A: Believe it or not I own 3 portable electric grills. The bella for at work, a George Forman for at home and a small Proctor Silex that I use to use at work. All 3 have had very poor instructions on cooking. The best advice I can give is this: buy yourself a digital meat thermometer. Then put a couple of burgers on the grill, then after 5 minutes check the temp, if it is not 170 degrees when you stab the burger with a thermometer then give it 3 to 4 more minutes then stab it again. When the internal temp of your burger is 170 degrees it's done. Then record or remember the time it took. It won't change. I dont eat beef otherwise I could give you more of a precise time. I use my grill for pork chops and pork steaks. My bella grill takes 10 minutes exactly for chops and pork steaks unless they are thick cut. Then thick cut take 15 minutes. Country style ribs are about 20 minutes. This grill is 1200 watts. My cooking times with pork never wavers. But you need the thermometer to get you times down. Do yourself a favor and buy the meat thermometer, most people over cook meat to the point where it's dried out like shoe leather. Using a meat thermometer consistantly, keeps your meat from turning into something only half starved bear would want to eat.
Q: is steak good cooked on this grill?
A: Yes it has floating top hinges on the top plate so it adjusts to most sizes of steaks you may have bought. The down size is one temperature cooking only so you have to check the steak often to see how well you like it cooked.
Q: Does this have a timer and on/off button?

Q: How come the sale price is so much cheaper on deal of the day than the regular retail price?
A: Idk. But the sale price (and even if I had paid more) is definitely worth it. Deal of the day items generally have products much cheaper though (and it's not because the items are poor quality that they want to rid their inventory of).
Q: are the grates dishwasher safe?
A: yes they are easily removed for cleaning in a dishwasher or by hand
A: I'm sure this does not have auto shut off. That would defeat maintaing proper cooking temperature.
