It does have the Kindle App on it but it also has the ability to download apps, browse the web, make video calls and stream movies, TV or music! The Kindle App comes pre installed on all Amazon Fire Tablets. If you have an existing Kindle account, you can log in to it through the Tablet and your daughter will be able to access books you already own. If you don't have a Kindle account set up, its free to sign up and pair your existing Amazon Account with. Once you have the Kindle App set up, your daughter will be able to choose from any of the millions of titles available for purchase on Kindle. Through Kindle and your local library, she will also be ablet to check out books through Libby. The only thing you will need for Libby, is a current Library card from your local library, then she would even be able to check out books for free and read them at her leisure. Great Tablet
We have 6 foster children and these budget friendly tablets help with learning. You can set time limits and playing hours. There is a parent app that controls what they can access. Only drawback is you can only set 4 profiles but the workaround is using the same profile on more than one tablet. The information for apps and games is only saved on the tablet that it is opened on. I recommend getting a screen protector and kid proof case.

Highly recommended as an e-reader
I LOVE my Kindle Fire. I bought it primarily for reading ebooks and Kindle's paperwhite technology makes it easier on the eyes than reading on a phone or tablet. I added an after market strap and it's even more enjoyable now. It's lighter than my old Kindle Fire and just as good, of not better on color and graphics. I'm so glad I purchased mine.

Fire HD 8”
Really a very good product at a reasonable price. It comes with the Kindle app which is great for Ebooks. It’s nearly is fast as my phone for searching the internet. The 8’ screen is plenty big and it keeps the tablet compact.
