Couldn't resist as a Best Buy Deal of the day, only regret was that I should have bought 2 more. Super easy to install, the magnetic base makes it a snap to install directly under your garage door opener. Camera and sound quality is good. Receiving more Amazon deliveries and this camera makes it ideal to receive my shipments in my garage safely from the driver.

Personal home security cameras are a dime a dozen nowadays. If anyone ever asks me which are the best ones, I would say it mostly depends on what equipment/services you are already invested in. If you don’t already have a smart garage opener (which I highly recommend) then this camera isn’t really for you - because while it would conceivably work, you might lose out on some of the features. But the one exception to a recommendation I might give is the MyQ line of products. While I much prefer seeing all my security video feeds in one app (I mostly use Arlo - and yes, you can connect them and my Nest cameras to Google Home for example, but they don’t always reliably work within the app) I’d make an exception for this camera which ties into the opening and closing of your garage door. The camera itself is basic. It has 1080p resolution, and offers a wide field of view. It has night vision and a two way microphone (the latter can be disabled within the app). It detects motion and audio. It’s not intended for outdoor use, so you’ll want to keep it inside your garage. It’s powered by micro-USB which seems outdated, but it isn’t really an issue. Installation is pretty straightforward. You can attach it to anything metal using the magnets, or you can attach the magnet plate to drywall using a single screw and anchor (there’s a single hole in the middle of the plate). The magnets are pretty strong, so there’s no worry about it falling off. Obviously you can hang it on the wall, or on the ceiling (so long as you flip the orientation of the camera). The real issue with the installation, to me, was the length of the power cord. Like I said, the power cord is micro-USB and it’s hardwired into the brick. I didn’t measure the length of the cord, but it seems really short and might pose a problem depending on where you want to place it and the nearest power outlet. Most people might want to hang it on the ceiling where presumably you could plug it into the same outlet as the garage door opener. If that was the case, then the short power cord might not be a problem. Should you want to mount it somewhere else in the garage, you will be limited in your options (again, depending on the placement of your power cables). At the end of the day, this is a minor problem as you can always purchase a longer micro-USB cable - but still, an annoying one. Setting up the camera and connecting it through the app was super simple. Once it was plugged in and I opened up the MyQ app (note, I already had it installed as I already have a smart garage door opener), I added a device and boom, it was right there. It connected within a minute or so, but then it had a firmware update. Luckily that didn’t take long. All-in-all, from installing it on my wall (I didn’t have an option to install it on my garage’s ceiling) and connecting it to my app, it took just a few minutes. But what separates this camera from others is its integration with your smart garage opener. After setting it up within the app you’ll be asked to link it to a garage opener. What this allows you to do is to see the live feed of the camera while being able to control the garage from the same screen. Within the app you’re able to find tune the motion detection, audio detection as well as tweaking your notifications. The latter is important - to me. The moment I had my camera up and running I was getting notifications constantly (my kids were outside playing int the garage/outside). It was more than annoying. There’s an option to mute notifications like this for 2 hours (like when you know someone will be working in the garage for a few hours and you don’t want to be inundated with notifications). But you can tweak when you’re notified, like when the camera detects ANY movement, or just when the garage is opened. You can also specifically disable notifications when the garage is closed - again, so as to not get notifications if someone is working within a closed garage. The paywall. The BIGGEST downside to this camera is that you have to pay for any storage. There’s no local storage, and no free cloud storage (outside a 30 day trial). It will cost you $99 a year ($9.99 a month) to have 30 day cloud storage and smart detection and the ability to download clips. In other words, unless you pay for the service you are effectively paying for a live feed camera. This is a huge drawback to me, and the reason I can only give this camera 3 stars. Most people are likely to already be paying for some home security, and adding another $10 subscription (don’t get me started on all things subscriptions) it just becomes too much. I think there should be some balance - maybe 7 day free cloud storage and downloads? I just don’t see the subscription as a good value proposition. Maybe for your specific use, paying an additional $10 a month for having some kind of peace of mind in your garage makes sense, but not for me. But I’m okay with using this as a live feed of my garage, especially knowing I can check it immediately whenever the garage door is opened.

