Q: What is the difference between the MFC 5800 and 5900?
A: The two machines are very similar and based on the same duplex, 42ppm print engine. The 5900 add two sided scanning, in which both sides of the paper are read at once. The other difference is that the 5900 has the ability to be used as a fax machine, and you can scan and fax pretty large documents, such as for example legal or mortgage papers. Let me just say that the 5900 is definitely the way to go if you are considering converting to a paperless office. A high speed, duplex scanner can go a long way to digitizing stacks of papers, and, unlike many other printers, the Brother will do 400-600 dpi. If you don't do a lot of scanning, you could consider one of the lower models as well. The 5800 and the 5900 both have a legal sized glass platen for hand placing documents, the lower models do not. Both the 5800 and the 5900 can take the oversize, 8,000 page toner cartridge. The higher models print faster, but 42ppm is plenty fast enough and the really fast printers are more likely to develop timing issues in the paper path.
Q: Does this printer come with a cable to connect it to my computer? I won't be using wireless.
A: A USB cable is not included with the purchase of the Brother MFC-L5900DW.
Q: What is the difference between this printer and the Brother MFC-L5800DW?
A: Both MFC-L5800DW and MFC-L5900DW are designed the same. However, The MFC-L5900DW is a newer model and includes duplex scanning and faxing with more standard memory (512). Which the MFC-L5800DW did not include.
A: The flat bed size for this MFC machine is Legal size (8 1/2x14").
Q: Will this printer print 11x17
A: The MFC-L5900DW will not print 11 x 17 paper.
A: You can feed a stack of envelopes from the front. I don't think there is a way to feed from the back.

A: The MFC-L5900DW can store multiple email addresses.
