Not Bad, But Not Outstanding!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The concept of this true life story is entertaining. As well there is competent direction by Sophia Coppola's modestly unique way of directing. Not a bad film, but it lacks those special qualities that make movies (like 2018's BLACK PANTHER or 2018's BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY) truly great: the total package of plot, timing, story-telling, direction, cinematography, soundtrack, and great acting chops by the actors! And all these combine and work together in a sometimes indescribable harmony and interplay of all aspects of film-making. The Bling Ring just doesn't measure up as "great." The soundtrack, although appropriate, is particularly wanting. What I liked most are the great "Extras!" There are features, interviews, behind the scenes production interesting facets, and enlightening comments. And I usually eschew the "Extras" because they're oftentimes overly detailed or boring or limited. The "Bling Ring's Extra Features sheds a lot of light and was very interesting to me because ALL the extra features were so well done! One example helps to explain what made this such a real-life interesting story and why it was chosen to be made into a film by Sophia Coppola. For example, in the "Extras" is the factual statement that "Between 2008 and 2009, the Bling Ring of teenage criminals stole $3 Million from celebrities!" The enlightening succinct statement that follows is paraphrased as such: "This crazy pop culture cocktail main thrust was not so much the money, and fame, and riches -- those just came with the territory -- it was that the teens wanted to BE those they stole from; they wanted to LIVE in those homes as if it was THEIR homes. Clearly, these teens were symbolic "icons" of the part of the massive cultural shift for that demographic, which fit quite neatly into the timely happening historical shift where "everything" was going to be treated as news! Lastly, Director Sophie Coppola has a usual penchant for exhibiting beauty in her films. This film, "Bling Ring" uses a contrary style of beige and washed-out background scenery. I'm mentioning this -- NOT because it was THE MOST PREDOMINANT factor preventing this film from achieving 5-star greatness -- but because it is just another one of the magical aspects of film-making that keeps this movie in the category of "Not Bad, But Not Outstanding." Extremely critical reviewers MIGHT give "The Bling Ring" only 2-stars. I give it generously, 3-stars!

Cool Independent Movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is based off of a series of break-ins of Hollywood Celebrities a few years ago. I saw the story on the television show American Greed and found it very interesting. This movie is currently discounted at $7.99 for a Blu-Ray copy and also includes a digital HD copy you can redeem with Vudu, Cinema Now, or several other movie streaming apps. The movie is very style-ized and has a pretty cool feel. Its not a traditional movie and should be applauded for that. The movie stars Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame and she is wonderful.

Great depiction of rich spoiled teenagers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Spoiled American kids of well-to-do families in LA suburbs get star-crossed by watching rich and famous movies and and tracking real life online tabloids of stars and glamorous people so what do they do for kicks? Home invasion of these very celebrities that they admired. Good pacing and docu. style by director Sofia Coppola.

Good film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a pretty good film that shows how teens (around my age, 19) really look up to celebrities and go to extreme lengths to be like them. It's scary that most of it was true and what this group of teens would do to look like their models.

Sophia's Song to Millenials
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Missed this gem during its theatrical run. Bummer. Was on my list to see/purchase via streaming and/or disc. Saw this title in $5 bin and scooped it up. Very well made and such a poignant statement about society's celebrity and social media obsessed culture. Fine cast, solid direction, great musical cues. Enjoy!

Not your average biopic
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Missed this film during its theatrical run but kept it on my radar. Netflix doesn't have it. Used video stores priced it too high. Looked thru the sale bin at best buy & there it was for $5. Great price for a new blu ray. The ultraviolet download expired but I'm not a fan of watching movies that way.

A Movie about Theft But Not Caring
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really enjoyed this film. It deals with the real life case of teens stealing from famous people out in California area. As multiple celebrities are hit and they think its no big deal as they have so much stuff that it won't be missed. Only thing is their not experts and like to have to much fun while stealing and idolize the celebrities they steal from to much. Good movie and the cast is great especially Emma Watson. Some of the celebs that were robbed in real life make cameos in the movie.

Good Teenage Crime Film
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The actors in this film is great. Obviously the main big name in this film is Emma Watson and she plays her part as a spoiled american teenager well. The films is about teenagers breaking into houses of those that are rich and famous and taking things as they said they won't miss it with all they have. Its a good film on teenagers breaking into houses and the consequences they face from it.
