Gets the job done and has LAN
I’ve had two other Canon Pixma printers: the MX860 and MX922. These are both heavy, very substantial and sturdy printers. I purchased the TR8620 because I am away for an extended amount of time at a relative’s home and there are no working printers available. This printer will be brought home eventually and set up for my husband to use. I think he will like it because the flip control panel is illuminated. It has touchscreen controls for everything you want to do and with his poor eyesight this will be perfect. The paper tray is tucked under the flip touchscreen panel and it is not as easy to get to as with my prior models. The output extender is a little difficult to figure out and requires you gently pull the touchscreen panel up a bit to extend. The entire printer does not feel as sturdy as my older models. It has a top load automatic paper feeder as well as an additional paper cassette at the back for loading a different type or size of paper. That means it can handle copying and printing legal size paper. It can do Duplex -double sided- printing. The big reason I bought another Canon printer was I know how easy it is to change the cartridges and that there are separate cartridges for each color. And my other two Canons are still working well after many years. Something I did not realize was a feature of this printer which is FABULOUS is it can create its own LAN. The temporary home where I am has no internet and no WiFi but I can connect my iPhone and iPad wirelessly to this printer. I downloaded the Canon app for this connection because I, at least, could not connect except by using the app. That is not to say the app is mandatory - it just was for my limited knowledge. I would buy this printer again. I did not give five stars because of the lighter weight construction since that may indicate easier breaking of parts like the touchscreen or paper tray. In a month or so when I have more experience with this printer I may post additions to this review. I got it on sale for $199.

Fantastic starter printer
Its a great printer, it prints fast and the quality of the pictures is superb. It doesnt take up a lot of space and doesnt make a lot of sound, it even has a "quiet mode" which is new to me. My only complication with it, is that the piece with the printing screen has to be up in order to print. Not really a big issue or anything, I just forget to open it half the time haha

Set up in 15 minutes, no stress, and love it!
I bought this Canon Pixma TR8620 today to replace my Canon Pixma MX922. I am 61 and haven’t set things up very many times. This took me about 15 minutes from taking the tape off the top of the box (the hardest part) to printing and scanning. We’re talking all set up, my phone and desktop wirelessly. Scanning to my desktop, was much easier than my last one, because I could find what I scanned once it was on there, it actually showed where it was. This does everything my old printer did except it’s a little smaller and a little lighter, nice. I’m sorry, but if you can’t set this up maybe you don’t have a cell phone or internet! It comes with paper instructions that made me feel better, an app on my phone with videos (so easy) and a web site to set up my desktop, seriously if you can type in TR8620 you can set this up so fast! And if the paper is shooting on the floor pull the paper catcher out! I don’t understand some of these reviews, I’m glad I listened to the majority! Yes the new printers seem a little less solid, but they are lighter and smaller. Unless you are letting your small children play with your printer I don’t see any problem. I’m so happy this printer replacement was such a joy, I hate dealing with this stuff. Just buy it, you’ll love it! Especially because it will be working in no time.
