Here’s the real explanation: Capacity is listed at the battery's nominal voltage (3.7V–3.85V) Most power banks advertise capacity based on the internal cell voltage (3.7V). So 10,000mAh means the internal cells hold about 37Wh of energy (10,000mAh × 3.7V = 37Wh). Phone charging happens at 5V or 9V (USB standard) When you charge an iPhone, the power bank must boost the voltage from 3.7V to 5V (or 9V). This step-up conversion involves energy loss (the electronics get slightly warm). As a result, the effective capacity at 5V is much lower. 10,000mAh (at 3.7V) ≈ 37Wh At 5V, the same energy gives roughly 7,400mAh (37Wh ÷ 5V) After ~15–20% conversion loss (heat, voltage conversion), you get about 5,400–6,000mAh actually delivered. So the 5,400mAh rating printed on the back is the usable output at 5V Once you factor in all losses and the voltage step‑up, charging an iPhone 16 Pro (which has a ~3,400mAh battery) for about 5,000mAh of delivered output is completely normal—that's roughly 1.2 full charges of the phone.
