A fictional story, based on facts in biblical times. Good acting and the story is well paced. Friends watching, even from a non-religious viewpoint, found this film interesting. A Roman officer must discover what happened to Jesus' body after the crucifixion, to dispel rumors of a risen Messiah. This movie will stimulate your thinking with the questions it raises.
I very much enjoyed this movie. Both from a subject matter and for the quality.
The premise of the film is quite good - killing and resurrection of Christ, as told by a non-believing Roman solider. As a believer, I very much enjoyed the film.
The UHD presentation was great. I thought the use of HDR was well done here, especially with the number of outdoor/bright scenes. The WCG use was also quite good, even though the tone was slightly muted (they are in a desert after all).
The audio was pretty good too. There's no need really for a lot of special effects in this film, so the surround was effective for what was needed.
I would recommend this to a friend

Surprisingly good movie
While a fictional story set in biblical times, this is a well-done and respectful movie. The acting is very good and the story moves at a great pace. Both people watching from a religious or non-religious viewpoint will enjoy this film. Joseph Fiennes is an excellent lead as a Roman officer tasked with solving the mystery of what happened to Jesus' body after the crucifixion so as to disprove rumors of a risen Messiah. Whatever your religious affiliation, this movie will have you thinking and pondering the questions it raises. This is a great new Easter movie to add to your collection.
In my opinion, many Christian themed movies are kind of corny. But "Risen" is not. It's a high quality and very interesting look at what it might have been like from the perspective of a non-believing Roman Centurian during the time of the crucifixion of Jesus (Yeshua). The actors are top quality. Everyone I've watched it with so far has really enjoyed it.
This is a very good movie (4.5 stars wasn't available) and would highly recommend it to anyone. A great story from a unique perspective. The acting/casting was very good and the scenes felt authentic. Really, a beautiful movie.
Columbia Pictures invested in this historical fiction film set around the time of the crucifixion of Jesus. The acting is excellent. It is a good use of imagination and brings the true biblical narrative to life for the viewer’s next reading.
