I still consider myself primarily a Windows and Mac user, but using a Chromebook has its own advantages and offers a completely different experience. It is smooth, easy to use, and free of distractions or cumbersome navigation. This Chromebook even comes with a protective sleeve, which is a nice bonus. My first impression out of the box was that this Acer Chromebook felt solid and lightweight, although it doesn't compete with premium flagship laptops in the same segments. Setting it up was straightforward. All I had to do was sign in with my Google account, and the Chromebook took care of the rest. Within seconds, all of my Google apps were signed in, and my Google-based data, settings, and preferences were automatically synced. To be clear, this Chromebook is not designed to replace a Windows laptop or a Mac. Instead, it is built to deliver a completely different experience, focusing on fast startups similar to a tablet, along with a responsive and lag-free experience for web browsing, streaming, schoolwork, and everyday productivity. The large 15.6-inch Full HD (1920 × 1080) display is a strength point. Watching YouTube, browsing the web, reading documents, and handling everyday productivity tasks all went smooth thanks to the reasonable screen size. The design is simple and mainstream, which is exactly what I expect at this price point. It is noticeably lightweight which makes it easy to carry around for school, work, or travel. In terms of performance, the MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in eMMC storage, combined with ChromeOS delivers fast and responsive experience. During my testing in various activities, including web browsing, checking email, working on documents, streaming movies, and attending virtual meetings, this Chromebook did well and allowed me to work without worrying about battery life or getting interrupted by OS updates during the day. In addition, the laptop is equipped with Wi-Fi 6E, providing fast and reliable wireless connectivity, which is good to see in such budget-friendly Chromebook. Another welcome feature is the built-in Google Gemini AI, which is handy. The laptop also supports USB-C passthrough charging, making it convenient to recharge with compatible USB-C chargers. Another advantage of ChromeOS is the access to a wide variety of Android apps through the Google Play Store. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed using the Acer Chromebook 315. It delivers exactly what I expect from a Chromebook: simplicity, ease of use, smooth performance, excellent battery life, and everything I need for everyday tasks. The large Full HD display is great and ChromeOS delivers speed and responsiveness despite being budget laptop.

Need a computer? Need it to do basic stuff in a web browser? Don't want it to be hard to use but also don't want to deal with THAT operating system? This Acer Chromebook 315 will probably be all you need. Chromebooks have come a long way. They have adapted to from the overly-basic, barely-able-to-do-anything devices they used to be...to a very capable computer. Setting this computer up for the first time really made that point for me. So much of the computing that many of us do from day-to-day is done in a web browser, and web browsers themselves are very capable as well. What really stands out is how familiar it feels. While not everything is in the same place as you are used to seeing it in on other computers, it's still very intuitive. ---PROS--- This computer is not a powerhouse, but is generally very responsive and runs well under a load of multiple tabs and a couple of "apps" running. What many will find useful is the large 15.6-inch screen. Chromebooks are often budge computers, but in doing so, are also more compact, with smaller screens, crowded keyboards and small touch pads. This is the complete opposite. While it does not have a number pad, the keyboard is mostly standard - a couple of keys are reduced in size, but most are normal size. The travel is minimal, making it very easy to type on and surprising quiet. As I type this review, I am amazed how quiet the keystrokes are. The touch pads is very large and supports a lot of common gestures, including the 2-finger swipe to go back a page in the web browser. As someone who cannot use a standard mouse if it doesn't have a back button on the side of it, that backward swipe gesture is almost equally as important to me. The touch pad supports taps, but if you like to press on it to get that satisfying "click", it responds easily. It only works for left clicks. Right clicks (context menus) require the two-finger motion (tap or press). The screen is large, making it easy to have multiple windows open at the same time. ChromeOS has also adapted the window snap feature. It's limited, but at least it's easy to place two windows side by side. It's doesn't get extremely bright, so it may be limited in very bright sunlight outdoors, but for average use, it's good. I lacks the glossy screen, meaning the screen has a little less clarity, but the trade-off is low reflectivity. It certainly is not bad, either. Text is clear, pictures look vivid and colors are decently saturated. Setup of this device has a few steps involved, but many of them can be skipped, although they are all useful. It will help you set up "apps" like Adobe Acrobat, DocuSign, Spotify, and others just in the setup process. You can adjust the size of text and objects on the screen before the setup is complete, which is useful if the user has low vision or accessibility needs. One of the top keys (F9) will launch the accessibility features, making them easy to access. For a laptop of this size, this Acer Chromebook is very light and thin. I can pick it up with one hand, something I can rarely do with anything other than a MacBook Air. The chassis is plastic. It's not premium feeling in the least, but it feels sturdy for a laptop of this price range. It has some give around the frame of the keyboard, but honestly given how good the keyboard is, I barely noticed. This may be too large for a younger child to carry comfortably, but for a desk use environment, it will still work well for a school computer. ---CONS--- Where this laptop falls short (and wow does it) is with sound. The speakers are very disappointing. They sound hollow and lack bass. I really appreciate the speaker grills being on the sides of the keyboard to direct the sound upward and not down to the surface, but the sound on them is so poor that it does not make that big of a difference. You will definitely want earbuds or headphones with this one (and it DOES have a headphone jack), unless you are just listening to speech. ----SUMMARY---- For the price, this is a very good Chromebook, especially if you want one with a large screen. I'll mention again that the keyboard on this device is better than keyboards I have used on much more expensive laptops. The low travel and quietness of them is a huge plus. This is a very easy device to use for anyone that just wants to open Chrome and check email, social media, watch YouTube, or other activities you can do in a web browser. It will stutter a bit if you have too many apps or browser tabs open, as it only has 4 GB of ram, and activities that require a lot of resources may max that 4 GB out quickly. Overall, this is still a very usable device for basic tasks, and is very comfortable to use.

