I've been in the market for something to help throughout school and this laptop is perfect for the job. The system is very fast and powerful for an 8th gen i5 processor....this thing is a workhorse and the fact that it comes standard with 12GB of RAM is awesome as most other laptops in this price range are sitting at 8GB or an older 7th gen processor. The SSD is from Samsung, model is PM871b. It's not the best but it is a good quality drive and fast. HP has done a fantastic job with the hardware for the price and the design of the laptop itself is nice, the screen is gorgeous and displays HD movies beautifully. Now for gaming....you can play some games on this but don't expect to be playing the latest and greatest, pretty much older less demanding games only; it's important to note that this is more of a workhorse and less of a gaming laptop. It's also lightweight and so far I have had no heat issues. Battery life has been fine for me. It's important to stress that how much time you get from a 100% charge will depend on how many tasks you're running, music/video streaming, WiFi/Bluetooth, disk drive/flash drive/external drive use, and whatever other activities. In short, I find myself able to sit comfortably for hours and not even stress about battery life. The charger is small and portable if you did have to bring it with you. The only real downside for hardware is it is only 128GB, fresh out of the box usable storage will be around 85GB. I have another laptop for games and as well as a couple external storage drives so I wasn't worried about space. But I think it has plenty of space for school or job related work along with pictures and music. The only other downside is Windows 10. I've always had Windows computers but personally I feel Microsoft had it nearly perfect with Windows 7. The one big issue I did encounter was after any reboot or logging out of my profile the start menu customization I did would reset all the time and I found all the useless bloatware came back. The only fix I found for this was to delete my user account and create a new one, after that any customization I did to the start menu was saving. This is a common Windows 10 issue, it is not specific to this laptop. I am giving this laptop a 4/5 simply because of Windows 10, it pains me lol because HP did a great job. If the OS was better this would definitely be a 5/5 star laptop. Overall, as long as you're not a gamer, I believe this laptop is currently one of the best deals at this price range. I highly recommend it if you need a portable workhorse.

Lasted all through college, screen stopped working after something spilled on it but hdmi port on it worked for external monitor. Plastic a little cheap but the hinge mechanism was surprisingly sturdy for an HP. The internals are quality as I fully disassembled it after the display stopped functioning. Thinking of using the internals and making a custom desktop with it as some of the plastics broke when disassembling the case.

I was looking for a new computer and was not expecting to get a laptop but I am so glad I did! This HP laptop has everything I wanted and more. I spend most of my time researching genealogy so I wanted a fast computer that would handle a lot of different windows that I could switch into quickly. This HP is so fast and the screen is large and bright. I love that it doesn’t have all the wires hanging from my desk like I did with a desktop computer. The wireless internet feature is great, and I love that it also has Bluetooth! The unexpected bonus is that it has a touch screen, which I absolutely love, and the price of this laptop is the frosting on the cake. I am very happy with it and I highly recommend this laptop.

I'm a loyal HP user, and when my old HP laptop was ready to bite the dust, I looked around for a new one. Two friends had recommended a touchscreen, and one had recommended a Solid State Drive for faster performance. I am so happy to have found this laptop, it is lightning fast, super light, and perhaps the nicest HP computer I've ever owned. I did invest in an external SSD, as the 128GB capacity wouldn't even touch the storage capacity that my previous laptop had. I love that this computer has the full 10-key, which comes in handy when I'm doing school work. I'd definitely recommend this computer to anyone who wants a budget friendly, reliable laptop.

This HP is much easier than my previous Dell unit, it is faster, nice size and weight. I love having option of touch screen. Pricing ok when comparing to other brands.

My budget was in the 500$ range. I was looking to get the most processing power, at the lowest price. And this does not disappoint! i5 processor with 12, yes, 12GB of ram, runs my audio engineering software as well as my desktop. Plus it has a solid state hard drive, so the boot time is amazingly fast. Now setting up for a guerrilla recording session is a breeze. Not a lot of extra features, but it does have a camera for web meetings, and the keyboard actually has a numeric 10-key layout which I like a lot- and I don’t see on a lot of laptops. I don’t really use the touchscreen much, but I tried it, and it seems pretty responsive. Downside-, the harddrive is tiny. Granted I use external hard drives to offload my audio when I’m done working on it, so space is not an issue. But just know that the 128gb of space fills up quickly. (I think right out of the box there was about 40gb already used up) So if you want a no-frills workhorse, and don’t mind the small storage, this is a great choice. Also want to note that Best Buy also sells a lower end version of this with an i3 processor and 8gb of ram, but for the small cost difference, I would recommend this. (I think this was only like 100$ more)

Bought this to replace my 7 year old Sony laptop. I like HP products and this did not disappoint. On the advice of a "techy" friend I went for an SDD drive and sacrificed storage space but I have plenty of external hard drive space. I had to make this purchase quickly as my Sony laptop had crashed but I am not disappointed and it is a speedy machine with 12 GB of RAM.

First thing to describe this laptop -- FAST! The solid state drive (SSD) is a must have. I won't ever buy another computer with a hard disk drive (HDD). My laptop starts up quick with hardly any wait. Nice, crisp screen. Good video quality. I use this laptop more often than my desk top computer because it's just much faster. The only thing I wish this computer had is a backlit keyboard. But since I don't look at the keyboard when I type, I'm fine without that function. It would be nice though. I would definitely recommend this laptop. Great for the price!

It is very fast and very easy to ise laptop. I loved this laptop. It is the best laptop i have ever bought with great touch screen feature. I am giving 4 star due to the less space in SSD.

Nice affordable and portable laptop - 15" - SSD - would be nice if SSD HDD was a little larger capacity (128 GB), but the speed of SSD vs moving parts HDD is definitely worth the lack of capacity - boots up and shuts down in seconds - decent display - has 10-key number pad - 12 GB RAM allows decent multi-tasking - light weight and battery life good -- recommended

decently fast SSD laptop with touch screen capabilities. Good for school/work, not ideal for gaming or heavy entertainment use. At <$600, hard to beat.

A laptop with 12gb ram and i5 8th gen is a deal that has only a space of hdd missing. Overall a smooth, light and fast computer

I bought this computer to replace an older pc that was just taking to long to do anything. With the 12gb ram this thing flies. Super fast boot up almost instant on from off.touch screen works flawlessly and nice having a dvd burner for us older people that still have a ton of music and movies on dvd and cd.
