This may be the best season of Archer yet. A must have for a Archer collector.

My 30 year old nephew had never before watched an episode of Archer. We binge watched several episodes. We laughed. We cringed (the shows were slightly more bloody than expected). The DVDs were fine. We enjoyed listening to the commentary in the Special Features section. It provided good background on why some of the characters were written as they were. It was good fun that didn't cost a lot.

I love this series, but since Season 7 it's been too many altered story lines. Season 8 starts the trend and unfortunately it also starts the trend of diminishing meta-humor which we've grown to love. The old gags are there, but they're no longer evolving (things like "earballs", and "sploosh" are left out for those who are familiar with Archer). The characters are there, but they're in different roles. The series works best spoofing the espionage genre and PI isn't super far from that, but you will notice something lacking if you contrast it to seasons 1-6. The good news is Barry's back, and those who love Arrested Development will recognize some more familiar voices. Far and away my biggest gripe is there is no Blu-ray alternative. If you want to own Archer now, you have to buy a DVD. I feel like we've jumped back 20 years to 1999. Why Fox decided to start putting series on DVD instead of hi-def is absurd to think about. Anybody who wants to own the series wants it in the best picture possible because the series shines in HD. Audio is also lacking compared to the other seasons on BR. Really this is only for people who are longtime fans and/or want a complete collection. If you are just getting into the series, do yourself a favor and pick up the other seasons on Blu-ray first. Get this one when you have a gift card, or during a big Black Friday sale. So-so recommendation.