Installation was quick. It connected to phone Bluetooth and was able to detect my home Wi-Fi in a few seconds using the MyQ app. I already had the MyQ garage control device and as soon I added the MQ smart garage camera, it allow me to link it to the smart garage control device on the MyQ app. With a quick software update it was up and running in under five minutes. It has a magnetic mounting base and also came with an magnetic strip option that can be screwed to the garage ceiling if needed. The camera itself is mounted on a swivel mount so you can adjust the view to get the best view. Video Quality and Field of View - The garage view for a 2 car garage is pretty good with the 130 wide angle view and 1080p resolution. Now I can monitor the motion in the garage with smart alerts and when my amazon packages get delivered inside my garage. The night vision is also pretty good with great image quality in low lights. Features - It has most of the smart camera features that you find in the outdoor or indoor smart cameras - people detection, video playback option, live video streaming, rich text notification, two-way communication, etc. but to avail most benefits you need to subscribe to their plan, else the notification will be bare minimal which I thought was good enough for my need. Overall, it’s a great add to my MyQ garage control system to monitor activities when the garage door opens and closes.

I've been testing the Chamberlain My-Q smart security camera for about a week. Overall this is a fantastic add-on accessory for my Chamberlain smart garage door opener. Installation was extremely simple. The camera seamlessly connected to my account using the My-Q app and it was able to securely stick to my garage door opener with its built-in magnet. It captures great video and sends push notifications with a thumbnail attached. The time from motion detection to push notification was very quick. I was made aware of the presence of someone in my garage well in advance of them leaving the property. Also it can display live video feeds and provides two way communication.  The only negatives with this camera are that I don't know how much local storage it has. It only captures up to 20 second clips and I don't know whether or not the videos will be available after the 30 day subscription trial period. With that said, while under the subscription period, it is a great smart garage accessory. 

I have really enjoyed this camera in my garage. It has a great, wide-angle picture and has such excellent motion capture that it even detects movement through my garage door windows when the garage is closed, day and night! I get the alerts without delay to my phone (this can be adjusted) and I have also noticed no issues with connectivity at all via WIFI! Something I noticed is that this particular camera is dual band, meaning it can be picked up on 2.4gHz or 5GHz wifi bands, which means you are always getting the best connection it is capable of. I also like the fact, as a rare change, that this camera is hardwired. It is really going to be used as a “set it and forget it” camera to monitor my garage when I am away from home etc. The image is really clear and the night vision is excellent. The two way audio is a bit of a gimmick though, as the max volume the camera can emit is so tinny and quiet that I think people more than 10 feet away would be hard pressed to even make out the words. The only thing I am really not happy about here is the lack of onboard local storage options. I would have loved to have installed a 128GB micro SD card for storage of recorded footage, but instead, it will only store on the cloud which means it is out of luck in the event of a internet outage or if I am unwilling to may for the Chamberlain subscription. All in all, this is a good camera that is really purpose built and convenient for garage installation and monitoring, but it has the quirks that people need to know about.

Not worth it. Never worked. Spent 2 hours trying to make it work and never picked up the signal from my router. I moved the camera inside, next to my router and still wouldn’t connect. I had it reset, uninstalled several times and no go. I contacted customer service and they offer no good help. This is a very simple set up that didn’t have to take more than 5 minutes. Anyway I sent it back!

Stay away from MyQ if you want to integrate with other smart devices/apps, the use of widgets, don’t like supporting companies that block functionality behind a paywall…. Also, the camera disconnects like crazy. It’s within 4 feet of the garage door sensor which has a strong connection, yet it keeps disconnecting.

