I’m absolutely loving my Boox! I actually bought the Kindle Colorsoft and Bigme B7 Color to compare all three, but in the end, I returned the others. Here’s my breakdown of the pros and cons: ⸻ Kindle Colorsoft Pros: • Excellent battery life — the longest of the three. • Color e-ink display looks great for comics and magazines. Cons: • Locked into the Kindle ecosystem — no access to Libby, Hoopla, or Kobo. ⸻ Bigme B7 Color Pros: • Runs on Android, so I could install all my favorite reading apps in one place. • Best color e-ink quality out of all three devices. • Physical page-turn buttons feel great. • Comes with both a pen and a case. Cons: • Battery life was the worst of the group. • Limited accessory options — hard to find good cases or add-ons. ⸻ Boox Pros: • Also runs on Android, so all reading apps (Libby, Kobo, Kindle, etc.) work perfectly. • Mid-range battery life, but the auto power-off after an hour of inactivity is a great touch. • Lots of accessories available — including clear cases and charging charms, just like the Kindle. • Physical buttons for page turns are satisfying to use. Cons: • Most noticeable ghosting of the three, but you can assign a gesture to refresh the screen instantly — so it’s a minor issue at best.

I really do love this e-reader, so that’s probably why I rated it 5, even though with my review it should be 4. The design makes it feel luxury and light weight. It’s lighter than my phone is in my hand. The buttons are great and amazing with manga and page turning. The flush screen makes annotating and the gestures so much easier than a sunken screen. However, trying to switch cases out has caused the screen to lift from the device. The BOOX software, while better than most, does not seamlessly sync with my Palma 2 Pro. The annotating only working well on the native reader took some getting used to, as I bought this to read on other apps that my kobo won’t allow. Being able to read manhwa and manga online alone is what makes this a really good purchase. After transferring files over to the native reader, the annotating is fun— though the connectivity of the stylus to the screen can be patchy. Accessories aren’t really widely available if you like to decorate or customize your e-reader. I tried to put a wallpaper on the Home Screen, but it seems like the Boox software does not allow that with the Go Color 2. And adding launchers to do this was complicated, and still did not work. I find myself reaching for my Palma 2 Pro more often, rather than just on the go. But the manga usage, and the wide screen saves the day. I love the fact that this has speakers as well.

I have used Boox devices for several years now, and am glad they came out with this 7” e-reader that is reminiscent of Kindle’s Oasis line. It shares several design ideas such as the large grip area with page/volume buttons, and the 7” display. Despite those similarities, the Go 7 Gen 2 has several advantages compared to Kindle’s in general. It is also the smaller sibling to the Boox Air C design, but again, more compact and easier to travel with. This is a “tablet” running full Android, but just happens to use the Kaleido 3 color e-ink screen. This is very similar screen that the Kindle Colorsoft uses. The screen resolution is 1680x1264 (300ppi) for black and white, and 840x632 (150ppi) for color. The colors is what sold me to this device as I do have a large amount of comics that I want to read without straining my eyes on a LCD screen. Compared to the Kindle, I think the quality of the Colorsoft is superior. But why I go with the Boox Go Gen 2 is the Android operating system. I am able to download my other reading apps (B&N, Google Books, and Kindle) all in one device. As my Oasis was one of my favorite devices until it stopped working, having this form size and easy to hold in one hand, was just the natural direction for me to go with. Reading is a great experience. There are moments of ghosting that occurs, but you can refresh the screen with ease. It’s easy to hold in one hand and the back textured feel makes it less slippery. For those new to Boox, it is a learning curve on how to operate. But I will say that my Colorsoft is a better reading experience. I just don’t like the limitations Amazon places on you. Writing is one of the major downsizes of this device. I did not purchase the official Boox one, but had a USI 2.0 Lite pen made for the Google Pixel Tablet by Penoval that works on it. There is a lag that occurs and writing is not a good experience on it, a far cry compared to the Note devices by Boox. It does function and if you want to write down a quick note, you can survive with that lag. The other issue I have is the overall brightness of the device. One of the limitations with Kaleido 3 is a darkened screen. So placing the brightness up will give you that ability to read better in well lit places, but at the expense of battery life. I read a lot and I find myself charging about once a week. That is a limitation with Kaleido 3. Overall, I am very happy with this device and is my daily go-to e-reader.

There's a good amount of versatility in comparison to the Kindle. This can browse the internet, install apps on Google Play, and can even play music. I'd say it's a jack of all trades and a master of none. In any case, if you wish to read PDFs, Kindle books, or otherwise - it's a solid option. The only issue I have is I can't connect to the hotspot on my phone, not the worst, but this means I'll usually download before I go out.

The device fits my hand pretty well (unlike the much bigger remarkable 2). Also it can be read in the dark thanks to the backlight. The color is a bit washed out, but it seems common for all color e-ink displays.

nice e-reader. unless color is absolutely necessary, would advise the black and white version as the black and white version has better contrast. being an Android device and having access to the Google app store puts this device miles ahead of competitors from other companies without that feature
