A: Yes, this would be a high end option for college. I would recommend if they are going into graphic design, media, or something editing heavy. Otherwise, if it’s just general stuff for class the MacBook Air would be more than sufficient.
A: Technically, "yes", but, The 14″ Pro can be configured with M4 Pro (12‑ or 14‑core CPU, 16‑ or 20‑core GPU). CPU: identical for base M4. GPU: the Pro’s base GPU is beefier (10 cores) than the Air’s entry option (8 cores) The differences between the 14″ MacBook Pro (Apple M4) and the 13″ MacBook Air (Apple M4) aren’t just size and resolution—there are important distinctions in processor options, display tech, cooling, port selection, battery... So yes, same base CPU, but the Pro brings much more in GPU, display, cooling, and expansion. (keep in mind that the Air is fanless, so it will perform less than the MB Pro)

Powerful machine with great display!
What I really like: • Performance is excellent. It handles multiple apps, browser tabs, video editing, and heavier tasks without slowing down. It feels snappy, even under load. • The display is superb. The Liquid Retina XDR screen offers rich color, great contrast, and brightness that works well even in bright rooms. Watching videos or editing photos/videos is a pleasure. • Battery life holds up well in typical use (web browsing, writing, video streaming). I find I can easily get through a workday without needing the charger. • Build quality & ports are very solid. MagSafe charging, HDMI, the SD card reader, and the Thunderbolt ports all make it convenient. The keyboard is comfortable, trackpad feels precise. Where there are a few drawbacks: • The base storage model (512 GB) has lower SSD performance compared to larger storage options — file transfers or very large media workloads are noticeably slower when compared to higher-capacity versions. • Under heavy load, the laptop gets warm and the fans can kick in; it’s not noisy enough to be distracting all the time, but you will notice them in more demanding tasks. • For some, the price is steep, especially with Apple’s premium; worth it if you’ll use the power, display, and build quality, but possibly overkill for lighter or more basic tasks. Bottom line: This is a wonderful machine if you want a high-quality laptop that delivers strong performance, excellent display, and good battery life.
