ASUS - TUF GAMING X870-PRO WIFI7 W NEO (Socket AM5) AMD X870 ATX DDR5 Wi-Fi 7 Motherboard - White

I built a new gaming PC for myself about a week ago, mostly because my old rig couldn't keep up anymore and I wanted something that would last a while without needing to be gutted and rebuilt every year. I went with the ASUS TUF Gaming X870-Pro WiFi7 W Neo in white, paired with a Ryzen 7 7700X. I am not the guy who chases the newest and shiniest thing just to have it. I wanted something solid, easy to work with, and future proof enough that I am not back in this position in eighteen months. First impressions were good. The board looks sharp right out of the box. The white and silver color scheme is clean and it actually matches the rest of my build instead of fighting with it. I have had boards before that looked fine in photos and then clashed with everything once installed. This one did not do that. If you are building in a case with a glass panel, this board earns its keep just sitting there looking good, which matters more to me than I expected going in. A week in, the day to day use has been smooth. Setup was straightforward for someone who has built a few PCs but is not doing this for a living. The board recognized my drives right away and BIOS navigation was not a headache, which I appreciate since I do not enjoy digging through menus at eleven at night trying to get memory timings right. Everything just worked the way it was supposed to, which is really all I am asking for at this stage of life. The four M.2 slots are the real standout for me. I am someone who ends up needing more storage than I planned for, so having that much room to grow without buying an add in card is a relief. I added two drives right away and know I have room for two more down the line whenever I need them. It makes the board feel expandable in a way that actually matters instead of just being a spec sheet number that never gets used. WiFi 7 has been the other big win. My internet speeds at home went up noticeably once I paired this with a WiFi 7 router. That part matters though, because if your router is still on WiFi 6 or older you will not see the benefit. I had to upgrade my router at the same time to actually take advantage of it, so budget for that if you go this route. Once both pieces were in place, the connection has been fast and steady, no dropouts so far, even with a few devices pulling on the network at once. The one thing I am not crazy about is how much the TUF branding shows up on the board itself. It is stamped across the heatsinks and printed in a few spots that feel like more than necessary. It does not affect performance at all, it is just a personal preference thing. I would rather the design lean a little more understated, especially since the rest of the board already looks good without needing to remind you what it is called every few inches. Overall, after a week, I am happy with this choice. It handles day to day use without any hiccups, the storage options give me real room to grow, and the WiFi 7 support is a legitimate upgrade if your network can keep up with it. I would recommend this to anyone building a clean looking, expandable AM5 system who wants a board that will hold up for the next several years without having to think about it again.

I have built many custom PCs over the years, majority with ASUS motherboards and plenty of overclocking. This ASUS - TUF GAMING X870-PRO WIFI7 W NEO (Socket AM5) AMD X870 ATX DDR5 Wi-Fi 7 Motherboard - White is a very well engineered and excellent build. It is using an eight-layer server class PCB for stable performance when pushed to the limits of today’s demanding games and compute. My current setup is very stable, runs cool and quiet also thanks to a MAG Coreliquid 240 White liquid cooled radiator and fans that I reused from my previous system. I invested in the AMD Ryzen 9 9950x3d that should be good for a few years of high performance gaming and everything else I throw at it. I had to re-purpose a year old NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti for now until I can afford an RTX 5090, but so far everything I run on this setup is flawless. This motherboard has a crazy number of internal and external ports that will satisfy any gamer, power user or peripheral lover alike. It also has the latest PCI 5.0 slots, two of the latest gen5 M.2 NVMe slots as well as 2 PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots. External connectivity is in abundance with USB4 as in 40Gbps ports, in addition to 20 Gbps USB Type-C connector with 30W fast-charging capabilities, and the three classic USB 2.0 connectors. As for network connectivity, it has a built-in 5 Gb Ethernet, but unfortunately I only have a 2Gb fiber Internet connection and my network switch is only 2.5 Gb, so I can’t test it to its full potential. Wi-Fi 7 comes with a pre-installed driver so you can easily install Windows and get on the network before you have to download more drivers. The Asus external Wi-Fi Q-Antenna has a nice magnetic touch, and will guarantee much better reception since you can position it on top of the case or a less obstructive location. Tons of USB ports of various versions built-in to the back panel I/O, and internal headers for case ports: 2 x USB-C 4, 1 x USB-C 3.2, 7 x USB-A 3.2, 1 x USB-A 2.0, 1 x USB-C 4 2.0. Modern UEFI BIOS with tons of tweaking/overclocking features ASUS is well known for and last but not least a feature I have not seen on any other motherboard yet - Clear CMOS and BIOS Flashback little buttons to easily get you out of an Overclocking bind without having to open the case to jumper pins to reset your faulty/too aggressive settings. The VRM power distribution and filtering is top-notch with 16(80A)+2(80A)+1(80A) SPS power stage, 8-layer PCB, 8+8 pin ProCool power connectors for stable power delivery. Nowadays, everything must have some sort of AI built-in or support future AI functionality. This Asus TUF Gaming X870-Pro is no exception. A number of AI features are built-in to the massive 64 MB BIOS to enhance Overclocking, Cooling and Networking performance. And speaking of overclocking, with the right specialized memory this Asus motherboard can push the memory up to 9,600 MT/s. Overall, I’m really excited about this Asus TUF Gaming X870-Pro Wi-FI 7 motherboard and the limitless capabilities it offers for years to come, not to mention it comes with a 3-year warranty - a testament to ASUS quality and confidence in their products.

