I've read a lot of reviews regarding Amy's first release and the phrase, "more like jazz", keeps being used. After listening I'd have to say that the most noticeable difference between this album and her following albums is the fact that every song is sang and played with more raw emotion and with more soul holding each track in place. Absent from the beginning is the polished guidance of an overbearing studio producer. The band(s) were left to pour out what was in themselves. Just the way it should be. I'd have to say that this record is a top 20 of "must haves" in anyone's collection, regardless of the label of being, "more jazzy", compared to her later releases.
