Aventon - Sinch Foldable Ebike w/ 40 mile Max Operating Range and 20 MPH Max Speed - Cloud Grey

It’s worth noting first that unlike Aventon's other bikes, this one is "One Size" suited for most people from 5' to 6'3". I'm about 5'10" if you want to use my picture for reference. So unfortunately for those outside those recommended sizes, you won't be able to enjoy the perks this particular model offers. PROS: - It's an ebike that's foldable and portable! - Throttle from full stop - Powerful - Fat tires to handle terrain better - Battery sits inside the frame CONS: - One size - Heavy/Unwieldy - Precarious when folded DESIGN After lifting the folded Sinch out of the box, I marveled at its beauty as I unraveled it piece by piece. It’s just a stunning, sleek looking bike. My biggest selling point on this model was its folding, storage and transportation capabilities. Despite being heavy, I personally didn’t have too much trouble moving or folding the bike. It’s quick to fold/unfold but it certainly can be a challenge. The frame has some good holding points but there is nothing that keeps it folded together so I suggest using a bungee cord when lifting and moving. For some this all may be tough without some help. A great idea someone shared was to buy a tote to put the bike in that eliminates these concerns and makes moving it way easier. These things may seem daunting but the convenience completely outweighs the work to get it ready. I have nowhere to store a bike, nor do I have a place to store a bike rack for my car. The Sinch easily fits into my SUV and garage when folded so it’s completely worth it. It’s heavy yes, but the construction is extremely solid. With the 20x4in fat tires it just looks and feels like a beast. You have a fully functioning, portable ebike that can handle more than the average terrain and the only compromise is weight. There are a few other features I really like. An additional perk of it being able to be folded is the fact that the battery is on the inside of the frame offering better protection for it compared to the other models where the battery is on the outside. There are numbers on the seat-post, seat and handlebars which is convenient in case you have multiple users or need to adjust for folding. COMFORT I felt very comfortable on the bike. The grips have a lot of texture and feel good in the hands, I don’t feel like the pedals slip at all and the seat feels good. It isn’t until the hour mark when I start feeling any discomfort in my rear-end which is pretty respectable. Each person will have different feelings or preferences on these things but they suit me well. All of this can always be upgraded later. I was able to adjust the placement of everything on the bike including the controls to really make the bike my own. I really do feel like the front suspension makes a difference, too. I have rolled over everything thus far (including dirt and gravel) without a second thought or any noticeable impact in my arms. PERFORMANCE After riding it once to get the seat and handlebar placement down I had several concerns so I took it to a bike shop for a look over. I’m glad I did and I recommend anyone to do so when buying direct. Don’t let the small tires fool you, this thing has power. Since the bike is as heavy as it is, it can be slightly difficult to get moving from a stand still on terrain or a slight incline. Aventon now allows this model to use throttle from a standstill, which is just the perfect boost you need to get started. Once you're moving everything is smooth going. There are a lot of turns around my neighborhood so I often found myself constantly having to slow down because I just always felt like I was going so fast. The acceleration takes a second to kick in but once it does you’re up to speed in no time. The throttle is quite soft and took some getting used to but I felt like I had a lot of control using it. The breaks are very responsive and stopping is just as quick so I never felt like stopping from higher speeds was an issue, either. I was very impressed with how it handled hills, too. The steepest hill I encountered so far was about a 20-25% grade and I went up it in PAS 1 like it was nothing. Handling also felt great. While the handlebars aren’t as wide for what I assume is to retain the small profile, I didn’t find it much of an issue turning. Sometimes I felt like I couldn’t take too tight of turns because of it but I just managed my speed so it wasn’t a big deal. Some may want to replace them with something wider depending on your stature. One thing that surprised me is how much I had to change the gears along with the PAS to maintain proper cadence, even with PAS 1. It seems areas with more turns and frequent stop and go you’ll need to constantly adjust. It will just take some getting used to I’m sure. But even with all the pulling of levers and button pushing I was able to still handle the bike well while keeping my eyes on the road. FLAWS As great as it all is, it does have a couple of notable design flaws. First, mounting the M5 display in the center above the post as shown and intended isn't ideal. With the way they manufacture the mount, not only does it prevent you from pivoting it more towards you because of the handlebar lock and wires coming out the back of the screen, it blocks the handlebar lock itself from opening fully. I had no choice but to leave it because I have other accessories added (or plan to) that occupies either side of the handlebars. Your solutions are to move the display to the side taking up valuable space, add a handlebar extension in front or replace with wider handlebars. It seems quite an oversight. Second, when folded and sitting on it's built-in stand it's not entirely secure. It can pretty easily be knocked over towards one side if that side isn't up against a wall. I have more on this issue below. Overall these are not deal-breakers and can be easily solved with alternatives. Another small detail is it would have been really nice if the M5 display had a memory feature for the odometer. Trip A & B resets every time the display turns off. Because of this, you can't keep track of how much you rode in a given ride, let alone a day unless you continuously ride long enough before it turns off automatically. I wish you could manually reset it on your time but maybe a firmware update later will allow you to utilize the Trips. CONCLUSION The Aventon Sinch really does give you everything an ebike can while also being portable with reasonably little sacrifice. Not only that, but it looks amazing and doesn’t compromise style despite being a foldable bike. You wouldn’t even know it can fold just by looking at it. If the minor flaws I mentioned are an issue to you than you could rate this bike slightly lower. But because they become marginal with the solutions available, it deserves full marks. Aside from everything Aventon stands behind it’s products and I can attest to that. They absolutely respect their warranty in case of any problems. As a bonus the bike came with an extra derailleur hanger and a hex multi-tool which is both helpful and nice of them. The tool is not amazing but it gets the job done and great to keep with you for emergencies. After you buy I suggest joining a few Aventon groups on social media. The community is great and very helpful. If you have a question or looking for accessory recommendations, do a search and you will most likely find the answer you are looking for. I learned so much before my Sinch even arrived. WARNINGS/DISCLAIMERS/TIPS I've read to be cautious of the stand when folded. People have mentioned their Sinch accidentally tipped over on the stand crushing the M5 display. Some move the location of the screen to off center on the handlebars so it folds if it falls as opposed to crushing. Unfortunately, the display is non-removable from its mount which would have been an easy fix. You can find 3D printed cases for the M5 online. After recommendations I purchased a case as well as a tote for transportation and I would also suggest you do as well. Something else to consider before purchasing is making sure it is permitted where you want to ride. I was surprised to find I couldn't ride the Sinch in many places around me I thought I could. Some parks with trails simply don't allow ebikes, others only allow class 1 whereas the Sinch is a class 2. People have made suggestions around this but do such at your own risk. Make sure to check all your local park and trail regulations.

