Beethoven - Karl Bohm Conducts Mozart & Beethoven - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

Karl Bohm was born in Graz, Austria, on the 28th of August 1894. Upon leaving school, he moved to Vienna for a year where, at the Staatsoper, he heard Leo Slezak, Carl Burrian and Enrico Caruso, and was thunderstruck by their art. In truth, it is curious to note that the main part of his autobiography is dedicated to lyric artists, song and opera, most unusual for a pupil of Eusebius Mandyczewski and the heir apparent to the great German instrumental tradition. This features Bohm conducting great staples of his repertoire, including works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann. Recorded between 1951 and 1963, these recordings capture a master at the peak of his career. Soloists heard on these legendary recordings include Wilhelm Backhaus, Enrico Mainardi, Wolfgang Schneiderhan, and more. Album Tracks 1. Allegro (Cadenza Di Askenase) 2. Andante - Allegretto Tranquillo - Andante 3. Allegro Vivace Assai (Cadenza Askenase) 4. Allegro 5. Adagio Un Poco Moto - Attacca 6. Piano Concerto No. 5 in E Flat Major ('Emperor'), Op. 73 Rondo. Allegro 7. Allegro 8. Andante - Allegretto Tranquillo - Andante 3. Concerto for Violin, Cello & Orchestra in a Minor ('Double'), Op. 102 Vivace Non Troppo 10. Allegro Affettuoso 11. Beethoven / Mozart - Overtures & Entertaining Concert Pieces - COMPACT DISCS [CD]

The focus of this impressive is not only the stunning performance by the Staatskapelle Dresden, but the audiophile-quality sound engineering InchReal live recording - without a safety net, so to speak, without sound engineers in dark horn-rimmed glasses and white coats - belongs to the days of direct cutting to cylinder in the early days of sound recording up to the introduction of magnetic tape after World War II. From that moment on, editing and manipulation became the order of the day - indeed, it is clearly audible on many LPs and may often cause some amusement... In the short period during which the Direct-to-Disc process was in use, in the 1970s, the aim was to transfer purist recordings to LP without tape noise - mainly in the area of jazz - and this produced some recordings that are hailed even today as ground-breaking and legendary. Made using just one single microphone, these Electrola shellac recordings remain, after a process of careful and time-consuming restoration, a benchmark to this day when it comes to motivation, joy of musicmaking and a determination to give the best performance possible on the part of the musicians, the orchestra, the conductor and the sound engineers. This is perceptible on nearly all the tracks on this album. And the conductor Karl Böhm was surely seldom in such good spirits, so carefree - brisk in his tempi - and yet simultaneously so sensitive in imparting subtle messages. All in the hope that the crackling needle will leave some of the sound for the restoration process...Inch (Sound engineer Holger Siedler) Album Tracks 1. Ouvertüre Aus Die Fledermaus 2. Zwischenaktmusik Aus Tausend Und Eine Nacht 3. Ouvertüren Aus Die Entfuhrung Aus Dem Serail 4. Ouvertüren Aus Die Hochzeit Des Figaro 5. Leonoren-Ouvertüre NR. 3 6. Egmont-Ouvertüre 7. Ouvertüren Aus Der Freischutz 8. Ouvertüren Aus Oberon 9. Balletmu