This little guy is a decent companion to an existing myQ garage door opener setup, but the nice part is that the camera can also serve double duty explicitly as a garage-door security camera, or you can deploy several around the house for an indoor security camera network with traditional (i.e., non-garage-door-related) daylight and night vision imaging, motion and person detection, live streaming, and 2-way audio talk-back. However, unless you’re willing to pay a subscription fee for video storage and retention, a “complete” myQ video system featuring this particular camera really only gives you real-time monitoring capability and notifications after the 30-day trial is over. In terms of setup, you can be up and running in just a few minutes. The articulated (and magnetic) base comes with a 3M adhesive mount and drywall screw kit to stick the camera and aim it pretty much anywhere you want–dangling underneath your garage door opener, hanging down from the ceiling, sticking out from a wall or cabinet, or just sitting on a shelf. The only thing you’re limited by is the 6-foot length of the power cable. However, the power connection port is micro-USB so it’s likely you can gain some extra installation flexibility with your own USB adapter and longer cable. Using the myQ app on your phone, connect to the camera via BT and then connect it to your WiFi network (both 2.4 and 5Ghz networks); a multi-color LED on the front of the camera offers a number of status indicators during setup and operation (setup ready, successful BT connection, firmware updating, motion detection active, etc.). Once you’ve added the camera to your myQ account, you’re good to go. The myQ app gives you a number of configuration options that are almost entirely self-evident just by the name of the feature you’re adjusting–very user friendly for those of you who tend not to consult manuals very often! For example, you can select the sensitivity of motion detection, activate video recording (if you have an active subscription), enable smart person detection, set schedules for notifications based on movement, people detection only, door activity (open, closed, stopped, or Amazon Key activated), turn night vision on/off, and flip the orientation of the image (in case you have it mounted upside down. Audio adjustments let you disable the microphone and increase the volume of your voice during 2-way talk back. You can also set the location of your camera and specifically link it to your myQ garage door opener if you like so that it either captures garage access/events based on garage door activity, or just provides standard video surveillance of people/motion detection without providing extra notifications whenever your myQ garage door system is used. Once the camera is configured to your liking, it’s pretty well set-it-and-forget-it. You’ll get notified on your phone if garage-door-linked activities occur, or movement or a person is detected (I even got notified on my Apple Watch as well!). Through the app you can then start a live stream of the action, take a snapshot from the stream, and even carry on a 2-way conversation using the mic on your phone and the mic/speaker on the camera (to scare away a would-be lurker, tell your neighbor where to find the keys or tools, etc.). If you’ve linked the camera to your myQ garage door opener in the app, you can even control the garage door from the same screen so you can close the door behind someone after you see them walk out and finish taking care of whatever you let them in the garage to do. The field of view is wide enough to give you more than edge-to-edge across at least a 2-car garage; strong-lighting provides a colorful picture while the B&W night vision image can be clear enough to make out faces so long as there’s at least some light trickling in. It’s all very straightforward to install and operate, and there’s a good deal of functionality packed into this unassuming little package, but there are some caveats and limitations you should be aware of. Chief among them is that you can save and download surveillance videos/events only if you have a paid storage plan subscription; without it, you’re limited to whatever photos you take while the stream is active and you cannot record video clips to your phone in real-time. A simple microSD reader would have increased the value proposition of this camera tremendously. The myQ app also has a tendency to cut the live feed off if you switch between open apps or navigate away from the live feed page at all, even if you stay within the other pages of myQ app itself. The 2-way audio is also great and a useful feature, but the speaker in the camera itself is pretty anemic and someone would be hard pressed to hear you if they weren’t REALLY close to the camera already. Low-light performance is also just fair without the help of some additional lighting; a few more IR illuminators or even a simple onboard bright LED to cast some light on the scene might have improved performance in this capacity. Similarly, that same simple white LED could be used as a visual alarm/deterrent that could be activated at night or simply programmed to work on a schedule–or even just triggered at the same time as your activity notifications–so that your camera could do more than just monitor, it could provide a little visual discouragement to anyone thinking of encroaching on the areas monitored by the camera. Again, such a simple and relatively low-cost addition would have dramatically increased the “security value” offered by this smart security camera. These shortcomings aside, the myQ integration really is slick and the basic security features offered by this camera make it a nice addition to your home security setup, *especially* if you’re already invested in the myQ ecosystem. In my opinion, the biggest thing you have to figure into your decision is the need for, and therefore subsequent cost of, ongoing video storage. If you don’t need/want anything beyond real-time video monitoring, the myQ Smart Garage Security Camera is a one-time good investment at a reasonable price that extends the functionality of your garage door automation into the security and monitoring realms. If not, you have to figure the additional cost of the basic plan for 7-day event/video storage at $3.99/mo or $39.99/yr for just one camera; or 30-day storage for $9.99/mo or $99.99/yr for multiple cameras (as of this review) into the purchase price.