The Aventon Sinch is a foldable ebike that is advertised as being able to go 40 miles on a charge and up to 20 mph. The bike has seven gears, dual disc brakes. When you receive the bike, it is assembled completely. You’ll need to remove some padding and charge the battery but otherwise it’s ready to go. I saw another reviewer mention that didn’t receive the screws for the display and I had the experience. One warning I will give is that the bike is heavy. Aventon’s website advertises the bike at 68 pounds. It may be too heavy for some people to transport so just keep that in mind. The Sinch is incredibly well built and very solid. Nothing about this bike feels cheap. The Sinch is visually amazing. The photos on the website do not compare to what the bike actually looks like. It looks like a very top end bike and feels like it as well. I definitely had people looking during my few rides. I’m 5’8” and the bike adjusted to a perfect height for my riding. The display that showcases speed, battery life, and distance is large and easy to see during the day, while not being too bright at night. You can also showcase lifetime miles and trip miles which I think is a nice feature. While riding, there’s a throttle on the left handle so you can ride without peddling. I was able to hit 19.8 mph with throttle only so it goes as fast as advertised. There’s 5 different levels of peddle assist. I have a few photos showing speeds at different peddle assist levels. Those speeds were at what I consider to be a normal peddling speed. There’s a lot of pick up at peddle assist level one and it gets greater the more you go. You can also forego the assist and ride on your own. Another really nice feature of the Sinch are the 4 inch fat tires. The ride feels so smooth and stable. I took the bike on an off-road dirt path and never once felt wobbly. The tires ate up that dirt path. The front shock also are great for absorbing bumping terrain. If you’re reading this review you’re most likely interested in the folding aspect of the bike. I’ve included a few photos of the bike folded. It’s doesn’t get too small while folded but it should be able to fit in most trunks to take to trails or mountains if you’re looking to do that. The battery is removable when folded. That’s a great feature for me. Living in Arizona my garage gets really hot so I can keep the battery inside to prolong its life. I can’t really do justice for how great this bike is. It looks absolutely amazing, assembly is super easy, it rides smooth, the peddle assist is powerful, the tires provide great stability and the folding aspect allows for ultimate transportation. If you’re looking for a easy to transport ebike, do yourself a favor and check out Aventon Sinch.

Product arrived well packaged, was quite easy to unpackage and setup. Took less than 30 minutes to have it fully functional (apart from charging) and ready for use. I charged it for a little over 4 hours before the battery indicated full. Impressions on first use: 1. Operated perfectly. Bike did not require any additional adjustments. 2. Gears shifted seamlessly and smoothly. Hand controls are like other bikes so no learning curve. 3. Brakes functioned as expected and stoped the bike nicely from the 20-mph top speed. 4. Electric motor provides adequate power and operates by extremely easy controls. Select the level of assistance desired and away you go! 5. Leisure pedaling maintains a speed of approximately 10-mph. 6. Throttle response smooth and predictable. 7. Battery strength appears to provide rated distances. After 5 miles of the initial ride charge indicated barely moved. More distance testing will be a pleasure. 8. Unit folds nicely, would probably fit in most trunks. It fits great inside our RV. If there is a downside it would be the weight. Heavy at 68 pounds it’s not the easiest to lug around. It takes up less space than my standard size Ebike. 9. If you’ve never ridden an e-bike with 20” x 4.0” fat tires, it’s as close to a two-wheel version of a go-kart as you can get, and I mean loads of fun I contacted support via a chat-line. Due to Covid manning, telephone landlines are not available right now but as Covid restrictions are lifted they expect them to reopen. They responded quickly to my text chat request. He was quick to point out that if he couldn’t resolve my issue that another support person would call on the landline. I didn’t require any servicing, so we chatted in general. Accessories are available for this bike online. I’m 6 foot and weigh 190 lbs. Bike adjust and rides smoothly with plenty of power. It would adjust to accommodate a taller person. My wife is 5 foot 2 and after adjusting to her size I would suggest that is about as short and still be comfortable on stopping without leaning over to reach the ground. Overall, you get a lot of bang for your buck here. There are certainly cheaper folding, fat-tire bikes out there but compared to the ones I’ve seen, not with this level of quality. If you’re in the market for an E-bike I would highly recommend this bike but at the very least, you should include this in your short list of selections. Superior product with excellent quality and workmanship!
