Quality4 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Not difficult to install (I did it by myself) Big capacity and high power Great exhaust/ blower Makes more noise than expected (when exhaust is on) but not a deal breaker Bought this to replace non working fan/hood It was an open item therefore some minor scratches and bends... Overall good quality... if it wasn’t for the noise will give the 5 stars

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Ease of use, FeaturesTo be honest, Whirlpool was never a brand that I'd initially considered when replacing my 21 y/o GE OTR microwave. After lots of research, my Consumer Reports subscription finally verified all the good reviews I'd read online, listing the Whirlpool as a good choice among several major brands. The interior is huge (my son-in-law says that there's a "lot of real estate in there") and heats food up quickly and evenly. The finish really is fingerprint resistant, so my OCD self hasn't had to spend hours cleaning up smudges. The window is big enough that, at 5'7, I can easily see inside, unlike most of the other brands that have minimized theirs to the point where they might as well have eliminated the window. (People shouldn't have to be taller than 6 feet to observe what they're heating.) The interior cleans up quickly and easily, but is just a bit darker than I'm used to due to the silver-toned easy clean finish rather than the white interior I'd been used to all these years. It's not a problem I can't live with, however. Best of all, compared to my original one, the microwave is exceptionally quiet while heating food and the price was fantastic. The exhaust fan is fairly loud on high, but extremely effective, which is the more important feature for me. We cook a lot of foods with intense spices, as well as seafood, so exhausting the odors outside is a priority here. I also like having a choice of 4 speeds + OFF, rather than just the High or Low options on our former GE. The door feels very sturdy and closes tightly, with no cheap, 'tinny' feel to it. The microwave installed perfectly into the space formerly occupied by my GE, but extends a bit deeper out past our cabinets by 1.5-2", and is a bit taller by about an inch as well. Neither of these measurements has interfered with the operation of nearby cabinets at all. I've only been operating this new appliance for a short time, and I'm still getting used to all the options, but I'm 99% satisfied with the choice of this model/brand. The only (very minor) downsides are that: 1.) I miss the ease of 'instant' buttons (#s 1-6 made my selection with just one speedy press previously). This model's only instant button gives you 30 seconds at a time, so there are still multiple presses required. 2.) I wish that the lighting under the bottom was either moved to the front where most of the actual cooking takes place or split into 2 areas to cover more of the larger cooking surface on most newer stoves (see attached photos), and also made a bit brighter. And, 3.) I wish that the "off" setting for the turntable would remain that way until it was intentionally turned back to "on", rather than the way it currently defaults back to "on" mode after each use. Again, though, these are not issues that I can't live with because I realize that there will always be some features that are a trade off within the majority of appliances. In the end, I'm enjoying my choice more each day and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Over the range used as an in cabinet microwave
|Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:DesignWe’ve only had the microwave for a few weeks so it’s too soon to comment on its functionality. It takes time to understand a microwave’s idiosyncrasies and we tend to find a few functions that work for us and use them to death (such as Reheat:Casserole:1 Cup.) So far, we have no complaints. But I want to leave some information that might help others who wanted what I want: an over the range size microwave used as a built in. We moved recently and had an over the range microwave at out previous home. We loved the size. However, our new home has a beautiful custom kitchen with the wall behind the range covered by the same quartz countertop material used on the counters and island, too pretty to deface hanging a microwave. Fortunately, there is a large open space in a cabinet that was large enough to accommodate a microwave as big as an over the range microwave (though not a large countertop variety because they were all too deep.) The question was whether I could make it work. I searched many websites including this one for information and found little but I took a calculated chance. As the attached pictures show, I made it work. The sides and top of the microwave are not flat like a countertop microwave; they are irregularly shaped stamped sheet metal but are painted matte black. They are visible IF the opening is too big. Fortunately, the size of this microwave allows it to fit almost perfectly in our opening so the unfinished sides and top aren’t visible. I imagine I could have fashioned trim to hide the sides if the fit wasn’t great. Something I had not considered was that not having the microwave attached to anything causes it to shift when the door is opened and closed. I resolved this by using rubber chair leg protectors to raise the microwave to my desired height. The rubber prevents the microwave from sliding on the cabinet shelf and it doesn’t slide on the rubber. They aren’t visible unless one is really looking. I inserted a small cushion between the top of the upper right panel and the cabinet above to provide a little tension so closing the door has a more solid feel. It’s black and barely visible. A few final considerations: The light and exhaust fan under the microwave do not cause any problems. There is no reason to use them but if they are turned on they don’t hurt anything. The microwave generates little to no heat so ventilation isn’t an issue. Finally, the electric plug is NOT of the 90 degree variety so it requires a couple of inches of the opening depth. I didn’t have that space available but was able to find a 3 foot extension cord with a 90 degree plug to plug the microwave into, giving me back an inch or two. Hope this helps any adventurous souls who are like me, always looking for something that doesn’t exist who makes do with what does.

Q: QuestionDoes this model have outside venting?
Asked by MEME.
- A:Answer MEME- This Microwave does have the recirculating venting, as well as outside venting.
Answered by WhirlpoolTeam
Q: QuestionDoes this Microwave need outdoor venting. We have an over the range space with no vent the old unit had a filter in front of it. This one does not.
Asked by jim1125.
- A:Answer This unit can EITHER ventilate back into the kitchen OR ventilate out of the kitchen through a duct that you would need to install yourself. Out-of-the-box, the unit is set to ventilate back into the kitchen, but there are clear instructions on how to modify the top of the unit to have the ventilation go through your exhaust vent.

Q: QuestionHow many lights are there to light up the range top? How many light settings are there?
Asked by luvtotravel.
- A:Answer There is one light, two settings of high and low which I find is quite sufficient. High for cooking purposes and the low as a night light.

Q: QuestionWhat is the difference between "built in" and "over the range?"
Asked by Dave.
- A:Answer Built-in models install in a cabinet and over-the-range models go over the cooking range and have ventilation built-in to the bottom of them, usually with a range light as well.

Q: QuestionHow much noise does the exhaust fan make ? I am planning to vent it outside just like my current microwave but my current one makes a lot of noise and so the exhaust does not get used as much. How quiet is it at 400 CFM ? Thanks
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Compared to the GE Profiles microwave (circa 2005) this unit replaced, the Whirlpool is much quieter.

Q: QuestionOur current (broken) microwave sits only 1/4 of an inch off of a wall on the left. When you open the door on this whirlpool will the hinging make it wider and run into my wall?
Asked by Jeff.
- A:Answer Not a problem. When door is shut, the edge is flush with the cabinet. When door is open, the hinge is on the inside and the edge of the door is approximately 1/2 inch from the left cabinet. The door opens to about 85 degrees, this restricts the handle on microwave from hitting left wall. This unit deeper and taller then my old one. Because the burners are gas, there is less clearance on cooking with tall pots on back burners. I new this when I made the purchase. Note- comes with a turntable and wire rack for two levels of cooking. Instructions say to not cook with wire rack if not using it. Reference pictures, door closed and door open
