Great spinoff of Crypt of the Necrodancer with a Zelda twist. Not only is the gameplay fantastic, but the remixes of classic Zelda tunes are great. If you liked Crypt of the Necrodancer, definitely give it a go; same if you liked Zelda. For those who are unaware, this game is a rhythm game wherein you move around a screen in time with the music. By doing this you position yourself around enemies and attack them as well as get new equipment and explore areas. The gameplay is extremely fun and engaging and I enjoyed it immensely. That being said, this game is a rogue-lite, meaning no checkpoints and you start from the beginning if you die. It's also fairly challenging unlike most Zeldas (except Breath of the Wild) so don't expect a breeze through. The game is no pushover and might turn off some people looking for a more casual rhythm or Zelda game. Strong recommendation.

Solid game with a very interesting mechanic to it. Very unique and satisfying to play. Lots of fun to play local couch co-op with as well. The music is great. Kind of wish there was more of a sense of purpose in the game though. They sort of just let you free once the tutorial level is done and then you're kind of on your own to figure out the world and the boss stages and finding everything. Theres not a super deep story element to this game so its mostly just riding on the gameplay mechanic of it to carry. All in all, great game if you can get it on sale and a fun addition to the Switch collection for sure. Remixed Zelda songs makes for a great time.

Whilst there are not many Zelda spin-offs, the best of the bunch before this was 'Link's Crossbow Training', which says quite a lot. Made by the same team behind Crypt of the NecroDancer and uses many of the same mechanics. It's a roguelike, which plays top-down where you move to the beat of the music. This game is very, very tough. Watching a video of someone playing does not do it justice, once you attempt to do so yourself it's much harder than it looks. You can play with either Link or Zelda, each having their own different powers. And the more you play, and discover, the more you'll feel yourself progress and 'get stronger' as you would in a typical Zelda game. The music is very 'zelda-like' with the same composer from 'The Binding of Issac' and 'Super Meat Boy' with actual Zelda songs remixed into his style. The art is reminiscent of 'A Link to the Past' so it's very nostalgic if you're from that gaming-era. I could go on and on, but to summarize: Zelda spin-off, top-down roguelike, crushingly difficult, amazing soundtrack, and loads of fun due to map randomization. It's so good it could be confused as an in-house Nintendo developed game.

Do you like the Legend of Zelda series and it’s soundtrack? Do you like dance-style music? Do you like rhythm-based games? If you answered yes to one of the above, you might like this game. If you answered yes to two of the above, you will will most likely enjoy this game. If you answered yes to all 3, don’t even hesitate. This is a really fun spin on the 2D/16-bit era and style of Zelda games, and it plays perfectly with the Crypt of the Necrodancer gameplay. (Another game I’d highly recommend; just swap out Legend of Zelda for roguelikes/roguelites.) It’s also the toughest Zelda in a long time, so be aware that there is actually a bit of a learning curve starting out. You’ll need to learn enemy movement patterns and get used to moving with the beat of the music. Once it clicks you won’t want to stop. My only complaint is that there’s no option to just listen to the soundtrack when you start the game. I’m hoping you can unlock that though.

Strong gameplay with enormous replay value--- the thing you always hear is that it's a rhythm game, but not that it's still got the tried-and-true blueprint of a true Zelda title, which, as far as I'm concerned, this game is. Also I should mention that the soundtrack is a blast--- the remixes are done tastefully and span the entirety of the series. The maps also shift around with every play-through, which is something that should be a regular addition to every old school Zelda game I think, or it works really well, is what I mean to say. Seriously, if you enjoy rhythm type games (or for that matter games like Chocobo Dungeon or Azure Dreams) and also love the Zelda series, you only do yourself a disservice not giving this game a shot. I can't stress enough how polished and enjoyable this game is. A true gem, and I'm so glad I decided to give it a shot.

I feel like this type of game is a love it or hate it type. The gameplay is so unique that you have to try it first to see if it clicks with you. Luckily there is a demo of this game on the eshop. The gameplay is sort of rythym based (though you can turn the rythym movement off) in which you move to the beat of the music literally. You move around on a grid and attack enemies. The remixed Zelda music is AWESOME and the cool thing is that the game randomly generates your map when you start so no two playthroughs will be exactly the same. It took a while to get used to this game but once I got the hang of it I couldnt put it down.

I had never heard of this game before, but glad I purchased it. Such a cute game and love the way the graphics look. Reminds me of when I’d played games on my gameboy color

A Zelda rhythm game seems like a natural fit for the series. Glad it exists.

I'll be totally honest, but I am terrible at this game. It's not the game's fault, I just can't keep the beat. The game is outstanding and for those that aren't very good like myself there is a mode you can play without keeping to the beat. The music alone is worth the purchase.

Amazing game with lots of replayability. Enjoy exploring this procedurally generated version of Hyrule to the beat of the amazing soundtrack. Stab, slash, and dig through familiar areas and enemies. An amazing addition to the Zelda franchise.

One of the best indie crossovers I have ever played period, Zelda music and a roguelike? Multiple characters and a villian that isn't Ganon for once???

I love rhythm games and this one combines them with Zelda! A lot of fun to be had here. It can be intimidating at first, but once you get a handle on the timing it puts you in a trance like state. So much fun. Buy it.

At first glance, this looks like a fairly simple game, but the fact that the temples keep changing and the map itself seems to be unique for every player makes it a challenge. The music is also catchy!

This game brings me back to the SNES days with authentic graphics and music. It's not as full-featured as a new 3D Zelda but it's one of the best spin-offs in the series' storied history.
