It gets dark before I come home in winter. Got this to have lamp turn on automatically so home doesn't seem empty. It works fine for my purposes. I'm satisfied with this purchase. Things to consider: manual dial means imprecise on/off times. Digital timer would work better for auto turning on coffee pot/rice cooker at specific times. It does making a noticeable grinding sound after a few uses. It's quiet enough not to be a bother in living room; would not use in bedroom.

for old school people without smart houses these work great for lamps, plant lights, Christmas lights and easy to use with an additional outlet so you don't lose an outlet in the process
