff strapped to our heads. One tray snapped as my 14 year old grandson forced the iPhone. But we went on line and ordered a new tray. I love the Zeiss VRG for fun but wish I could use it for more meaningful experiences. I would like my instructional or intellectual "stuff". And am curious about the technology. How did it start and for what purpose?

I am amazed at the feeling I got when I viewed the samples with this headset! I had waited till the Zeiss came into the store as I wanted the exceptional optics that Zeiss is noted for! It was worth the wait! The universal smart phone tray holds my IPhone 6s plus, only without the protection case. The goggles are very comfortable for long periods of time. I would state though they can take a little getting used to. I wore them a little to long at first and became very dizzy after taking them off. I tried the roller coaster, an airplane simulation with dog fights, and a virtual tour in a museum. So I have not even gotten into the gaming aspects yet! These goggles are a high quality optical accessory that you will love to have!

I enjoy watching YouTube videos that were made specifically for watching on the headset but games and other apps are not good. Also, this doesn't have a magnetic button to make selections if you want to use Google's Cardboard app so beware. Overall it fits well and even works on my son too. iPhone users beware because my wife's 7 didn't work at all due to being out of focus all the time. I received this as a gift but would advise against buying one at this point.

This is basically a glorified google cardboard. The lenses aren't adjustable, and there's no trigger button. Attempts to attach a bluetooth controller to my device didn't work out as hoped, as the included demo app didn't treat any of the controller buttons as a trigger button. This VR peripheral is okay for watching videos and perhaps playing games that do not require a trigger button. I also had issues with the fixed lenses causing the image to not appear as it should. This was more an issue with individual apps, but adjusting lenses would've helped. I got this on sale for about $20, and it's great for very simple VR... but don't expect much from it.

The Zeiss VR cost a little more than some others but the construction and optics are well worth it. Zeiss is known for superior camera lens. The headset is very comfortable. i had size problems using my old iphone 5s but it works great with the larger phone.

    My Critique

I honestly tried 3 different VR headsets from Google Cardboard to this Zeiss VR One Plus. The phone as screen VR headsets both were difficult to focus my vision and I believe are fundamentally flawed for that reason. I read many of the reviews before buying but the reviews did not characterize the obvious limitations of the 3D VR phone experience. I happily found the recently released and 5 times as expensive Oculus GO which solved my focus and 3D VR troubles. I believe the built in screen was the key, I have had no headache or focus problems with the GO and I am overall thrilled with what it can do. If I cant see clearly view the VR made the Zeiss headset unusable to me, regardless of the price difference. I believe that’s what matters most.

These goggles fulfill the minimum need for cardboard on steroids. The phone holder is best for the +plus models where the smaller phones included the 8 need better positioning to get them right. the slight bit of foam in the holder does help aligning the phone to the view. The one major thing missing is the ability to change anything on the phone during viewing - no access to volume or buttons for selection, physically or via remote...would be a great add ! They are nicely designed and the fit is great.

What it is meant to do - it does great. They list it a one size fits all phones type but it does not work well with the smaller phone, the phone does not sit straight in the case - however... if you have a larger iphone, it should work great

The goggles are comfortable and fit my Son’s phone well. However, there are no hands-on controls on the VR. It does take take some time to get use to using the VR. My Son wore them a little too long at first and he became very dizzy and nauseous. The VR is very limited on what you can do with it, and therefore you have to purchase additional equipment and/or software to get the full benefits and enjoyment out of it. However, we were able to try a roller coaster, walk around a museum, and an airplane simulation. It’s a neat experience.