I recently upgraded my 30-year-old garage door opener to a fancy new Chamberlain myQ model with smart features. As part of this upgrade, I also installed the myQ video keypad and this garage camera. The garage camera is very easy to set up and pair with your garage door opener through the myQ app, but it's rather basic and has quite a few quirks compared to more advanced, full-featured smart home cameras. That is, unless you're willing to pay for the myQ subscription. === PROS === - Very easy to set up. Before mounting the camera, you'll want to first pair it through the myQ app. If your garage door opener has a metal bottom, the camera will attach magnetically. Otherwise, you can use the included adhesive mount to place the camera anywhere in your garage. The excess cable from the power adapter neatly wraps around the base of the camera. - Unlike some other camera, the myQ garage camera supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. This is great since the 5 GHz band in my house tends to be more reliable than the 2.4 GHz band. - Video quality is quite good for such a small camera. It supports 1080p video and has a wide, 130-degree view. In my case, I mounted the camera to my garage door opener in the center of the garage, and I get a full view of my garage door and driveway. - The camera's neck is highly adjustable, allowing you to rotate the camera to practically any angle. === CONS === - I've had some problems with the camera refusing to exit "night vision mode." My garage is pretty bright during the day, but unless I turn on the overhead ceiling lights, the camera stays in night vision mode, which is black and white. - If you don't pay for a myQ subscription, this camera is of very limited use. Without a subscription, all you can do is view a live stream from the camera. If you want video recordings, people detection, or other advanced features, you'll need to pay for yet another smart home subscription. === OVERALL === If you're simply looking for a quick and simple way to check in on your garage at random moments, then this could be a good option. However, if you want more full-fledged smart home features and video recording, you'll have to spring for the myQ subscription. Without the subscription, you'll have to constantly monitor the myQ app and check in on live video streams to get the most of this camera. It's a shame that the camera isn't more useful without a subscription, since it's so easy to set up and use. Luckily, it's a relatively inexpensive addition to your garage door opener, so it's certainly worth considering if you have a smart myQ garage door opener.

If you have a myQ system, this little camera is a great addition. It’s exactly as you’d expect, a well designed camera that can be mounted to a garage door opener for a better view of people entering or exiting your garage doors. While largely very similar to any other interior camera, it pairs within the myQ ecosystem, allowing for direct notifications with video when someone enters or exits, as well as a paired view within the app when associated with a given garage door opener. Press the button on the lower part of the screen and watch as the door opens or closes in real time. Video: Video is plenty clear to see what’s happening in the garage, with night vision working well. You’ll have no doubt when you’ve left your garage door open, with video confirmation beyond the normal myQ sensing. Mounting: While it comes with an adhesive pad, its base is already magnetic, making it perfect for mounting to the underside of the garage door opener, as intended. Installation in this manner was super easy - simply pop into place via the magnets and plug into the same outlet in the ceiling as the garage door opener itself. At least in our case, we had not issue with tying up extra cabling. It stays out of the way and the camera is perfectly located. It looks nice and build quality is better than other inexpensive offerings. App Use: The app will encourage you to try a subscription to video recordings, but it will serve as a live camera without a subscription. The app works fine, showing recent stills of the video feed on its home screen. Tap and you’ll activate a live view of that camera. For the price, this works well for the intended use. In short, this camera seems best suited for gaining the straight-out view of a garage door, which will show you different things than what their exterior video keypad will - each serves a different purpose, and for its purpose, it succeeds.

