The switch version compared to the PS4 version is not that big of a difference, and I don't think you will notice a whole lot of difference. Gameplay is solid fun, with basically just more of the same with some new stuff added in. I wouldn't pay full price for this, but on sale this game is a must-have in any JRPG collection. Buy it now, especially if you can find it on sale on switch for skyrockets and price.

got this game for my wife. like it but seems to be missing chinese language from this switch version. the Steam/pc version offers chinese but not on the switch. my wife loves to craft items

Atelier Sophie 2 is a solid entry in the Atelier series. If you haven’t played an Atelier game before, this is a JRPG with a strong emphasis on crafting over combat. In fact, the combat takes a backseat to the crafting (or alchemy as it is called). The story is fun, but it’s not a traditional “bad guy destroying the world” intensity story— this is more low key. The characters are very anime-style in a the sense they are all common tropes, but their design and art are really nice, and if you like the art style, you’ll enjoy the aesthetics and graphics of the game. The music is great and the gameplay loop is fun if you like crafting, so I give the game overall an 8/10. That being said, I would still start with Ryza.

The Atelier games are such a treat, and this game does not diss appoint. The high price of the DLC is off putting, but that doesn’t take away from this physical version.

A very sweet, heartwarming story with lovable characters and colorful artwork! Crafting new items and weapon/armor builds has always been a favorite activity of mine in RPGs. To have a whole game with an in-depth mechanic dedicated to it was delightful! The ability to fastforward through cutscenes was great for replay value, too.

Really good. Looks good and has a fast turn based combat system. The loading time when starting up the game is a little long but that is the only time. I’ve played about 25 hours at the time of writing this review. This is a great casual game and a great addition to the Atelier series.

There was a horrible shipping issue with Ontrac shipping but through the fourms i was able to get the help of a corp. rep named Rich. He handled my issue with no problem; then the game wasn't avaliable at my local store so i had it shipped and I LITERALLY got it the next morning via USPS. Best Buy corporate is truly the best.

Cool jrpg with lots of collecting and crafting. Is it the best game I’ve ever played? Nah, but it’s relaxing and a solid play.

This is by far the best Atelier game yet. Takes fewer risks than Ryza 1 and 2 by sticking with turn-based combat. Also unless you set it to "easy" the combat is no cakewalk, with plenty of boss fights and bosses that can easily take out an unprepared player. Unlike some games where you need to grind levels and skills in this game it's the usable items and equipment that greatly determine your ability to win battles. There are some basic combat strategies but it is mainly about having a variety of good items and judiciously using skills and other character abilities. The story or plot behind the game is top notch, character development is pretty good and the characters are generally likable though they can be annoying at times. The crafting system is straightforward and requires dropping shapes onto a tetris-like board to form links, while this can be a bit tedious it pays to take the time and do it yourself for the best items, rather than rely on the game to do it automatically. The gathering system is straightforward like in the other games, where you generally need good gathering tools to get good materials and an occasional minigame based around gathering that you can play to try to optimize the materials you get (these are uncommon and only happen at certain gathering spots, maybe several per map at most).
Awesome game. I like to play it. Totally naly, dudes!

This game is fun, but it really drags on at times, as though the developers were trying to increase the playtime with poor mechanics that result in grinding and backtracking. Really enjoyed it when I started it, but was tired of it by the end.