TLDR; It’s a rough time to be building a system given the market, but boards are one of the few components that have not completely shot up in price yet, and this is a nice choice to do some selective upgrades with (or a new build with if you are in that position). To get it out of the way at the start, the TUF branding has never been my favorite aesthetically. I know it is sort of the point, but it is a bit “gamery” and “in your face” for me. Always has been. Further, while I really think the white looks minimal, clean, and honestly fantastic, I will always prefer plain and blacked out. I suppose some would say boring. I also simply do not have white components to match with it. It’s a personal thing. This is a nice-looking board, just not perfect for me. All of that said, I have always been impressed with the build quality and performance of the TUF line, across the board and specifically with motherboards. Here, it is much the same. The board is very well built (sturdy, put together well, concern for thermals (VRM, M.2, capacitors)), nicely spaced out, and designed well. I think it is very easy to build with and user friendly with quick releases and toolless access everywhere and plentiful fan headers. On the software side as well, with a clear CMOS button and easy to work with and update BIOS. All in all, I am happy and you can tell there was some consideration put into this board. Beyond that though, I think this board really shines with its feature set. It offers CPU flexibility, PCIe 5, Wi-Fi 7 (with antenna), 5 GbE internet, dual USB4, and 4 M.2 slots. These are all things I was looking for, and while I think most of these should generally be expected these days, they are still nice to see. As are 4 memory slots allowing for a max of 256GB of RAM and 2 SATA (I still use one). Further, the ports and connectivity are somewhat ridiculous (2 x USB-C 4, 1 x USB-C 3.2, 7 x USB-A 3.2, 1 x USB-A 2.0, 1 x USB-C 4 2.0) As someone coming from a less robust board, I really appreciate this. I think they made smart choices and that a wide range of users should be covered and happy here. In the end, I think this is a quality board and I like it, even if I still just wish it was matte blacked out. It is very easy to build with, well-built, and probably most importantly to me, comes equipped with a strong set of features. I think it has a nice blend of current capability and future flexibility. I think that, along with all you get, delivers solid value, especially given the current state of the market.

When ASUS puts their minds to building a high-end motherboard, there aren't that many out there who can top them. And this motherboard is a great example of that high-end, even if the name (TUF Gaming X870-Pro WIFI7 W Neo) is a bit of a mouthful. Behind the name, this is a top notch full-sized ATX board that is meant for those seeking great performance and connectivity...and a whole lot of storage. The white color of the board is a nice touch that fits well with the plethora of white case options for a light colored build. Building around the board was quite easy with the standard AM5 socket retention bracket and cooling mount (which is of course removable if you use a cooler that requires a backplate). The four memory slots are also fairly standard and the power and front panel connections are where you would expect them (including both USB-A 5Gbps and USB-C 20Gbps options). You do get a LOT of M.2 slots (with 4 total on the front of the board, including three with built-in heat sinks. Note that only two of these are PCIe 5.0, the other two are 4.0 which is fine for bulk storage and most use cases. Due to the large number of M.2 / SSD slots, you do only get 2 expansion slots - 1 PCIe 5.0 x16 and 1 PCIe 4.0 which is x4 but in an x16 slot size. This is generally fine as most people will use a GPU in one and likely nothing in the other unless you need faster networking or some other specialized card. Back panel connectivity is strong with 2x USB 4.0 / 40Gbps USB-C ports, and 8x USB-A ports ranging from USB 2.0 to 10Gbps. You get HDMI out for those using an APU vs a GPU, 5Gbps ethernet, connection points for the WiFi 7 antena and the standard audio jacks. In my testing, the motherboard not only was easy to build on, but easy to get up and running as well with the latest drivers and software. The software enables a lot of "AI" features that help with everything from basics to boost networking and such to advanced features that heavily optimize performance to your preferences. Once you're up and running the board is stable and generally just works - which is really what you want from a motherboard. The biggest thing that excited me about this motherboard was the easy slot releases built in for the graphics card and the M.2 slot. Serious graphics cards these days are so chunky it feels impossible to get my fingers into the computer with enough force to pop out the card if needed. This conveniently placed latch pops out above the PCB making it way easier to release and pull the card out. Same for the M.2, no longer having to stick a screwdriver in there or remove the GPU to get the drive out is an absolute blessing. This motherboard has incredible power capabilities to ensure that your system will always perform as high as you can push it. Ample power for the power hungry CPU like the Ryzen 9900X3D ensure my computer can run the games at peak FPS in 4K whilst also streaming in the background. Speaking of power, having access to a 30W charger via my computer is absolutely insane and awesome. I don't need to worry about making sure my phone charges every night because I can get a full charge in less than an hour whilst getting some gaming time in in the process. Wireless keyboards, mice, and headphones all charge at an incredible rate. These USB C ports also support up to 40Gbps data transfers for moving huge files in no time at all. I prefer to run wired connections for my internet and in the growing age of fiber, this motherboard has me covered with a 5Gbps port, but if that's not enough for you it also supports WiFi 7 with an included antenna for pushing a maximum of 46Gbps if you're lucky enough to have that kind of internet. Finally, I love the dedication to the all white and silver aesthetic. It leans all in for that pristine bright build to reflect all the RGB you can cram into your case. Perfect to start with a blank canvas and customize the computer your own way. Eight USB ports on the back leave plenty of room for external drives, wireless dongles, and other audio/video peripherals.
