There are a lot of good movies made in 2018 and this is one of them. Melissa McCarthy, out of her usual zany comedic comfort zone and the great, Richard E. Grant star in “Can You Ever Forgive Me?” The story of a down on her luck NYT best selling author who resorts to forging letters of famous people and selling them to collectors. This is a dramatic role for McCarthy and she nails it. One of the best movies of the year. I saw it in the theater and had to have the DVD because I guessed there would be good extras. I was correct. The deleted scenes as extras on the DVD are worth watching. I wish there were more out takes as you can guess hilarity on set must have ensued with the likes of McCarthy and her costar Richard E. Grant who is always worth the price of a movie ticket. I confess I went to see the film because of him. Grant is a brilliant actor and he brings so much to his role as her partner in crime. This is a brilliant and satisfying film especially good for film lovers. Excellent script and acting performance. Thumbs up.

Melissa McCarthy has certainly proven herself as one of the funniest women on the planet. However, she takes a dramatic turn here in a true story about a not so nice lady. Her acting is so convincing here that lovable Melissa actually makes us not love her character! The actual comic relief in this movie comes from Richard E. Grant, an unknown actor to me prior, but an absolute breath of fresh air! Deserved Oscar nominations went to both McCarthy and Grant!!

This is a quiet movie about a faltering writer just trying to get by and finds she has to forge letters to do that. McCarthy plays a dramatic role without being overly dramatic and just a little bit funny and more than a little bit sad. Given that it's a crime movie, nothing really big happens, but you'll find yourself completely immersed in and sympathetic to MCarthy's not so moral character.

At first i was skeptical about this movie.Until my daughter explained to me that its based on a true story.Then when i seen the movie,i was overwhelmed by the sincerity of the complex situation.Its a home run movie,a must see.

It was good, but it was different in the way she was not comedic. I like her in comedies better.
