Q: Do I need a subscription to view and record?
A: Technically NO, but you loose a lot of camera functions without a subscription. Without a subscription, your camera will record but it will record to a base station if you have one, your recordings will not go to your app feeds, so you cannot see your recordings from the app. I still have a pro 2 and those recordings show up on my app feed still ( no subscription), the pro 5s will not. Do some diligent research, before you buy.
Q: what are the differences with the Arlo 4?

Q: Have 3 Arlo pro 4 can I mix and match w new Arlo pro 5? Do I need another base station
A: Yes you can mix and match cameras. I currently have Arlo Pros (the very old ones @ 720p) + multiple Pro 4s, an Arlo wired doorbell and the Pro 5S 2k ALL on my original base - VMB4000. You do NOT need a base for the Pro 5S 2k - but I decided to use it rather than just adding it to WiFi.
Q: What would be the distance range that I could put this and see a live feed??
A: You can place your Arlo camera a maximum of 300 feet (90 meters) from the SmartHub or Router. The maximum line-of-sight range of 300 feet is reduced by each wall, ceiling, or other major obstruction between the camera and SmartHub or Router.
A: If you subscribe to the monthly subscription, you can delete the whole day at once. cost is $13.77 with tax per month. Well worth it.
A: Continuous video recording (CVR) is an optional feature for Arlo cameras. With CVR activated on one of your cameras, you can record 24/7. CVR allows you to rewind so you can catch anything you missed. When you have a CVR subscription, you can access either 14 or 30 days of continuous video recordings.
A: The Arlo Pro 5S 2k Cameras are compatible with the magnetic mounts.
A: The Arlo Pro 5 can connect to any 2.4 or 5 GHz wireless connection, an Arlo Base Station is not required. Once connected, you can view the Arlo Pro 5 camera from your phone from anywhere

So-so for Arlo
I have had 9 arlo cameras. My 5 before this add are fine. The first batch has timed out. These are a great picture. Come with external batteries. 4 included for 3 cameras. Great plus. But the build quality is not up to par. The mechanism that pushes the battery compartment open is fragile and broken on one of my cameras. Hopefully they will replace it. The holders wont move alot so view and placement is limited. I dont believe you can change mounts. The were a so so deal for 199$. But they are definitely not worth 400$ on quality. Things are just getting cheaper and cheaper quality. Always be wary on pricing. Marginal yes on recommend!!