What stands out right away is how much you can get done without installing anything. Word processing, Office, photo editing, even video editing for social media all run in the browser. Canva too. A few years ago you needed a Windows laptop for that. You really don't anymore. Setup was the easiest part. I logged in with my Pixel phone and it walked me right through the security step. The Google Play Store is on here, so you are not stuck with only websites. If a web version of something doesn't exist, there is a good chance an app for it. One thing to know first: this model is not a touchscreen. Plenty of Android apps are built for tapping and swiping, and those feel awkward with a trackpad. Battery has been the nice surprise. An afternoon of browsing with a YouTube video going in the background barely moved the meter. This is not a laptop I think about charging during the day. The 15.6 inch screen is good for the price and I have been watching a lot of YouTube on it. The speakers are the weak spot. They sound a bit thin. Plug in headphones through the 3.5mm jack or connect over Bluetooth and that goes away and it will sound better. The camera is fine for meetings in a room with decent light. Don't expect more than that. It oversaturates a little when you record. There is a slide cover for the camera if you don’t want it always “open”. The built in microphone surprised me though. It actually sounds pretty good. Ports are two USB-A and two USB-C, so a mouse, keyboard and headphones all plug right in. There is a Kensington lock slot. The charging cable is USB-C. And I was able to charge on either side. There is no memory card reader, which is worth knowing since you only get 64GB. Extra space means a USB drive or the cloud. The other thing to think about is the 4GB of memory. Normal browsing is fine, but this is not a machine for twenty tabs and heavy apps going at once. For school, documents, streaming and everyday use, it is a lot of laptop for the money. Google Gemini is also available on here as well.

Bought this laptop to assist in schooling and work tasks, the purchase was a great experience. Aside from that the laptop itself was exact what I was looking for and more. It is quick, light and has the power to perform all my needs. I love the touch screen and how easy it was to set up. Would definitely recommend to any students on a tight budget or someone who wants something portable but still has the kick to it.

I would recommend this computer if you're into writing and need a cheap computer. It gets the job done well, but it cannot run applications like video games; overall, it's good.

Screen was bigger than he was used to from the chrome books issued in HS. He was thrilled. So far there hasn't been any issues
