The environments in Agony can be stunning, the atmosphere is scary & haunting -- this game has creative minds behind it! Sadly, the execution is a tad bit spotty when it comes to gameplay & polish. The gameplay is incredibly monotonous. This is a hide & seek game with collect-a-thon mechanics that have you searching pitch black environments (LITERALLY!) to collect items over and over and over and over and over again. That's not hyperbole. This is bad game design. As for the polish, there is none. This game has audio issues, screen-tearing, crashes, etc. And that's beyond the flaws with the gameplay like your character getting hung up on environmental geometry. If you dig games with new settings that immerse you, Agony may be worth buying if they patch the game, however I'd recommend avoiding until the issues are fixed. Even then, though, you can't fix the core game mechanics & level design, both of which are severely lacking. Tread carefully.

Agony is an interesting look at how not to release a video game. The game promises a very grim, disgusting, unnerving journey into a stylized depiction of the Underworld. While the visuals can be quite impressive with some really cool, horrific imagery, the game suffers from some serious performance issues. There is near constant screen tearing. Normally games with screen tearing can still be generally playable, however, here it never stops resulting in a very ugly game. It's hard to take in all of the sights and sounds when the game chugs so hard. The game's problems don't just pertain to the performance of the game either. The game is difficult and not because it's necessarily made that way. There is very little direction and guidance in the game. You are not told about significant gameplay mechanics such as the ability to possess other Martyrs, but only if they don't have a bag over their head. If you do play the game, make sure to do that whenever you can. There is potential for this game. If the developers take their time and seriously work on the game in the post-launch period to fix the screen tearing, game balance, and tutorials, there could be a time where the game is worth playing. As it stands, this is a rather disappointing game with a lot of untapped potential. Stay away from this game until the devs can really work on it and make it a better, less frustrating experience overall.

Visually it is on par with an XB360/PS3 game, which isn't really a bad thing. The story is pretty cut and dry, but the objectives are not. The game could give better explainations on what to do and how to play. For collectors this might end up being one of those odd games that you never see a few months or years down the road.

The gameplay is repetitive, graphics are bad, voice acting is terrible and the levels are confusing. It's also filled with bugs. Pass on this one.

If you like slow paced horror games you'll like it. It's not very long but the atmosphere and levels are pretty cool. It's pretty much just walking around though.

This game is unique and dark, the way it was meant to be. That is until it starts becoming repetitive and starts to feel more like a game instead of surviving in the pits of the underworld. Would recommend for around $20 or under.

Game works fine but nothing memorable. Bought to see if it was as bad as reviews, it’s not but nothing special either.

Purchased this game because it sounded interesting after reading about. However it’s a terrible game. If you really have to try it I suggest waiting for a good discount or sale on this game. I played for probably two hours before I trough in the towel on this game. Save your money or buy a different game altogether.

This game has a lot going for it but it needs some work.

I love this type of gameplay and atmosphere. Reminds of a shooter in a dantes inferno setting.

This game looks good on the outside, but can be clunky in gameplay at times.

Honestly, I bought it because it was really well priced. I went into it like you would a so-so movie with the thought of maybe it’ll surprise me. No such luck.

I purchased this game for 10 bucks on a Black Friday sale. The game is ok. If you have the ability to play it on PC I'd suggest getting that version.

You have to try it, to believe it. Original, upfront horror. Immortality for those who understand it.
