The evolution of wireless speakers continues with the Bose SoundTouch 10x2 wi-fi speakers. This is not an earth-shattering breakthrough, rather one more option to go alongside Sonos. The Bose SoundTouch can receive bluetooth or aux (3.5mm) audio in addition to the many online services we're already using with Sonos. The convenience of the SoundTouch is the ability to add that local source easily. With Sonos, the AMP, not an inexpensive purchase, is required for adding local sources such as tablet, phone, internet radio, turntable, etc. The Bose SoundTouch is a lower-priced alternative that works well. The app is not great, but functional. One of the speakers likes to disconnect itself from the app while not in use, requiring a reboot from the app. With the app the speakers can be set as a stereo pair or as monaural distribution across distances (far better than bluetooth alone). We use these for background music distribution in our office. We use the service http://brandimusic.com - Enjoy!

We've had the speakers for almost a year now and we're happy with the sound quality and sleek look of the speakers. The only con to them is the app, which you'll need to download & install on your device if you want to play wireless. If I close the app without turning the music off first, the music will keep playing. Or sometimes the app crashes but the music keeps playing. Also, know that the only way to connect Spotify to these speakers is if you're a Spotify Premium member. If you only have the free membership, you won't be able to connect your Spotify account. Bummer.

Now that Bose has updated the software app, these things are much more stable network wise. I love being able to have these throughout my home and plan to purchase at least 4 more ST10's. I would recommend highly that Bose releases an updated Free Space 51 to include self contained 18 hour Lithium power, wifi and bluetooth capability, Sound Touch capability, ability to be plugged in to AC power, USB connectivity for smart phones and iPODs, IPX7, powder coated aluminum, rubber buttons on top of unit like the other Sound Touch units, RF remote control that floats and is IPX8 rated, sound level for an open area up to 50 x 50 square feet.
