Q: Does this S34 run hot? as so many have reported the S33 to get hot enough to shut down,
A: It gets warm, not hot. It has never shut down.
A: Yes - but they won't be very helpful if you need support since it's a BYOD modem. Here's a quick cheat sheet based on my experience: 1. Does the light turn solid blue? If yes, you have a cable connection. 2. When connected directly (no router), check your _gateway_ ip. If it is 192.168.1.100 you do not yet have a DHCP lease from Cox. 3. If your gateway IP is anything else, then you have a DHCP lease and Cox is able to provide service. (even if they claim otherwise) 3a. If you have a Cox IP AND DNS IP's then you _should_ be able to reach the internet. If you cannot, it means you are in the "Cox internet captive portal" and there are issues with provisioning. (again, even if they claim otherwise). I hope these pointers help someone get through the madness that is COX internet support. Sincerely, Someone who was a cable tech at one point.

This modem supports upto 2.5Ghz speeds. This will future proof my home network for next 10 years. The setup process is pretty straightforward. You need to contact your ISP and provide them with the modem’s MAC Address (found on modem). They’ll add the modem to your account and activate it for you. Once the modem is activated, its time to test. I recommend connecting an Ethernet cable from the modem to computer’s Ethernet. Run a speed test (speedtest.net) and make sure not only that its working but also to ensure you are getting the download speed you are paying for. In my case, I have Astound Broadband and paying for 500Mbs. When I ran a speed test, i was blown away! I’m actually consistently getting a little over 600Mbs download speed. If you ask me, thats pretty impressive! I highly recommend the Arris S34 modem as part of your home network.

Finally needed to replace my old Motorola surfboard modem which we had for many years, saving hundreds of $$$ over renting from Xfinity. But it could not deliver the speeds anymore. This new S34 I expect will keep up for many more years. I installed it in a cabinet and it was getting reaaly warm, enough to concern me. So I put some little 12v fans on top, even without venting the cabinet the modem is running cool now, no problems.

I have used it as a replacement to my Xfinity modem and it is working as expected. You need to pair it up with a router for WiFi connection. I used my old to link router along with it
