Putting "Excellent" for plot and acting is kind of cheating since there isn't any plot or acting. That is likely the biggest hurdle most people will have to get over to enjoy this stunning film. Shot in 70mm, there is no dialogue, not even a narrator; the film is entirely comprised of just the audio and video of what was shot. But oh, what incredible wonders the camera did capture. And despite there not being a traditional story, there are certainly many themes touched upon throughout the film's runtime. The blu-ray's audio/visual quality is impeccable. It is truly a demo-worthy disc.

If you've got a really expensive TV and a very loud sound system, this is a reference-quality Blu-ray. The original 65mm negatives were scanned at 8K resolution, which you'd initially concur doesn't matter on a 1080p Blu-ray, but here we are and it turns out you're wrong. So invite all your friends over to see this thing, and get an expensive TV if you don't already have one.

This film will not be for everyone, as it is a story told through visuals, without dialogue. This does not mean that it is non-narrative. There is a definite point of view and linear progression to the film. The cinematography is absolutely stunning, and the juxtaposition of images are quite startling and innovative at times. My only quibble, and a minor one at that, is the lack of disc extras, outside of an informative making-of documentary.

This is the first film ever digitally scanned at the 8k resolution, that alone warrants any collector, including 4K UHD collectors, to get this disc! I wish this had HDR but it still looks fantastic, there isn’t talk to have this rereleased in 4K so I would get this while you can!

A showcase blu-ray. Mastered in 8K ! If you let it happen, this unusual film taps into a different part of the brain. It can be watched again and again and you will have a different experience each time.

This review is based on the DVD version of this film. I'm eagerly awaiting the release of the Blu-Ray. From what I've heard, it's gonna be the pinnacle of picture and sound. This film has no plot and will have a different meaning for all that watch it. There's no script or narration just picture, sound, and music. The film is about life. The most incredible cinematography showing the many beautiful and ugly sides of the world we live in. This is not your typical movie, nor is it a typical documentary. If you appreciate amazing photography and want a feast for your eyes and ears, I urge you to give this film a look.

Being a subscriber to Netflix, I have no real reason to own a DVD collection. After reading Baraka reviews, I made an exception and I am glad I did. This DVD was produced using the highest of production values regarding audio and video. You are taken on a journey to some wonderful, far away places that any well traveled person will recall and appreciate. Great for meditation and to simply escape. If you can rent the BR DVD and I am pretty sure that you will not only want to add (or start) to your collection, you will want to share the experience with friends and family.

I just recently purchased this film on Bluray after reading a intriguing review of it how wonderful both the audio and video experience were. I wish I would have purchased this sooner. It is simply wonderful. For a movie with no conventional plot, I was enthralled. It is a wonderful experience, and I'd imagine each viewer would take something different from their viewing. Simply a powerful statement of life on our planet.

The Videography and Cultural History was top notch. I having a new Samsung 720P Plasma was blown away. This was played on My PS3 using Monster lightspeed 100 Audio (Optical) and Monster M series HDMI cable for Picture. Not to mention some nice audio quality as well. Most audio was front stage but a couple surprises from rear. Enjoy