I have been using the MyQ garage control retrofit for a few years now and love the ability to control my older garage door opener with an app. I can remotely close/open the door and get push notifications but was never able to actually “see” what’s happening in my garage. This camera is a great addition to your MyQ system. I can now visually see the status of the garage door. But comes with a cost of a subscription. Setup was a breeze through the app and was running within 10 minutes of taking it out of the box with firmware updates. The magnetic mount allows me to directly place it on the actual garage door opener. Your garage door opener should have an outlet above it so powering the camera was also an easy task. I was worried at first that the vibration of the garage door opener would throw off my camera angle adjustments but nothing out of whack yet. Yes, another subscription cost added if you want to unlock all the features. There is a price tier system ranging from $3.99 per month to $9.99 per month depending on the number of devices you want to cover. The subscription essentially gets you the video recordings and history. There is a free version that will only push a “motion” alert but you will not be able to review the video that caused the alert. You can however view live video. Subscription also gets you their smart “people” detection so you will only be alerted to the presence of people instead of motions, like a car or tree sway. At the end of the day, the camera is pretty much useless without saved recordings. Yes, you can drop in and see live video with the free version but not being able to see recordings tied with garage door activity is a big letdown. In summary, the camera quality is great. Night vision is powered by 1 IR light. Which is fine for the typical distance of a garage door motor mounting location but mounting it further from the door may pose night viewing issues. The green light doesn’t turn off so you will need to add tape over it if you want a more incognito camera. The 2-way communication is very quiet as the in-camera speaker is tiny. Would I recommend this camera? Yes and no. Yes, if you don’t mind the subscription cost. No if you feel like MyQ should have done what Wyze does with their cameras by giving you an option to add your own micro-SD card so you can save your own videos at no additional subscription costs. I give the actual camera 5 stars but down graded to 3 stars because of the money grab subscription costs.

The Chamberlain – myQ Smart Garage Security Camera is a fantastic camera at a great price. Pros: • Unboxing – Everything comes packed securely in a small box and is nicely organized. • Setup – Using the myQ app, setup was straightforward. I simply followed the in-app instructions and had the camera up and running in about 5-10 minutes. It did require an update prior to usage, but this only took a few minutes. These cameras have a built in dual 2.4 GHz/5Ghz band making connecting to Wi-Fi a breeze unlike a lot of other products that simply run 2.4 GHz. The dual band also allows for a stronger signal with fewer dropouts. I have not had any issues with connectivity after adding it to myQ account. The camera base is magnetic allowing it to connect directly to the garage door opener. If you have an all plastic garage door opener shell it does come with mounting tape. • Resolution – The camera is full HD (1080) resolution which is perfectly fine for a garage security camera. I don’t know whether it is necessary to have a 2k or 4k camera for this purpose and if it was offered in the future, I would expect it would be quite a bit more expensive and use a lot more bandwidth. Using this camera even in low light has been flawless. I have no issue making out people or objects; however, it would likely not pick up a license plate clearly in my driveway. The camera has a 130-degree wide angle view which covers most of the garage. Cons: • Cloud-storage – In order to keep any online storage, you need to subscribe to cloud storage. While it is not overly expensive, especially if you wait for a coupon, it is still another cost that must be incurred. It would be nice if 7-day storage was included at no additional cost.

I have had the LiftMaster MQ Retrofit Package on a standard garage opener (without MyQ) for over 6 years, and I have been extremely satisfied with its performance and the convenience of opening the garage on a mobile device. Now, with this new MyQ smart garage security camera that easily connects to the MyQ app, I can view my garage when the garage door is opening or closing (even when closed) from essentially anywhere. Now I can see who opened the garage and which car is in the garage. It has a cool feature with two-way audio and motion detection to speak and hear someone inside the garage. Now I can be more confident that the things in my garage are more secure. Setup is also easy: (1) enable Bluetooth and location services; (2) open or download the MyQ app; (3) follow the app wizard or guide to set the camera to your smartphone; (4) update the firmware if required; and (5) mount the camera. Note that for the camera to work/ connect, there must be a strong Wi-Fi signal where it will be installed.  So, if there is no Wi-Fi signal in your garage, this camera will not function properly. Mounting is also extremely easy if you use the magnetic base, which can just be attached to the metal case of the garage opener motor. You can also mount the camera to a wall or other object with the included self-adhesive mounting plate.  The angle of view of the camera is great; I can see more of my driveway when the door is open. In low light, the camera does well with images shown in black and white. To conclude, this is another great device to add to the MyQ system to secure your garage.

