I bought this computer to use for college and it is perfect. It is fast, the battery lasts for a while, and is light as air. The speakers are great. The only bummer is you have to buy a separate plug in for flash drives and other things, but it is not a dealbreaker. Overall an excellent computer!

My first Mac Laptop and I love it. I got the gold and its a beauty, the design like all Apple products is amazingly beautiful. Very portable, awesome performance. If you are thinking about buying the new MacBook Air, you should its a great buy, I highly recommend it you will not be disappointed at all.

You going to love the he new design I had the 12 MacBook MacBook a couple of years ago and I loved the style of it but it was slow older stuff but it his new air is perfect and fast and compact do think twice about buying it you’re going to love

Connects easily to my non apple printer. air drop is a lifesaver from my iPhone to pc or vice Versa. I love the size I love the Touch ID I have passwords saved and my fingerprint is what’s needed to use it. Everything is quick simple. I was scared because of the price but it’s well worth it

Early this year, I brought it in my local Best Buy store. I used their Price Match program and got a great deal. Thanks Best Buy. They had the grey version in stock. That's fine because I covered it with a unique Macbook skin. The cooling fan cause problem when editing video. It produces noise. The fingerprint scanner is awful. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't recognize my fingerprints. You will be wasting your time using this security feature. I disabled it because it is unreliable. It is faster to key in your password. I upgraded to MacBook Air from a Macbook 12. I upgraded it even though the MacBook 12 retina display is better than the MacBook Air. Plus the MacBook 12 is more portable than the MacBook Air. However, the new MacBook Air has 2 USB-C ports. It helps.

Very lightweight and portable laptop. It’s fast and runs all of my school related tasks smoothly, as expected. The only thing I dislike about this laptop is the gold color is a fingerprint magnet. Also, the screen itself is difficult to clean and it picks up keyboard imprint marks very easily.

Most of these reviews are from people who just bought the macbook and are excited to use it for the first time. I thought I'd chime in as someone who has now owned my 2018 macbook air for about 6 months: this is a poorly-made machine. First, the keyboard: I had to take the bar exam on this computer within a month or so of purchasing it. It's already a stressful experience, and what I didn't need was additional stress caused by a lagging keyboard that requires me to retype/delete letters all the time. This was a known issue with the butterfly keyboards, so I took it in to get it repaired within a week of having bought it, thinking that would be the end of it. It still wasn't fixed; I learned to live with it. Then, last week, the issue pictured arose, rendering the computer unusable. Keep in mind that I owned my last MacBook Pro for 8 years without ever needing it to take it in for repairs. This computer I've owned only 6 MONTHS and I've had to have it repaired TWICE. Thankfully, because it is still under warranty, I was able to get it repaired (and the keyboard problem re-fixed) for free. I asked the Genius Bar person what I should do if a new problem arises after my warranty expires. She told me, no joke, that I would have to either pay for the repairs myself or "get a different computer." "I know that's not really comforting to hear," she told me. No kidding. There are things to like about this machine--it's light and fast and sleek--but it seems pretty clear to me that it is not very durable for the long-term. If you are used to viewing your macbook as an investment that will last years, I would be wary of buying this machine.

My granddaughter loves it. She starts college fall 2019. Should last her for years.

I had keyboard issues from day one. I had keys that would hit 3 times or not at all. This computer spends a LOT of time thinking. That spinning beachball never stops- and listen, I’m a school counselor. I’m not editing movies and music over here. I’m doing spreadsheets and word documents and this thing couldn’t even handle that. I traded it in for the base model MacBook Pro and it’s a night and day difference. Go Pro. Just trust me. This couldn’t handle the most simple tasks.

This was a gift for my daughter it is a great product that she uses for her videos. It does the job!!

1st time I used a Apple in years..brought back old memories

So far I don’t really like it just because I can’t use it. I am trying to figure out how it runs? It says to chose a certain “icon” for directions but it won’t let me chose it? It could be me doing something wrong and this computer is way to advanced for me. I am considering taking classes with a friend very soon. I’m really hoping it’s me! My niece & daughter really like their Mac Computer’s. One has the Mac the other has the air and both are very satisfied therefore I’m sure it’s my lack of computer skills.

Short version: This computer does everything I need it to do and I really enjoy using it. Those two things are what is important. There is no major lag that I've noticed for my use. The screen is great. The keyboard is fine for me... though the keys are much more shallow that what you'd find on most keyboards. Port selection could be better... you'll need to buy some dongles if you expect to plug anything into this computer. I love it so far. Longer version: When I initially purchased this device, I went through a period of buyer's remorse. This thing is not cheap... and... if you are just looking at specs, there are cheaper options. But, I've decided to judge this computer by the user experience and how effectively it allows me to get my work done... instead of just the numbers on paper. If you are a gamer, this is not your device. If you primarily do something resource intensive like video editing, this 'may' work for you, but you're better off with the MacBook Pro. This is a great "general use" computer. I use it for my college classes and it has yet to let me down. The most intensive thing I do with this computer is occasionally play retro games through emulators. When playing SNES games, the fan really starts to speed up and the computer starts getting a hot. That is honestly the only time I notice the fan. I would expect similar results from other games. Once again, don't buy this for games. My day to day work flow consists of having multiple Chrome browser windows open, using OneNote, iMessage, and a few other little utilities. I frequently have a lot of stuff opened and I often have to switch from desktop to desktop (using Spaces) to get work done. This laptop handles that all without lag. I find the display to be great. I never have the brightness turned up beyond 25%. If you use the laptop outside and in direct sunlight, you might have issues seeing the screen. While using the laptop on my back porch (in the shade), I can see the display just fine. Viewing angles are excellent and colors seem accurate. The MacBook Pro technically has a better display (higher color gamut and brighter), this is fine for most people. It is WAY better than the display on the previous MacBook Air model. The keyboard is different than what you would find on most computers. Although the keys are shallow, key presses give a nice solid click that I enjoy. It isn't quiet... though. In a quiet environment, the clicking and clacking of the keys will certainly travel. But, it isn't that bad. Just go test the keyboard in the store. Trackpad... is amazing. Learn the multi-touch gestures. Trust me. After being able to use a trackpad this large, I don't know if I'll be able to go back to using any other laptop. The port situation isn't awesome... you'll need dongles (adapter) for anything you want to plug into this computer. That is unless you are one of the less than 1% of the population who has switched all of your peripherals to USB-C. You haven't? Buy some adapters. This computer feels extremely high quality and solid. It's minimalist design is part of what makes it so enjoyable to use. It is also very light weight and slim. Of course, you shouldn't expect to be able to easily get into this thing for upgrades. It is intentionally designed to just be a single solid piece of hardware. You won't be able to upgrade or change anything... So, think of it in the same way you would think of an iPad. What you get is what you get. While it isn't perfect, I've grown to really love this laptop.

