Charles Mingus - Mingus - VINYL LP

CHARLES MINGUS / MINGUS At the time of this recording, Mingus had been working regularly with the piano-less quartet of Eric Dolphy, Ted Curson and Dannie Richmond. The same group featured on the 1960 Candid , Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus. The Mingus album, also recorded that year, features one track, InchStormy Weather,Inch recorded with that same quartet, and two tracks recorded with a larger group featuring piano and additional horns. Of note, InchMDM (Monk Duke & Me)Inch consumes the majority of this album. The piece consists of three intertwining themes - Duke Ellington's InchMain StemInch, Thelonious Monk's InchStraight, No ChaserInch, and Mingus' InchFifty First Street Blues.Inch Released in 1961, and recorded in the fall of 1960 by Candid A&R and Producer Nate Hentoff at the Nola Penthouse Sound Studios. The LP includes extraordinary liner notes written by Hentoff, giving a context and insight that adds to the experience of hearing these magnificent performances. Album Tracks 1. MDM 1. Stormy Weather 2. Lock 'Em Up

Charles Mingus - East Coasting - VINYL LP

Vinyl LP pressing. Reissue, originally recorded and released in 1957. One of Charles Mingus's lesser-known sessions. Here the master was at the head of an awesome band including some of his regular sidemen. Features Jimmy Knepper (trombone), Shafi Hadi (alto saxophone, tenor saxophone), and Dannie Richmond (drums), along with nothing but Bill Evans on piano. This is dense, lyrical, and very stimulating music deeply rooted in the bop tradition yet with an open ear to other sound territories. Album Tracks 1. Memories of You 2. East Coasting 3. West Coast Ghost 4. Celia 5. Conversation 6. Fifty-First Street Blues

Charles Mingus - Presents Charles Mingus - Remastered - VINYL LP

180gm Tip-on Jacket Remastered by Bernie Grundman. The combo here, referred to by Mingus as The Jazz Workshop, had been in residence at the Showplace on W. 4th St. In Greenwich Village for nearly a year when they entered the studio to record what became the album Charels Mingus Presents Charles Mingus in October of 1961. To recreate this atmosphere, Mingus introduces the songs as if he were speaking to the audience, giving off the illusion of a live album. The charade paid off. The LP includes extraordinary liner notes written by Hentoff himself, giving a context and insight that adds to the experience of hearing these magnificent performances. Album Tracks 1. Folk Forms 2. Original Faubus Fables 3. What Love 4. All the Things You Could Be By Now If Sigmund Freud's Wife Was Your Mother
