The Academy Award-winning duo behind The Hurt Locker (Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal) reteams for this drama detailing the hunt for Osama bin Laden, and starring Oscar-winner Jessica Chastain as the intelligence expert who dedicated a decade of her life to tracking down the world's most wanted terrorist. In the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the CIA began interrogating suspected Al-Qaeda agents across the globe in a bid to locate the elusive bin Laden. Upon arriving at a CIA black site and witnessing the brutal interrogation tactics firsthand, driven CIA operative Maya (Chastain) aids her unpredictable colleague Dan (Jason Clarke) in gathering the intelligence that will help bring bin Laden to justice. Over the course of the next decade, numerous false leads and dead ends make the search seem more futile than ever. Meanwhile, numerous suicide bombings all across the Middle East and Europe hint that Al Qaeda won't go down without a fight. Then, just when it seemed as if the trail of clues had finally dried up, an old piece of evidence leads Maya to a suspect who may work directly for the man charged with planning the worst act of terrorism ever committed on American soil. Joel Edgerton, Edgar Ramirez, Mark Strong, Chris Pratt, and James Gandolfini co-star.~Jason Buchanan

ACTION PACK MOVIE...BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR!!! GO NAVY!!!
I would recommend this to a friend
Rated 5 out of 5 stars
Great movie based on true events!
Excellent depiction of true events that was based on a lot of factual information from the incident. There is another similar movie out that does not compare to this one, but be warned ..this movie is not for the faint of heart. Be prepared for some pretty graphic scenes leading up to the Bin Laden raid that include some brutal interrogation techniques and suiciding bombing. But it’s all done to tell the story of what happened, and it’s done very well.
Zero Dark Thirty is a classic action movie that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
I paid $5.99 for this Blu Ray Disc at Best Buy. One of the all time great bargains that I have
purchased from Best Buy.
I'm not the kind of person that you would expect to love a movie like this. I'm a pacifist and an outspoken war critic. I watched this movie out of curiosity and because of my respect for the people behind it. I knew that it had to be more than the war propaganda people were claiming it was.
It is much more than that. This film is about historiography and the nature of desire. In a way, this is a post-9/11 "Moby Dick." What does it mean to chase something for so long, to sacrifice so much... and then actually achieve your goal? Is it satisfying? Was it worth the journey? Was it even a worthwhile goal? The film deals with some of the biggest issues of our time: terrorism, torture, foreign policy, democratization, national security, etc. But it is a postmodern take on all of these things. What does it mean to value the things we value? Are they worth valuing?
"Zero Dark Thirty" is a thoughtful examination of parts of our culture that are not always thoughtfully examined. Watch the movie critically, ask it questions and see what questions it asks of you. You can get lost in it, because it is powerfully acted and beautifully filmed (plays on light and dark, light washing out details, darkness revealing details, etc.). But don't expect simply to be entertained. This is a complicated movie that is more than a war film or political thriller. It begs for and deserves your attention.
I found this movie in the 'cheap' box. It was sitting right on top and it caught my attention - because of the name. Don't we all talk about getting up (or leaving) at "Oh Dark Thirty" sometimes?
It's the story about how we (as in the U.S.) tracked down and killed Osama bin Laden. It's a truly fascinating story about how the CIA was relentless (or at least the lead character, Maya was) in the quest to find and eliminate the mastermind behind the 911 attack on the Twin Towers. No side love affairs or anything else to mar the magnificent story of the talent that it took to nail down where bin Laden was hiding.
The actual attack with two helicopters is filled with suspense as the Seals land at the compound where bin Laden is holed up (losing one helicopter right as they're landing). It's a tribute to the training of these Seal warriors that no one was hurt in the attack, even though one helo lost power and crashed at the attack site.
If you're a military buff like I am, or just love a suspenseful movie, Zero Dark Thirty is for you. There's even a 2nd disk chock full of info on how they made the movie.