After 2 years having Amazon key deliveries my wife decided we needed the myQ camera. Having a Mya garage door opener already the installation was a breeze. Placement was a little tricky as the newer gen openers don’t have metal in the body portion. Luckily we have a deep upright freezer and metal wall shelving I could use for placement. We decided to go with the 7 day cloud storage option for now but may cancel it next year if we find we don’t really use the storage. Picture quality is pretty darn good for this camera and the fov covers the space needed.

Tl;dr While the convenience of having a single app to use to open the garage for friends & neighbors, there are better camera systems I would use with the MyQ opener. It’s worth the extra hassle to get a product that works well for its intended purpose. Full Review: MyQ accessories help to control your garage. This camera expands on other MyQ accessories to allow you to see what’s going on when you’re remotely controlling your garage door (or someone else is). The best thing about the camera is accessing it from the same app where the door is controlled from. It means I can understand the full situation before opening (or closing) the door through the app. It’s important to note that the camera DOES NOT have the ability to open/close the door directly. I had separately purchased a MyQ garage door controller. Compared to other wireless cameras I’ve used, the installation and set up for this camera was ridiculously easy. Since I already had the app, I had to add a device, enter my wifi info, and it connected right away! I did a quick firmware update and was on my way. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the experience. The camera stays in “night vision” mode unless it has bright sunshine illuminating the scene. Even if the garage light is on, the image remains black and white. I’ve used cameras from Blink, Euffy. & Wyse. The MyQ is the only camera which requires such high light levels before changing to ‘standard’ mode. While the night mode is fairly clear, it’s harder to distinguish faces when they’re all shades of gray. This negates much of it’s value as a security camera, other than for people you know. Mounting is equally frustrating. It has a magnetic base which makes it easy to attach to a metal garage door opener housing. If you don’t have a metal housing, it comes with a metal ring and adhesive to attach it to the opener’s housing. This is great as long as you want to mount it to the garage opener. In my case, I wanted to get a larger view of the garage from a corner, due to where I had a free outlet. The mounting bracket has limited movement axes which made it nearly impossible to get the view I wanted from the side. It was a very frustrating experience. My last issue is the free vs paid level of services. Unlike Wyse and Euffy, there is no SD card slot. This means no local recording. While you can watch a live stream from the camera, all recording options require a subscription. The subscription rate is not high (1.99 / month / camera), it adds up over time. This is especially true if you have more than one camera.

Very easy to set up. I have minimal space between my car and the garage door opener and yet it fit easily. It installs by magnetically sticking to the door opener. The video is clear and I can see my garage from anywhere with my smartphone.

I was really excited to get my hands on this. I have a Liftmaster three car garage system with two doors and have been really happy with the whole thing. I have been utilizing the MyQ App for almost three years and really love the app. I recently got my hands on this camera along with the MyQ Video keypad. I have about 8 cameras around my home inside and outside and was excited to add another one that integrated with my garage door and MyQ app ecosphere since I really love the MyQ App. It’s awesome. Got the camera…and am disappointed. For one it’s wired!! Hello, it’s 2023!!! I don’t like or want wires and if you’re gonna have wires the video should be outstanding and it’s just not. No HDR and in a darker garage that’s light enough for color but not dark enough for night mode, the images are just minimal. I do like that the base is magnetic which is pretty cool. It really feels like an entry level first gen product. I really wish there was a higher end version that was wireless and had HDR. Despite being disappointed with the camera, if you looking for an entry level camera to keep a quick eye on things.. this might be for you. If you really want a versatile, movable and high quality video. I’d say there are better options.