I've been shopping around for a laptop to replace our HP desktop (over 10 yrs old) and I bought this same model in late spring but with a 128gb hard drive for a soon to be college student. I was amazed on how great it was, the performance, battery life, and how slim it is. I wanted the bigger hard drive however and decided to wait for Black Friday to see if I can score a deal. Well, thanks to BestBuy they had an Apple event sale last month and couldn't believe the price drop. I spent an extra $100 compared to my previous purchase, for an extra 128gb. Sweet! The specs are great. It's pretty fast and convenient for me. Also glad that they went to the USB C Port. Transferring data over is really fast. I know this is one of the cheaper Apple Macbooks and that's fine with me. I don't use this for work, no need for all the fancy specs, blah blah blah. It was just an upgrade for what I previously had and I'm happy with it. If your looking for an upgrade but don't want anything too fancy, then this is for you.

I love this laptop. If I had a single gripe it would be the constraint of only two USB-C ports total, but there are so many ways to work around that inexpensively it really doesn't matter. This laptop gives you speed, crisp display, fast networking, and excellent portability in an attractive, sleek package. The gigantic touch pad gives so much flexibility it doesn't make me want to throw the computer across the room like every PC touch pad I've used. The keyboard is kind of tiny but gives better tactile feedback than I thought it might. MacOS is superior to Windows in every single way, and I've exclusively used Windows for the past 20 years. There's a little bit of a learning curve that just evaporates as you use this laptop. I couldn't recommend spending the money on this machine more.

This laptop is definitely light but any reviewer will tell you that the weight in comparison to Macbook Pros of today does not seem to be enough of a difference to consider this a leap ahead anymore. It's slimness is coming into question too. I am a casual user who just wants to be able to browse the internet and not worry about being exploited as what occurs for windows users more often than not. I wanted that Apple branded security that only they offer because outside of that I wanted a computer I could use more freely for some of my professional activities and not be as concerned with being hacked. Not that Apple is infallible but they are definitely worth it for consumers to invest into. The Butterfly Keyboard 3 takes some getting used to. After months I must admit that I'm so concerned at times with typing to and wearing out the keys that sometimes I miss keys. The resistance of the keys is also throwing me off and while I'm concerned whether they will wear out, a delicate touch is difficult to master. There are reports of people with bad "E" keys and that may be due to typing like cavemen more so than actual failure but time will tell. The battery life on this is awesome. I get 10-12 hours of use and my only grip is you want to leave this sitting and charging for MORE than it needs every time because it seems like it doesn't ever charge to 100% as it'll drop down in percentage (battery life) much faster when you charge and go vs leaving it to charge overnight. The T2 chip is great and until it is hacked it is definitely doing it's job. Makes 3rd party repair nearly impossible but that's your decision to make on whether it's worth it or not. The 8th Gen Intel chip also helps out with security as the 7th Gen and before were compromised. Not something you'll notice in the day to day but it's worth noting. As far as performance, the multi-tasking works just fine and when it comes down to it this is a great daily driver without the Windows performance hangups as it throttles the CPU to prolong battery life. After installed Windows and Parallels I must also say that this laptop handles dual booting just fine as well. The price for this when on sale is the price you want to snag this at. The $1400 price point is simply too high although I do not object to Apple determining a price for themselves as their products, while not as reliable as they once were, tend "just work" as the old saying goes. Their attention to detail adds up with little added costs here and there where as a whole their products outprice competitors but they also outpace them. It is your call but ultimately for the daily driver concept, Apple is worth the extra money.

The most difficult thing about Apple products is that they're so dang consistently good! The latest version of the MacBook Air is exactly what you'd expect - it's just as light, but with better battery life and a better screen that can support full 1080 resolution. TouchID has made my life easier for everything from managing my passwords to making online purchases thanks to iCloud and ApplePay. The new keyboard takes some getting used to, but strangely enough, as I've gotten used to it, I like the feel and it feels weird typing on other keyboards. The switch to USB-C is a bit annoying, particularly since everything I own uses standard USB cables, but have found work-arounds using a USB-C / USB hub and adaptors for those items I don't use regularly. The only annoying thing about the MacBook Air is that it only has 2 USB-C connectors. Otherwise, it's pretty close to perfection!
